Forte IV or any version for that matter will fit the bill for you very nicely. With the forte, unless you are looking for subterranean bass you can forgo a subwoofer.

The forte's need to be anywhere from 8-12 inches from the rear wall for optimal sound. What type of furniture would be behind either speaker? A photo of your environment would help with recommendations. Are you looking at getting a pair of each, or are you trying to decide between the two?

Actually, the forte IV has a smaller footprint than the heresy IV. Granted it is taller than the heresy IV.

Was there vibration prior to modifying the speakers? What did you use?

Sounds like a bad diaphragm in the tweeter or squawker. Try swapping from the good speaker to the distorted one, one at a time.
