  1. Sorry for the damage, that really sucks. On the bright side this would be very simple for a local woodworker to replicate. I made new risers for a pair of Chorus II's a few years back. The contour is a basic one and my dad had the correct router bit in his small collection. I forget the dimensions of the wood but that too was common. We used solid oak boards with 1"x1" stock glued into the corners along with 2" braces w/45 deg cuts about 3" away from the corner. Those were nailed in place. It was a fun project that only took a couple of hours in a garage to do.

-----did you ask klipsch if you could return the product and get an exchange for the correct KD-16 ? or modify your order if nothing shipped as of yet

I have reached out to Klipsch but only to order KD-16s. I don't feel right in asking the to accept a return of the KD-17s since I bought them last summer. If the parts department gave me wrong info then I may feel differently but since I used information from the forums then I can't fault them regardless of who gave the info. That line is slightly blurry in this case but I will just try to sell them to someone who needs them and doesn't want to wait for them. I have no issues with the parts department at Klipsch but they really seem heavily undermanned. On the bright side it's nice that they are providing support for their speakers with people here stateside.

  3. I wonder how many people bought KD-17's to replace their KD-16's based on the chief engineer of Klipsch stating that it was a suitable substitute? It's pretty frustrating to have already spent no less than 2 hours on the phone with the parts department, nearly 3 months of waiting and just shy of $200 to get parts that we are now told are not suitable as replacements. When this topic was being discussed Roy basically said that it works because I say it works. That was enough for me to trust him. I guess that was a mistake and I should've bought the replacement kits from Simply Speakers. Mistakes happen but a person in the position like that of a Chief Engineer of anything should not be making statements based off of anything but factual data. It feels like someone wanted to throw their title around to make statements knowing the people would follow whatever he said. I guess since he owned up to his mistake that makes everything all right. Only people that would see it that way are the ones who don't have any skin in the game.

What did you pay for them? If you have any issue getting an RMA on those I am sure there is interest here for them.

Their price is very reasonable when bought directly from Klipsch which is why I went with new versus a rebuild kit. I paid about $85 ea delivered. Shipping alone would be $40-50 without a business rate.

The forte 4 drone will work for the forte 3 and 2. The chorus drone is different but can be ordered at klipsch.

if I did say that before, then  I was wrong.

Can I return Forte 3 Passive radiators that are still new in the box and get them replaced with new Chorus II PR's? You were very adamant at defending your position that the Forte 3 PR was a acceptable replacement for the Chorus 2. The process of ordering parts from Klipsch has never been especially pleasant nor quick.

  6. I use 2 Captivator 1400s and their output is ridiculously obnoxious. Not as good for music but for movies I have not heard better. I'd rather watch a movie at home than any theater. I went with the 1400 only because I found one locally for $1,000. Ordered a 2nd one new so for less than $3,500 I have bass like I never dreamt I'd have. I think there is a chance I would be happier with 2 Captivator S1s only because they "should" do better with music while still preforming well in my 200 sq ft room for movies. I have no reason to chase that improvement though because luckily I have Chorus IIs in another room for music. With proper setup of the electronics I could probably dial them in better for music but for now I am happy.

With your listening needs I'd lean towards sealed subs.

An added bonus to having a system with truly substantial bass capability it makes nearly everything better. There is so much more to hear when watching tv that you never knew about with a system that cannot dig ultra deep. Even though I bought all of his plans I never got a chance to build a large Bill Fitzmaurice horn sub and now I don't have a reason to :)

Any idea if this would this be powerful enough to drive Klipsch Cornwall I's? Looks to be 3 watts per channel, is that correct? Thanks

I cannot speak to its ability to drive Cornwall I’s but I can confirm that it has enough power to drive Chorus II’s with ease.

Wasn’t quoting a 75 shipping weight. It was the 18 lb. I shipped Monday as an example of shipping costs.

I have 75’s and understand they weigh considerably more than 18 ibs.

sorry, I thought you were giving a cost for shipping single 75's. I drove to Vegas to pick up my first pair because it was cheaper to drive than it was to ship them and then it was safer as well obviously.

    FedEx Ground - KC to N Carolina - 18 lbs. Insured for a grand = $46

Please don't get anyone's hope up that shipping will be cheap. If I were to ship these each one would ship in a original box that is surrounded with HD foam. Dimensional weight is what drives the cost of shipping up. I paid around $80 ea when these were shipped to me (AZ) from NY.

  10. Very strong and well-built integrateds that sound great and have quality components with really nice binding posts. Good flexibility by being able to use it in a home theater setup as well. GLWS
