  1. I picked up what looks like another pair of speakerlab khorns but the guy I bought them from insisted that they were made by Heathkit. Does this sound right? Also I haven't ever seen mid horns like these so I was hoping one of you would recognize them and tell me what I have here. Thanks so much
  2. The room is about 14ft wide. I Have a longer room thats about 20ft corner to corner but where a sofa would have to sit would block the garage door
  3. I recently came across a pair of JBL 15in alnico K-130's and decided to give them a try in my Speakerlab Khorns just to see if they would fill in that midrange that I've felt was missing a little. I've only replaced one so far so I could test the differences and what I'm hearing right now is extremely pleasing to the ear. It's not that the K-33 sounds bad in any stretch of the word. I love the deep feel it inside your chest feel of the K-33 but the JBL K-130's seem to really fill in the mids. I think I am sacrificing a very small amount of the deep deep deep lows tho(always have to give up something). Has anyone tried this setup before and have any thoughts on if other 15in woofers can work with the folded horn design? I'm running them on my Carver 1.0t amp. I got these out of a pair of really really beat up lascalla's a buddy of mine picked up. While listening to them I noticed the drivers sounded a ton different than my khorns. So I popped open the bottom and was shocked to find that there weren't any k-33's in there hehe. I have a chance to buy the lascalla cab's for $40 total but they are pretty beat up(these worth snagging?). Looks like someone painted them with undercoating truck material. I'd prob have a guy use truck bed liner material and go over them if I was to get them and use them in the garage I also grabbed the Crossover's for $50 total. They don't look too bad. Mainly just really really dusty.
  4. Got ahold of my first Tube Receiver, The Fisher 400. It is going to need a lot of tlc and recon before I hook it up to my kg-4's and my speakerlab khorns. Just curious if anyone who owns or has tried one with klipsch would tell me how it sounded. The guy who sold the receiver to me described the sound as creamy. First time i've ever heard someone use that description heh.
  5. I have noticed that the K-Horns are not as detailed in the mids and highs as my B&W matrix 3's are or my KEF 104/2's. Is this normal for a K-horn? Also has anyone done any upgrades to improve the this?
  6. She thought my trip to go get everything was a little nuts esp the 7am to 3am trip across the state. I think she just thought my KG-4's sounded so good so why do I need anything else. She understood when I played the K-Horns!
  7. Nope not married yet and luckily my girlfriend is enjoying the music
  8. I promised pictures Picked them up last night. Was a leave at 7am get home at 3am trip. I had a blast tho! got to see some amazing stuff. Fitting everything in the van was kind of like trying to get 15 people into one phone booth. 5 sets of speakers. the speakerlab khorns, kg-4's, kg-2's, some vintage Cerwin Vegas, & kg-4.5's. 2 Receivers Marantz 4270 & 2230, HK cdp, a 32in crt tv lol, The Fister 400(really excited about this). The marantz's had to ride on my lap hah. Here's some pics of them once I got everything in the garage. Sorry for the poor picture quality it was 3am. The Fisher needs a lot of TLC. I need all 7 brass knobs too. Got them in the house and got them all cleaned up today http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/9307/img1119y.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/903/img1118o.jpg http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/949/img1117k.jpg http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/2356/img1116.jpg and finally http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/3814/img1122c.jpg still far from done but I'm having a blast listening to them.
  9. what upgrades would you recomend? I guess I need to see which woofer/horn's I have first.
  10. I own HD280's and 595's and I have to say they both sound very nice. I'm sure the 600's with an amp would be better but I'm certainly not unhappy with what I hear.
  11. I didn't really know what I would need and this is my first dedicated amp. I've been using a marantz 2275 receiver for my kg4's and stuff. So would you say running the Carvers in stereo mode @ 200wpc would be better? I certainly don't want to destroy my speakers. I did some cable management and the hiss is still there. Gonna try getting some better shielded cables and once I get my speakers placed it might be better. They will be 10ft away from the amps.
  12. One of the Carvers does have a hiss. I'm trying to identify if it's because I have the cables resting on the power cables and near the power strip or if the amp has that issue. The other does not have a hiss. It's funny the one that hiss's is the one that was serviced by carver and never used until i plugged it in last night. Would that hiss be noticeable while music is playing on the khorns if in fact it is the amp?
  13. I'm picking up a pair of Speakerlab Khorn clones on tues and I'm wondering if my current amps will pair well with them. Eventually I want to get real Klipschhorns but for now these will have to do. Built in the late 70's. I'll be posting pictures and more info once I have them setup. Amps are 2 Carver 1.0t's running in mono @ 1000w I also have a Carver CT-7 Preamp.
