I can see where your coming from, and some day I think I will do my own test.
As for Superdave. WHY would you sacrifice Midrange? THese speakers are already lacking in the midrange... that just seems silly to me.

The guy that was going to sell them to me sold them to his friend instead.

His friend got a great set of speakers at a even better price.

Some of the Larger Martin Logans go for about.. 6,000$ apiece.

The 5.1's would be good for me, because My front two speakers are in the corners. each one is about 8 foot away from me. and up about 5 foot.
My rears are the same, just about.. 10 feet away.:

So as you can see... A 5.1 would fill in empty space.
But since I will hopefuly be getting v2-400's.

I think I'll open up a sat, and take out the 1/8th jack, and make it straight speaker wire.

If you want a 5.1 setup.
Just buy a 2.1 Pro or v2-400 or 4.1's off Ebay.
For about 150 if you can find it.
Just my 2 cents.
If I were in your Situation, I wouldnt go with the 5.1
I was going to before I decided to get a set of v2-400's instead to go with my 5.1's
But I watch DVD movies.

I was thinking about paying 100$ and upgrading to the 5.1's... but I got a great deal on a set of v2-400's.. 100$.
So I am going to be getting them instead.

I can help ya out, I am going to be doing the same thing with my Pros.
(Just as soon I get my 4.1's back from my dad, and if I get another set of Pros, (v2-400's)
If you go to radio shack you can get adapters. You can get a Stereo 1/8th inch Jack to RCA (? the large black connectors..), will have a Female 1/8th jack usualy, to 2 of the Larger connectors.
Get two of those, hook your pros in, and hook up to the Reciever.
You can also try this, it would only be Stereo .
Use your Headphone out.
Get a Y adapter and plug in the Rear and Front speakers, and plug it into the Headphone out. If its a larger Connector, buy a 1/8th to what ever size it is adapter.
