  1. now I feel that something wrong with my setting... last time I ran MCACC it set my fronts at -2 and -1. center at -2, surround at 0 and -1 and sub at -5/-4. I set sub to -2. but after you said thet your speakers set at -9 -8 I think that my setting is off... what is better when channel level set around 0 or as low as possible? why?
  2. I've been under impression that you better keep channel levels around 0 or -/+ 3-4 and my Pioneer can go from -15 to +15. +6 and +12 kind high. Am I wrong? any other opinions?
  3. I have a friend who got much more experience and more expensive equipment and according to him it sounds pretty incredible. I bought bigger center channel and new 12” sub recently and have absolutely no issues with monologs, low or mid bass or surround effects now. Foolishly I sold mint SS.5 which I could’ve used for 7.1 set up tough, but my room is pretty small (13x16') and both sofas positioned next to the back wall so most likely rear SRS channels wouldn't add much effect since side channels located almost across each other and very close to the back wall. I just need two good recliners…
  4. ok. thanks again. that explains a lot. I’m not changing anything but sub channel level. Rest of the parameters looks good to me.
  5. I got Pioneer not Elite, but I've seen few Elite manuals and they all had pretty similar speaker setting, well of course Elite has more sofisticated and more detailed setting. check sub seeting: there are NO, YES and Plus setting for the sub. "Plus" setting should send signal to the sub even if speakers set to "small". also like scrappydue said try to set your speakers to "small" or sub to "Plus". did you check crossover setting?
  6. do you have to adjust speakers setting or just sub? I'm ok with MCACC speaker setting- sound good to me, but in order to get more bass I have to play with channel level for sub- for some reason MCACC sets it too low and I've seen a lot pioneer and elite related posts about it on different forums. I also read about same issue with Yamaha and even Denon.
  7. cool. thanks. I got only one EQ preset and only option I have is to turn it "ON" (EQ ON) or "off" (EQ OFF)". now I understand why sound in EQ ON and EQ off mode is not the same even with identical setting.I modified SUB setting and turned SUB channel level to -2 vs -4 set by MCACC, because bass was too weak for my ears. "Yes, MCACC is time aligning everything, EQ, standing wave correction and some other things" is it why MCACC sets my left front to -3 and right front to -2 even though my right front positioned closer to the mic than left front?
  8. I have a question about Pioneer MCACC calibration. First of all my MCACC sets different settings for my speakers every time I run it. difference within +/-1 for the speakers and +/-2 for the sub... Is it normal? Second, if I would run calibration, let it finish and set all parameters and than would set exact the same parameters for all speakers and the sub in manual mode "EQ off" mode, does it mean that I would get exact the same sound in "EQ on" and "EQ off"? I have only one preset "EQ" and can choose between "EQ/MCACC on" and "off" only. Third, does MCACC sets anything besides distance, channel level and speaker size?
  9. howdy forum. anybody knows how to get Klipsch Branded Gear with some kind discount, cheaper than at Klipsch.com? I'm looking to get few T-shirts but at $40+ a pc. (after shipping) it's not exactly affordable price for cotton T-shirts. any advice, help?
  10. how far from the corner can you put right SRS speaker?
  11. yep, that's exactly what I was talking about. just position the speaker a bit away from the corner. calibration should adjust distance and channel level.
  12. I was thinking about #2 position for RS speaker (first drawing). since you will be sitting right below SRS speakers 8" would be too high and you will be sitting in the sound hole. also see if you can mount right RS on the right wall (last drawing) 3-4' away from the corner (that would definitely give you better SRS sound dispersion) and let calibration to adjust speaker levels. Scrappydue, what do you think about it? 12" sub would be plenty for your room. but if I would be you I would spend less on the speakers and maybe even on the sub and save for something else, your room isn't really big enough for top of the line big and powerful speakers. I got 12" BIC sub and it's more than capable to shake my 13x16 carpeted room and even whole house if I crank channel level and sub gain up.
  13. ok, nice drawing, I see now. 95 vs 97 db sensitivity won’t be really noticeable after calibration. channel levels will be adjusted and compensated for difference in sensitivity and both of these speakers need to be crossed at 50-60hz or higher, so even if you have extremely sensitive ears I very doubt you will hear any difference, but if for the same money I sure would take RB-81. 8 ‘ might be bit high, especially since you are sitting right next to the wall, so position #1 is the way to go by my opinion. http://www.highdefforum.com/speakers-surround-sound/83182-surround-sound-system-speaker-placement-guide.html “Front speaker height is crucial and it is always best to keep them at the listeners ear level when seated. If that can't be done then make sure that all three front speakers are at the same height. The surround and rear surround speakers should be mounted at 1' to 2' above the listeners ear level to prevent localization, distraction from the front speakers and to allow room filling surround.” http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/home-theater/surround-sound-speaker-set-up/ Surround Left & Right Speakers (SL & SR): Place the SL & SR speakers between 90° to 110° to each side and 2 feet or higher above the listener. The SL & SR speakers recreate the enveloping sound and intense special effects that you experience in the cinema. scrappydue actually right. room is pretty small for any large speakers and sub is very important part of the HT. recently I bought 12" sub and feel huge difference now vs my old 8" sony.
  14. I guess I'm not gonna try to fix what isn't broken. I'm good for know and not going to mess with my sub. but I do have a question about MCACC: first of all my MCACC sets different settings for the speakers every time I run it. difference within +/-1 and +/-2 on sub... is it normal? second, if I would run calibration and would set exact the same parameters for all speakers and sub in manual "EQ off" mode does it mean that I would get exact the same sound in "EQ on" and "EQ off"? I have only one preset "EQ" and can choose between "EQ/MCACC on" and "off" only.
  15. try to set your speakers manually withing -3-2 range and set sub to -2-1 and sub gain to 30%. what kind flooring you got, carpet, wood? carpet absorbs alot of low bass, see if you can put ceramic tile or slab under the sub. I raised my sub of the carpet and bass is a bit tighter now. my F-3 also sitting on the tiles.
  16. ????????? ??????? ????????? ????????????? ????? ? ?? ??????? ???? ????????????! 1. RB81 vs RB61 wise, you will not hear any difference. Their frequency ranges are extremely close. You gonna gross them at 80 or 60 Hz anyway, depend on the price I would go with either of them. 2. Yes, in your situation it is good place for them. 3. I second akdave and think that position #2 for RS-52 is better. you also can put it to #1 position but in that case I would move couch a bit forward. 4. Akdave is right; I believe they should be like ½ to a meter max above the listeners ears. My SS-1 positioned on the wall just above 2 meters from the floor, just because I’m 196 and don’t want to hit them if I’m doing something around. Qustion: can you move the couch a bit forward? Or flip whole set up and put TV and towers where couch is and couch and SRS speakers where TV stays now, in that case bottom right corner on the picture would be good place for subwoofer, or even put whole set up other way, length wise? It should give you better placement for rear/SRS speakers and better sound and you wont be sitting so close to your giant TV.
  17. don't know what to say. I've been messing with my sub for a week till I set everything properly and suitable for my ears. what is the gaing on your sub amp? 50%? try to set it at 20-25% and run calibration again. maybe mic is faulty? how about new receiver? I believe you can get pretty nice 5.1 pioneer/denon for $250-275. or check CL. my buddy selling his 6.1 yamaha for $120, pretty sure you can find similar deals in your area.
  18. Not sure what you mean by setting small and large. I'm guessing my AVR isn't as robust as yours. I'm talking about speakers set up in receiver's menu, it should have two settings: Large and Small. "Front – Select LARGE if your front speakers reproduce bass frequencies effectively, or if you didn’t connect a subwoofer. Select SMALL to send the bass frequencies to the subwoofer." "Center – Select LARGE if your center speaker reproduces bass frequencies effectively, or select SMALL to send bass frequencies to the other speakers or subwoofer. If you didn’t connect a center speaker, choose NO (the center channel is sent to the other speakers)."
  19. "Stick around and you will learn a lot." +100 I'm not a guru and had trouble to set up my new sub, but took few advices from Derrik and very happy with my sound now. I got pair of F-3 and RC-62II which set as Large (I know, I know...but I've tried Small and really didn't like sound), their channel level set at -4. my SRS SS-1 set as Small and crossed at 80Hz. sub set to Plus, sub X-over off (I got the switch), sub gain at +4 and sub channel level in receviers menu at -3. try to run receivers EQ, it should be a good starting point. try to run your front as Large, might help with mid range bass.
  20. concidering $200 investmnet i'm sure happy! I swapped sub amp [:$] (didn't like texture on the replacement sab) and noticed that 3 walls (left, right and top) are covered with 1" of polyfill or something similar but front (where sub driver mounted), rear (where amp mounted ) and bottom left without any insulation. any reason for that? why they didn't cover everything? I've read that polufill will absorb unwanted vaves "It’s a sound absorbing, dampening fiber that makes bass sound deeper. It provides a cleaner midrange while getting rid of unwanted reverberation". I have few sheets of the speaker insulation. If I would cover rest of the walls in my sub box (not gonna cover amp) is it gonna make bass deeper or most likely effect not gonna be noticeable?
  21. got replacement sub today. all good. AUTO power work now. still impressed by the tight and heavy bass.
  22. o-oK! thanks again. yeap, I love my F-3's. great sound, great look and I bought them right. I know that C-3 would be better match fo my fronts vs RC-62II, but I'm just not in love with Synergy C-1,2,3 disign, they look wierd and got too much plastic. so far I like BIC F-12 too. should get replacementnext week due to faulty ON/AUTO/OFF switch, but becides that I really like it. but I do dream about RF-7II and KW-120 time to time... 23. my SUB channel level can go down to -15. so would you advise to raise SUB channel level, let say to -4 and turn SUB gain a bit down to 2-3 to keep bass at the same level? with fronts set to Large I just hear more details, mid bass is better too.
  24. Ok. I’ve read whole article at work and on the way home I realized that I have MCACC in my receiver and I even used it before… I guess I’m getting old and started forgetting things… Moved SUB about foot from the corner and run MCACC which set my Fronts to Large, Center and Surrouds to small and SUB to “YES” (not “Plus” like I was setting it up) . Fronts and Center set to -3db, surround Right to -2 and Left +2 and SUB to -12. I didn’t change crossover frequency (at 80) and Sub gain still at 5. Followed to instructions and set Fronts to “Small”, watched 20-30 min of “Jack the giants slayer” (my test movie) and switched back to “Large”-not sure how to explain it in details, but even my wife who is not really into HT and sound said that “Large” setting sounds noticeably better. I really amazed how low MCACC dropped SUB channel level and it still sound good and producing great bass.
