  1. Ooh, Your in a tough spot. I own a ProMedia Ultra 5.1 as well, I love it. Ebay Could help you out here. I hate it when they discontinue stuff. If its the DIN pin connector then those are a dime a dozen. But if its the control module then that makes finding one very tough.
  2. Meaning you can feel the bass? like when an explosion happens you feel the shock wave?
  3. Hmmm, Ill give it some thought. Ive heard that SVS PB-13 Ultra can go quite low, around 10Hz I think. But its more expensive.
  4. I don't plan on making a tapered horn design, Although intriguing, I have zero experience building an enclosure. What Im specifically looking for is a brand name sub that I can pick up at a store or order online. Having read the posts it appears that buying another sub 12 wont get me close to 15hz.
  5. Ok so the question is: Can i use my car amp (Orion external something made for a sub) and run the speaker wire directly to the active speaker in one of those home subs? Yes you can, as long as you don't mess with the enclosure you should be fine. Also, be sure your amp can power that beast. You have to remember that in order to achieve good low end frequency response you have to have a big space. Its something like this. 1Hz = 1130' thats how long the wavelength is from crest to trough. Now for 10 Hz that would be 130' and so on. Im no car audio expert but it seems that Car subwoofers tend to fold over low end wavelengths in order to have higher dB's. Sure you can try it, Just don't be surprised if it doesn't sound that great. But it sounds like a fun idea!

    15Hz Sub

Hello, I've been talking to people about subwoofers, I have a dual 8" side firing woofer (Pro media ultra 5.1) and a Sub-12. People say Im missing the "good stuff" below 20 Hz. My sub 12 goes down to around 24 Hz which is great but id like to feel the explosions. I mainly do post production work and soundtracks. I have a budget of around $750 although I could go a tad bit higher if necessary, any suggestions on brands?
  7. Well, I didnt mean to make the poll to vague. Im was trying to keep it simple. I count the number of subs by the boxes. True some subs have more than one diaphragm, But my general rule is for counting subs is the box itself not the drivers. Thanks for taking time to explain.
  8. Thanks, I do have plenty of beer around. Ill definitely look into that.
  9. Well, True I am missing some good chest thumping 18Hz bass. But it all comes down to personal taste and budget. Now I would love to get some high end Sub's that throw down some serious low end. However that costs a lot of money and Im still in college.
  10. There should be a poll attached to this post. My personal opinion: Yes you can have too many subs. Although I have an 8" and a 12" hooked up so the 8 can handle 120-60Hz and the 12 can handle 60-25Hz. I like that setup. What do you think?
  11. Well the fuse T6.3AL250V appears to be a 6.3 Amp 250 V fuse. If its a "fast blow fuse" meaning it blows the instant 6.4 amps are sent to it, then you might want to try slow blow fuses. "slow blow fuses" can handle short power spikes but if its continuous, it will blow. I would feel uneasy using slow blow because I could damage or fry my sub. Fuses are meant to protect whatever its powering from surges or spikes, if it keeps blowing itself, you might want to take the sub in to a repair shop or klipsch. Be sure the outlets your plugging into are wired properly too.
  12. Yes you will have to get a receiver. But the more important thing is, If you have a promedia Ultra system you cant really connect the sub unless you have an 1/8" to RCA adapter. you would have to plug the male 1/8" plug into the C/SUB jack on your sub, then you need to find out which RCA plug would be connected to the sub (red or white) once you sorted all that out, plug whichever one into the sub output of your receiver. The speakers are the easy part, just connect them into the appropriate outputs and your done.
  13. Hi all, Im still a bit new to the forums so bare with me. Ok so back in '06 I got pro media ultra 5.1 system for christmas. The system sounded amazing and I still use it today. On the back of the sub there is a SWS port for the SWS line of subs. (now discontinued) Back then I didn't really think of purchasing one mainly because the sub already had two side firing 8" diaphragms, it got the job done. A couple of years later I took it upon myself to investigate the SWS port. After doing some online research and taking the back panel off my sub, I concluded that It was basically another standard RCA port for LFE and not a proprietary connection that would only work with an SWS sub. That was great news for me because I could then use any sub with an LFE input. I then decided to see if the RCA port was wired before the audio signal got amplified or after. Turns out it splits the sub signal and routes one to the amp and the other bypasses the amp completely and gets sent to the RCA port labeled SWS on the back. So jump ahead to Feb '10 I now do post production work and my 8" sub just isn't cutting it for the low end. So I decided to purchase the Synergy sub 12" (quite rare now) after looking for quite some time I finally found an unopened Sub 12 on craigslist. Once I had it, I got an RCA cable and connected it to my Pro media ultra sub. After some Amplitude calibration I can say it sounds nothing short of EPIC. The 12" gives movies so much more depth. I have the crossover set to around 70Hz so the Pro media ultra sub handles 70 -120 and the Sub 12 handles the 70-23Hz range. Now I can have a clear idea of how much LFE I need to put in a mix. Just thought Id share this story. Feel free to comment or ask questions about my set up.
  14. I have two questions about the sub 12. First, can the SWS link on the back of the promedia ultra 5.1 be connected to the input of the sub 12 and function as a secondary sub? Second question, is the sub 12 capable of producing sub-bass frequencies (5-20 Hz)? Im asking this because the sub thats comes with the promedia ultra 5.1 is good but it doesn't produce that deep bass effect where you can't hear it but you can definitely feel it. Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated.
  15. I remember getting shocked too when I opened mine up. The heat sink is electrified. Ahh good times
  16. Hello, I have owned a Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 for some time(since 2004) , It sounds amazing. The only problem is that I left the system on for months on end (not playing music, just on) and I think the heat buildup caused the components to cook themselves. It still works but the input and outputs are all whack. The left channel signal is coming out of the center speaker output. and the right channel signal is being shared with the LFE. I have no clue what caused this. If you could post some ideas into what happened that would be much appreciated.
