  1. thank you,

I have been considering building dual driver horn loaded speakers.

    2 1 or 2 inch tweeters

    2 5 inch midranges

    2 15 inch woofers

this ofcorse would require..... more money than I have... but good or bad idea?

What kind of drier would you reccomend for midrange? I noticed you werent to fond of cone drivers.

  2. I am undertaking a new project. And that is building my own horns.

So, far I have built 1 prototype at my dads. It was designed for this crappy speaker from a 10$ boom box that i took apart, just to see if it would actualy amplify the sound....... it did Smile.gif

The one I built I built it .... for a mid range.

the end where the speaker goes, is 3 inchs by 3 inches. The big opening on the other side, measures 31 inches across, 11.5 inches tall. With all those sides rounded out.

Now that I know it will work, I would like to make another one, well 3 actualy, 2 with the same design, and one for the subwoofer.

I will still be using the same crappy materials though, because its free.

The sides are made out of ... what were 2 by 12's, and the top and bottom were made out of crappy plywood.

Here is what I was considering using *and where questions come in:

For Midrange: a 4-5 inch driver Is this a good size, or should I go smaller? And could you recomend some good speakers that arnt real expensive?

For Subwoofer: a 10-15 inch subwoofer from Radio Shack. What size do you think would be best? and can you recomend any other good ones to use.

For Tweeter: Thats a toughy, should I go with a good 1 inch tweeter? or go with like a 3 inch tweeter? OR just buy one of the 2 by 6 horn tweeters from radioshack (already have 1) and add on to it?

But, I think using RAdioshack speakers would be the best, since they already limit what frequencies they respond to, and I wouldnt have to deal with getting crossovers.

If I did though, I would like to get any one of the Heritage line speakers crossovers.

However, till I get the new speakers, I will be using the speakers out of my Fishers.

  3. Thanks guyz,

Its still however a good chance that I may get those KLH's.

Yes they arnt the greatest, but they arnt horrible.

Possibly about the same level as my Fishers.

But for 100$ a pair, I think it would be kool to have them.

Jo-Jo still hasnt gotten any heresys unfortionaly, and probobly wont be for awhile.

If I dont get my Pro Medias back from my dad any time soon, I may get those KLH's but, even then I would need to get a Amp also. Have been looking at this sony reciever, stereo with A and B switches. 150$

But, if my uncle danny gets into town soon, my dad will get his reciever fixed, then he may still upgrade his speakers, and if he does that I will suggest to him to upgrade his Amp.

Will be pointing him twards RF-3's new from Hillcrest. And maby a Pioneer Elite 2 Channel Amp. that cost 200$.

But if he does that, he will be giving me his Kenwood speakers and his reciever. So then I would have 2 large floor standing Kenwoods, my floor standing Fishers each with 12" woofers I believe. and a Kenwood Reciever (100 watt per channel) front, rear and center cannels.

    BAH!, this is annoying.

I wont a powerful system..... something descent and loud and not very expensive.

    aHHH!! Smile.gif

  4. Well, I have been considering buying a new pair of speakers. currently considering some KLH 9912's, since they are only 100 bucks a pair.

    http://www.klhaudio.com/prodfloor9912.htm

I would be testing on some other speakers first if possible, but I was wondering how, if it is possible, I could replace the magnets with bigger magnets, and replace the voice coils with larger voice coils.

would this make a big improvement? worth it?

    please, download this file.

I know its a Doc.. but the mp3 file wouldnt DL correctly..

so, download it and open it in winamp or waht ever you use, and it will work.

I have been considering getting heavily into music lately.. and bought a MixMan DM2 2 dayz ago, which is waht I used to make this song. This song was done by my self and my friend Jonathan. Me on the left mixer, he was on the right mixer.

After hearing this.... would you guyz say that I should continue?

or that I suck and should give it up now while I am still ahead.

    **note

have only had MABY 10 hours experiance.. before creating this song.

    Thank you.

Where you live? I think I'm gonig to come visit you when I get my car Smile.gif

    Questions:

How low do the SVS's go?

Is the transition with the SVS and the KLF' as smooth as it was with out the SVS's just running the KLF subs?

    Can I have one? cwm32.gif

  11. Oh,

    ment to say also

KLF-10's if found cheap, and a Klipsch Subwoofer may be able to keep you under 1,500.

  12. If you could find some KLF-10's for cheaper those would also make good rears.

If you dont have a sub... you'd be best to get one of them.

As boa said, you can do about 500 on a nice Klipsch

or do the whole 1500 on a Velodyne.

  13. i've heard the RF-7's and the RF-3's

    Both are good speakers.

Depends on how much you wanna spend though

I dont think the RF-5's are worth the 1500$ pricetag, 700$ increase over the RF-3's

you would have a better match and it would cost you alot less to get a pair of RF-3's

But with the money you would be saving you could get 2 pairs of RF-3's and replace your Fronts and your Rears.

But, I would keep the Forte's personaly.

  14. I wanna know what warrents the 700$ price increase from the RF-3 to the RF-5.

Both have 8 inch Woofers, both have 1 inch Tweeter drivers.

    Things that are different.

    Hi Freq cut off.

    Twetter driver design

8 inch horn instead of a 7 inch horn.

I DO NOT see anything worth 700$

  15. But I thought the louder a speaker got the better it was.

    Loudness = Quality right?

The more Wattage the better..... am I wrong?

You know, them bose cubes are great, They are small take up little space, and get loud.

Correct me if I am wrong.
