  1. You may laugh at this (haven't done much research yet), BUT - how do they compare to the Klipsch Synergy Quintet III 5 speaker set up? Care to give me your thoughts?
  2. Thinking about buying this Receiver: http://lexington.craigslist.org/ele/2770995651.html And these speakers: http://lexington.craigslist.org/ele/2794194908.html Thoughts............?
  3. What would be the easiest way to hook up a PS3 into this system? That is where I think the HDMI receiver would be better considering I have ran the HDMI cables before we hung the drywall (only wires ran to component rack). Reason for the PS3 is CD player, DVD concert, and possible game here and there. Suggestions on how to hook up?
  4. Yeah, it's just an extension of my main room. The garage is attached to my basement (where my Forte Set up is). The garage system is just for the "wow factor" of my home made sports bar. The TV's will be cheap 46" LCD's. Mainly for sports. As far as sound goes, I think I can handle picking out speakers. My main question/concern is wiring. Considering I will have 2 HD Cable Boxes, I was wondering the best way to hook that up. Obviously the video will be via HDMI. Should I buy a receiver that is anything special (passthrough/upconversion, etc) or just go with a cheap 5.1 receiver that I can hook a toslink digital cable from the cable box to receiver for sound? I don't want to waste money on things I will never use. I will never have a "listening session" in my garage. Audio quality is not going to be that big of a deal. If it were you, how would you run a room with 2 TV's, one receiver, 5 speakers, and 2 cable boxes? Specific details (toslink, HDMI, HDMI splitter, inputs, outputs, etc) would be helpful.
  5. I am finishing my garage and getting close to painting. I have will have 2 HD TV's on my main wall. I have ran HDMI cords to low voltage boxes mounted where I want my TV's. I have speaker wire ran (inside the wall - 5.1) with ALL cable coming out at a single point where I plan to have a small component rack. This all being said, I am wanting to keep it real small and real simple. I will have (2) independent HD Cable boxes - so I can watch two different games at once. Anyone have advice on receiver recomendations, small speaker recomendations, and hook up/set up? I need to keep the speakers (especially the center) small when it comes to depth as it will not be recessed into my wall. Any problems you all see? (wiring is my main concern) and suggestions are appreciated!
  6. My question is now how to hook up correctly. What I have done is ran a sub cable to my Klipsch. I use a "Y" splitter into the input of the Klipsch (heard it gave you a 6 db boost). I then ran another sub cable from my RT-12 "out" into the SVS (across the room). Sounds pretty damn good that way. Although, should I be doing it different? "Sub out" split out of the reciever and run seperate cable independent to each sub? Thoughts/Ideas?
  7. I bought the SVS PB12-NSD. My first thoughts are WOW. You would think the RT-12D would blow this thing out of the water ($2,500 vs $800 MSRP). Well, to me, they sound great together. I have the SVS running off the RT-12 (line out). They work well together. I can post a better, more thorough description if anyone cares...... The difference is that the Klispch RT-12D sounds good but that SVS sub FEELS good[]
  8. I run the Pioneer VSX 94 with Forte's and it sounds great. Just sayin...... Although, when I run the MCACC, I usually adjust it back closest to what I like......
  9. Thoughts on adding a SVSound PB12-NSD? I found one local for $200....should I get it? Thoughts on what it would sound like with my current RT12?
  10. There is a local craigslist add for a Used Klipsch KSW-12. Since my room is 26' x 19' and the sub is in the back corner, there is a difference in bass depending on where you sit in my room. This is mainly for music and not movies. Is it such a bad idea to add a KSW-12 with my RT-12d (put in the front opposite corner)? I know it makes sense to add the same sub but thought I could get by cheap just to see what it does......... Any thoughts? Wasting money? Guy is asking $250 and I was going to try and get it for $150 or so.......and it is right down the street. Thanks!
  11. I have put my rears up on pedestals and that made a difference. Although I am still not getting the surround sound that I have heard in other systems. My buddy runs an Onkyo receiver (875 model - I think) and Polk speakers (5.1). When I watch concerts at his house the surround sound effect seems much better. For instance, on the Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD you can literally hear "licks" from guitars, etc coming from the rear speakers and that adds a lot to the experience. When listening on my system you do not get that "turn your head" and look at where the guitar lick just came from?? I call that speaker separation but maybe I am using the wrong term. Anyway, I have thought of a couple of issues that may play a role and would like to hear your thoughts: 1. My Pioneer Elite receiver does not send audio through HDMI. I run a seperate Toslink Optical Cable for audio. 2. My basement is 15 feet wide and 26 feet deep/long. I have all leather furniture and relatively thin carpet. This is where I was thinking acoustical panels may help... 3. I could upgrade receivers but have heard many comments about SS brands not being warm enough. The last thing I want to do is to purchase a high end Yamaha Receiver and it sound even more bright! 4. Since my rears are only Forte I's should I have them manually turned up? I currently have them on +3 and everything else is flat. I am still not getting the sound out of the rears that I know they are capable of when switched to Dolby Digital, DTS, etc......... Now, when I switch to EXTENDED STEREO they really wake up and sound awesome. I just want the "helicopter" effect in my basement (hopefully you know what I mean by that). As always, thanks in advance for any comments or recommendations!
  12. 1. Calm down 2. Breathe 3. Relax 4. Welcome to the forum Now, I did some trouble shooting that seemed to work the first time around: Take the fuse out and manually put it back in nice and tight (mine was loose). Then, if that doesn't work - check your outlet (probably already have). Replace the fuse with a "slo-blo" fuse to see if that helps. If nothing helps it is probably your amp gone bad. You can take it out (bottom of sub) and I could visually see something burnt on mine. I called Klipsch and they were very helpful and had a new amp shipped to me (for a flat rate) and I was back up and running in no time........ if I can help in any way email me joe.hoenig@eqdepot.com - I hardly ever check these boards..........
  13. This seems to never stop ................ I have a great opportunity to get a Klispch RT-10d for pretty cheap. Right now I am happy with my system although it is hard to pass up a good deal. I have my Forte (fronts) set to large right now and the Academy set to small. The room is full of bass form the RT-12 and the Forte's. I have a hard time pushing my Forte's though because I love them, they are old, and I just dont think they should be pounding away (although it sounds great!! Should I invest the money (around $300) to get a RT-10d and put it up front? I could then let me Forte's relax and have what I want (feel the bass from any seat in my basement). I am afraid the RT-10 and the RT-12 might not sound right.....anybody have experience with both the 10 and the 12 hooked up at the same time?
  14. Wow, nevermind. After an hour of messing with my receiver I found an LFE output control and turned it up to +10db. That itself made a TREMENDOUS difference. But then.............I read how the fortes have great bass over and over. I had all my speakers set to small (like the Elite VSX90 recommended). I switched my fronts to large and I could tell the difference in the room immediately. The front of my room finally filled up with bass. It sounds incredible right now. Feels like falling in love all over again........
  15. I think I am just getting bored and this has become an interesting hobby. Lucked into a pair of Forte II's about a year and a half ago and it started from there. I just want to have my next upgrade in mind as it helps me work toward a goal. Should I upgrade my reciever? I would also like to put my back two Fortes (5.1 system) on 2-4 ft risers. Having trouble finding a good way to do that (any suggestions appreciated). May need to search some threads as I am sure that has been done before. I dig my TV, love my center, very happy with my Forte's (fornt and rear) so................just stuck on what to do next.
  16. I currently have the Klipsch RT-12 and it is not bad. Very musical and great on movies. Although, I have decided I am a bass junkie and I need more. My Forte's and Academy seem to be very loud so I do not have to worry about "too much" bass. If there is such a thing. I would say my set up is used for music around 90% of the time (either IPOD or a concert DVD). With that being said, anyone have experience of the two subs mentioned that would be willing to guide me in the right direction? I feel like I could easily get close to $1,000 out of my RT12 and the SVS I can get for around $1,700 shipped (new). Will it be worth my $700? What difference should I expect? I just want to FEEL more bass. The RT sounds great but unless you are standing in the back of the room, you do not truly FEEL IT. Should I try to build my own sub set up? Always looking for advice. I appreciate any comments. Thanks - Joe
  17. I tried to move the sub to the middle outside wall (half way/middle of room). I sounded awesome from "my chair" although I lost a lot of the room filling bass. It seems like the RT model really loves the corner. The bass sounded more accurate moved up but I lost a ton of bottom end. I moved it back in the corner and felt it sounded better (especially music) as it had a much deeper (feel it in your pants) type of sound. I am just realizing I am a bass junkie I guess.
  18. Well, I sure do not have the money to buy another RT-12D. I thought I could sneak a $200 sub in my basement with my wife not killing me. Sounds like it is not worth the trouble. I sure do not want another speaker or sub laying around the house as this tends to start arguments....... I will stick with the one sub in the back left corner and deal with it. My basement is only 16 feet wide but 26 feet long. It is hard to feel the bass up in the front right corner. Just wish there was a cheaper solution.
  19. I have the opportunity to buy a decent sub at a awesome price. I was offered a Definitive Technology Powerfield 1500 for only $200 today. I am extremely satisfied with my current set up. It is definately LOUD enough. Although, I guess I love bass because I cannot seem to get enough. Anyways, I was thinking of running this sub off the RT-12D (output). Is that acceptable? Would it hurt more than help? I have read that putting a different size sub (15 vs 12) may not sound well. My room is 26 feet long and with the RT placed in the back corner I feel like another sub up front may help "fill" the room. Right now, as you walk back towards the back of my basement the bass increases sunstantially. Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.
  20. I run a Pioneer Elite VSX 90 receiver with my forte's and my academy. Personally, I think both music and movies sound great!!
  21. BE36: I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I appreciate your comments. My current set up (although waiting on my Academy in the mail) sounds AWESOME. I have all the bass I would ever want from my sub. Mu current set up is like what you have in the picture although my rears are a little more behind my listening position. Not too much, but definately not to my "side". My sub is positioned in the back of my room. My fronts and surrounds are currently on the ground. I like your point about getting the Forte I's off the ground, I may try that. I cannot imagine buying anymore electronics in the near future so I may try moving my fronts around a bit to tame my highs. As fas as the speaker level set up on the Pioneer, I have it adjusted manually. There is an auto calibration option but my receiver did not come with the microphone. I DO have the microphone from my Klipsch RT-12D (used for calibration), any idea if that would work?
  22. Alright, here we go. I have a Pioneer Elite VSX 90 TXV Receiver. I run a 5.1 set up. Forte II's as my fronts and Forte I's as my rears. I am currently bidding on a Academy center (that I shoud get). I also have a Klipsch RT-12D for my sub. I watch movies from time to time and listen to a lot of music when we have people over. When I listen to music it seems like the EXTENDED STEREO sounds the best (iPod and Concert DVD's). Obviously, when I watch a movie I switch it to Dolby Digital 5.1. I play my movies and concerts off my PS3. I currently do not have a TV that supports HDMI/1080P. I run component cables for visual and optical HD audio cable for sound. Any recommendations? I really do not have any problems as I think it sounds great. Although, It is overbearingly loud sometimes as the highs get pretty high. It almost is too much. I currently have my fronts turned down to -2 and my rears at +2. It sounds a little better that way IMO. My music sounds good (loud and clear). I would like to get better results when it comes to speaker seperation. When I watch a movie, the effects (rears) do not make you turn around like some other systems I have heard. Any ideas? Anyone have experience with this receiver? Would you do anything different? Any thoughts and/or recomendations are appreciated!
  23. My sub recently went dead. I apogize for the ignorance but I do not even know were to start (troubleshooting). Basically, the LED will not come on, no sound, completely DEAD. The outlet is fine. Other than checking that, I haven't done anything other than the obvious (make sure it is turned ON and wires plugged in properly). Can any one please guide me as to what all I should check? I hate to call Klipsch and I sure do not want to spend any more money if I do not have to! Thanks in advance - Joe
  24. What??????? The tag just says RT-10 but I am pretty sure out of the (3) 10's only one is a driver. The other (2) are passive. Almost positive.....
  25. I am a very satisfied owner of a Klipsch RT-10. I have many people come to my basement and love the sound of the sub. In fact I had someone offer to buy it this past weekend for more than what I have in it. With that being said, I also have a lead on a 2 yr old RT-12d for a reasonable price. Would it be worth $200 for the upgrade? I would have to drive 3 hours to get it. I love good bass and I hear my RT-10 distort form time to time on heavy bass songs (never in a movie). Does the RT-12D produce better/cleaner/deeper bass? Please let me know your thoughts as I do not want to waste any time or money. Thanks!
