  3. Tom, I think that you will enjoy any HH Scott, I was able to purchase a 299 about a year ago. I had it completely rebuilt to include the bias mod. There are telefunken 12Ax7s up front and 7189 output tubes. If you are interested or want to ask questions drop me a line at EasyEllis8@aol.com and courtesy copy Edward.Ellis@mildenhall.af.mil. Thanks EE

  5. Pictures are now loaded in FTP, now I will try and link them to a post.
  6. I'm only attempting one at a time, in fact, this is the only option that I have. AOL will not allow me to otherwise, I tried it. I'm going to try what you suggested in a few minutes. EE
  7. Thanks for the info fini, I'll try it in the morning; it's almost 0100 here and I'm tired. Moon, I think it's a combination of both, but more of the latter.
  8. Mobile, I remember the subject vaguely some time ago, I tried searching for it but I could not locate it. If you still have this please send me the link or tell me where it is. Thanks EE
  9. Yes, the dial up for overseas is terrible. I'll checked the size of the pictures and the largest one is 41.8kb. I'm using a primitive digital camera and I did not have the option to make them smaller and I do not have any software on my home computer that can do this either.
  10. I'm currently using AOL and I want to upload some pictures of my amp. With the way it is currently going, I'll be here until this time tomorrow trying to upload six pictures. Is there a faster way to do this? Thanks

  12. Craig, My name is Edward Ellis, let me know if you have a copy of what was done. If not, I still have an email that you sent me.
  13. I have a completely restored HH Scott 299 for sale. I purchased this less than a year ago and it was completely rebuilt by Craig of Nos Valves. The amp is in great condition including the orginal box. All you have to do is plug it in and you are ready to go. This was my first entry into the tube world and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to hang onto it, but I do not want to keep too much stuff in the attic. I'm selling it because I came across a great deal on some Quicksilver monoblocks and and preamp. I'm asking $625 for the unit shipped. I want to give someone here first dibs on it, to be honest with you, I do not feel like dealing with Ebay. Easy Eyes
  14. Sorry for not responding earlier but my little one had a soccer game last night and I didn't feel like getting on line afterwards. Yes, both of these are for $750.00. I'm going to call the guy this morning to see if he still has them. I'll let you know when I get my hands on them. Thanks EE
  15. I did search the archives to see if this topic was discussed before, I've done some research on this one. I've a chance to purchase the 25wpc monos and the line-stage preamp for $750.00. Before I give this guy a yes or no I need some input. Currently, I have a 299A and I like the sound of it, I know that there are better amps out there for a higher price of course. Will this purchase be a mind-blowing step up from where I'm at or is this more of a lateral move? I do not mind trying new equipment, but I do not want to go through this just for two pieces of additional equipment. Your inputs are solicited. EE
  16. Ball, Considering you've had the speakers a while along with the amp and preamp, I'll give you $900.00 for the both of them. You know how I do business. I can't believe that you are going back to HT man. Maybe changing your music will help you enjoy two channel more. EE
  17. I've searched the archives for topics on this but no one mentioned the Legacy Classic. Just wondering if anyone from personal experience can tell me how they sound with tube equipment. If nothing else, this is a beautiful speaker. I called the 800 number and talked to a rep, he stated that someone did a demo using some 6 watt SETs. Initially, he thought that they would sound terrible, but the experience was more than he expected. The bass was some what lacking considering this is a 96db speaker, but the midrange was spot on. I have a 299 and considering the wattage difference, my curiosity is peaked. This company has a manufacturer/semi-headquarters located in Springfield IL, I'm coming back to the states next year to visit family in Peoria/Chicago IL. I'm seriously thinking of driving down to audition or if nothing else take a look/listen at these. If nothing else, we can tour the state capital. Thanks for any input. EE
  18. I have never listened to the Heritage line but I do have the 30s with tube gear. I've had SS connected to the 30s and the slam was there. Of course not as much bass with tubes, but overall the sound is good. Like a previous poster, I haven't really observed the brightness issues with my 299 at louder volumes, but the brightness was very apparent with the SS gear. Gospel music is what I listen to with some jazz mixed in and I must say that it sounds good. I listen at the 3-4 range on the volume knob. When I return stateside I will audition other speakers in my home, but for $800 brand new for the 30s, I'll hold on to them for a while.
  19. Mike, If the distance between us wasn't so great, I would consider selling mine. I bought them brand new 2 years ago and they are still in excellent condition. The 30s sound good with my vintage piece but I'm sure that I can move up a little in the klipsch line up. If you are serious about a set get back with me. I have a buddy in NC who has two pair of 30s and a pair of 20s. One pair of the 30s have never been used, they are still in the orginal boxes and he's thinking of parting with them. Send me a private message. EE
  20. Sounds too confusing, remember I said that I was a kid when I was intrigued by the reel-to-reels. After considerable thought last night, I will receive the unit as a gift but I will not put a lot of effort into connecting it to my system. Mallet/PaulParrot: I kept up with the thread several weeks ago that you guys were chiming in on about computers (???) and top of the line CD players or something like that. The problem is, I work with computers all day at work and when I get home that's the last thing I want to do--look at my computer. All of my friends and family keep in contact with me through email at work because they know that I rarely use my home computer. I've been thinking about getting a CD burner for the house though, the ones at work are pretty nice. What about degradation of the sound when saved to a hard disk and copied back to a CD for listening to compilations of my favorite songs on one? EE
  21. Thanks for the inputs, I did not know there were so many reel to reel models. The only ones I remember was Akai and Teac. The next time I talk to my father in law I will ask what kind it is. Knowing him hes had this from the seventies, he likes to hold on to old stuff like this From what you guys are saying owning one of these can be very challenging and costly. I listen to nothing but CDs and the thought of putting many CDs on a reel to reel sounds more inviting than purchasing a CD recorder. I'll have to hold off on a recorder because my next purchase will probably be a new cd player. Thanks for your input. EasyEyes
  22. I know that most of you are using turn tables with your Scott gear but just a query/thought. How many of you are using or have used a Reel to Reel connected to your gear? I do not even know if it's possible but I'm curious. I remember going to my friend's house as a kid and seeing those reels and listening to continuous hours of music. As a kid I was mesmerized with the looks of the equipment not the sound. Lately, my curiousity has caused me to dig deeper into the possibility of owning one of these--mostly for nostalgia sake. While talking to my father in law the other day, he mentioned that he had one in working condition that I can have. From personal or other experiences how do you think it will sound with the Scott and Klipsch? EE
  23. This is also true of a lot of artists in the R and B realm. If you listen to R Kelly even with all of his issues, he still sings about God's love and the essence of who he is. Go back and listen to some of Marvin Gaye's older music, a definite spiritual influence in some of the music. A great deal of musical artists started in church choirs and have been around God's word for years even though they might not actively live for Him. I was reading a magazine not too long ago about how young people who are reaching out to God in many different ways, ie goths, new age, wicca etc. Society as a whole will classify them as cast aways but there is something about God's love, it's unconditional; above all He doesn't want anyone to perish. I listen to gospel/christian music only and I think that gospel music in it's true essence is a very powerful tool to reach today's youth. The older crowd has a problem with this but the youth of today really get into Kirk Franklin, POD, Toby MacK, Mary Mary, Gospel Gangstas, POD and the list goes on and on.
