  1. im talking about doing the finishes on it. Me, I wanted to veneer the boxes when i was contemplating it. Then sanding, staining and polying the hell out of them. Very time consuming.
  2. there is almost no wrong answer here. Hearing is subjective and placement is key to a subs performance. I have been very happy with my SV Sound subs and i would recommend them to you. Are you worried about WAF (wife acceptance factor)? A 20x20 room is a good size to fill. What is your ceiling height? I would say look at the http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/cylinder/pc12-nsd PC12-NSD or the http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/ported-box/pb12-nsd PB12-NSD as these are both smack dab in your price range. You have nothing to lose by trying them out. 45 days no hassel in home trial with free return shipping if you don't like it. I have two of these http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/cylinder/pc12-plus PC12-Plus and i have been extremely satisfied with their performance. It took alittle bit to dial them in with my receiver but once i hooked it up to my emo processor, things sounded much better as I had more control. I still haven't dialed my whole system in and it all sounds great as-is. The subs i have are very musical and even better for HT. They have a very tight bass, nothing sloppy here which is amazing. As said above, if you want to go the DIY you can get more bang for the buck but that isn't for everyone. I debated it and wound up deciding that i just wanted a nice finished product without the hassle of the DIY build and waiting for things to get completed.
  3. call klipsch, chances are they have a original or upgraded versions available for purchase.

with the way i have them corner loaded, their low end really shines. They tend to be pretty sedate at lower volumes but when you really start to push them at decent-loud volumes, their bass will shake the house without an issue

That is really a surprise to me. As good as my RF-63's are in stereo only, when I go to stereo + subs the soundstage gets tremendous, both wide and deep. The key is(in my room) to back the subs off a notch or two so not to overpower the mains. Bill The subs add a lot and beef up the bass department but only up to 60hz which is where my xover is with. It doesn't help 60hz + with that size of the image. I A/B'ed the other night and i walked away saying the 7's have a killer image.

no they haven't been dean G'ed at all. I've heard that it's a beneficial upgrade. In my house in NJ and now my house in AZ, very different rooms layouts and furniture but the speakers sound the same. I have played a multitude of media through them via ipod/cable tv/playstation all through my emo processor and the outlaw amp as well as a pioneer receiver. It has all sounded the same to me. It is just the sonic image of the speaker itself. Now, i believe, no, i don't believe, its fact that garbage in is garbage out so when i test i make sure to use the good stuff. Keep in mind here, this is not the audiophile 2 speakers and a chair setup. This is a multimedia setup for movies and music playing media from a multitude of devices but all feeding through the Emotiva UMC-1 and the Outlaw 7125 amp. I have all of my EQ settings flat and have done zero auto calibration. I have my PS3 set to play everything to the Nth degree. To me, I am hearing the RF-7's for what they are and how they were originally designed. I have them corner loaded so their low end bass is better than it ever had been before (i'd recommend this). I also don't think that they sound bad either. The whole purpose of them is for home theater with stereo as a pure secondary purpose. I hooked my RB-5's up and the sound stage is much less than with the 7's and is why i keep them, same goes for the RF-5's. The RF-5's sound great for music and I love them to death. I just have them in a spare bedroom for now. I may do the dean G mods eventually, i just can't afford it right now. I'll try messing with the midrange EQ and see if i can get something good out of it. Ive also been up in the air about changing some things because the fiance has made some comments about the size of certain things. I do believe that after a realization that smaller drivers = smaller soundstage, a small speaker won't make me happy. This is barring subs since i have 2 and that doesn't make the stage any bigger.

the 2-way and up debate is always a debate. Personally, i think that most designs can benefit from 3-way. When sitting back several feet from a speaker, the localization of each driver isn't really an issue so everything blends. My observation has been that vocals stick out more. They are more....lively. In the end, the goal of a speaker is to produce near lilvely experiences but this also heavily weighs in on personal interpretation of what you actually hear. The Heresys also exhibited the same attributes as the quartets do with that lively midrange. I suppose its just a great natural sound where i dont have to tweak any settings at all to make it happen.

After hearing the heritage line and listing to my quartets every day at work, i am greatly irked by the fact that the heritage and palladium lines are the only ones benefiting from a 3-way network. I think the reference line sounds great overall but is dry in the midrange and doesnt have that natural sound inherent with the heritage. Its just an observation I have made.
  9. what about looking at the energy veritas speakers? paradigm, def tech, axiom, svs, mirage, kef, psb, monitor audio, atlantic technology, sonus faber, aperion, martin logan. I think that'll give you enough speaker pr0n for a while. The great thing is you have a sub to carry your bottom end so you don't need to worry about the depth of the speakers rather enough ability to play admirably with no distortion. i dont think you can go wrong with a decent pair of B&W's. My dad has had his for 30 years now i think. The CM series has a nice sound which can be found in bestbuy and they look awesome too. I love the sleek gloss but that's personal preference.
  10. you can have tons of fun here! the hunt is fun especially when its for used. You can almost always break even for resale and you can get what you like! I have my pair of quartets that are begging for a refinish.......i can't wait. Muhahahhahahahahahahaha. Try a pair of maggies! I have been wanting to hear some goldenear too. So many options, SQUEEEEE
  11. Has anyone noticed this? I had it tuned to 65hz with a 12db slope and the male voices were getting really muffled on the lower end. I was watching breaking bad on netflix and it was hard to hear them. My fiance agreed. I retuned to 80hz with a 24db slope and then i used the port plugs from my svs subs to seal the rc-7 and it seemed to help a bit. I retuned back down to 65hz and there was definitely an improvement but still not as smooth and clear as i'd like. The center is in a built-in so i was thinking the port waves were reflecting in the shelf hence the blocked porting.\ Ideas and input?
  12. I hate to say it, Klipsch might not be the best brand for you if you slim line on wall. I havent heard the klipsch gallery and cant attest to their sound but there are tons of other brands out there with flat options. Def Tech comes to mind for that and they are sleek as hell. Personally, i think they are much nicer looking than the klipsch. Goldenear also has some flat optons too. You have to get a sub of some sort for the lows, it might just sound like a glorified TV otherwise. You dont have to go insane. You can get smaller sealed subs that would do ya just fine. My emotiva sub was like 13" cubed i think. Not bad If i do say so. Its not going to get you doom boom down low low low but it will comfortably handle the subsonics and much nicely with your on-walls. For subs, don't feel compelled to stick with Klipsch, there are tons of options out there and for what it sounds like you need, affordable options too!
  13. i was hoping to get 2-3" That mcmaster-carr website is....ive been lost in it for the last hour. amazzzingggggggg
  14. been there done that haha, first site i looked at and then the clearance section got my attention
  15. With the way i have things stacked right now, i need some taller feet on some of my equipment to keep things from overheating. I need rubber ones, none of the fancy spiked/pad feet. I have done some initial searching but nothing stellar has showed up.
  16. decoupling where possible is important. Off the top of my head i can't really suggest anything else other than what you are doing. You can add acoustic foam traps which will double and help prevent acoustic reflections. If you can use sound proof insulation similar to what is used in apartments, that will help.
  17. Heritage stuff would be pretty sweet and you could definitely use their higher sensitivities. Just remember, it's a lot to lug around. I DJ'ed for a little bit in high school and had 2 mach speakers, GLI amp and "the command center". This could be a really fun project, trying to seek out klipsch gear. I would try to do the 5 channel. Have you thought about subs?
  18. Scrappy, i am jealous. Now, actually seeing the size of those, my fiance would have killed me. Yep, somewhere on this forum, one post would have been my last. My first and only question is this: Did the 4 of them blow the poop out of you?
  19. i don't think many audio brands have a history like klipsch does. I have a Paul W Klipsch biography that i have been reading and he truly was a fascinating man. I'm young, i'll bounce back and get used to it. Congrats on the 13 years!!! thats a good accomplishment considering being with any company for a length of time of a decade or more i'd say is pretty rare these days.
  20. Oh Amy, i was hoping you were still around!! You always give the best answers. Sounds good to me! The new site is....Its going to take some getting used to. I don't think its as direct as the old one but the tie in of Paul W here and there is fantastic. I think it's a good tribute to the man. Kudos to the development team!
  21. .00000000000000001% of people actually need it haha
  22. you can get a NAS with remote access by one of your other computers on the network. I have toyed with the notion, "toyed" being the key word. Don't really have the funds to play with one atm. I just hook my main tower up via optical to send music to my processors. You could also use a red mere HDMI for video provided your current video card supports it. This doesn't solve a server type situation which is what you are getting at.
