  1. Yesterday was a bit on the slow side so I did another boiled linseed oil application. I started on the bottom after removing the riser. I poured out a dollop of oil about 3 inches in diameter and with a new cotton cloth spread it out over the whole of the bottom. I turned the cabinet 90 degrees and repeated this. Then a repeat of the above with the second H 700. By this time the cloth is pretty well saturated (4 - 3 inch diameter pools) so I wet out the tops at this point. This picture shows how wet the sides are, I am pushing around a puddle until it is a nicely evened coat, just after I took this picture I wetted out the top with the oil soaked rag, some falling to the floor as I spread it. I left it on for the best part of an hour and wiped off the bottom and re-attached the riser and stood it onto the bottoms and continued with the 4th side, after the 4th side had been coated I left it for another hour before mopping off all of the excess. The excess oil removed and waiting for a quick polish
  2. I pulled off the clamps last night and the seem at the bottom opened right up, I pretty much figured that would happen s I was not surprised or bothered by it. I got a couple of coats of boiled linseed oil on and called it a night. I took a couple of pictures this morning. I am still having issues with this "new to me" camera. The bacon grease stains are gone and most of the scratches too. there are still several dings and edge chips but for a 49 year old set of speakers they look alright, I wish I looked like I did that long ago. Not so though... Yes the squawker and tweeter are incorrect and I knew that when I bought them but the cabs, backs, mid horn, crossovers are the right ones, not sure about the K22's though . I may swap them into a pair of Khorns that I have with the AK3 networks and use the K55v and K77 round magnets in the H700's. I am glad you posted HDBRbuilder history post here, I read it before going to look at these and a couple other posts. There was not a lot on them so I guess I should tag this for future reference.
  3. So after the acetone wipe down, 150 grit on the DA and a liberal dose of linseed oil, the one doesn't look too bad. I am hoping that the other one will be alright too. does anyone want to hazard a guess as to how the type C network will behave with these later components?
  4. These H700 were in poor shape and had bacon grease spatters on the tops and one side each, I cleaned them with acetone and sanded them with a DA, the bottom of one had been damp at one time and was opened up slightly so out came the glue and clamps. We'll see how that works. the other was less severe so I got out the boiled linseed oil and had at it.
  5. So I sold the Cornwalls and LaScala's and well I was back in craiglist and saw so H700's 3J677 and 3J676. well you see I got a pocket full of cash so I call to look and looking is a bad thing cause I am already there and the trouble begins. I ask to open them up and it has later klipsch mid and high (K55m and K77m square magnets), The woofer looked right as does the type C network. I don't even open the other until I get home and it has the K22 (The picture below) so I buy them anyway.
  6. Hi Mark Looks great, hope that you get a lot of enjoyment from them. I was a pretty painless delivery and I was home by dark. I posted a couple pictures over in "Alerts" Thanks again Gary
  7. Hi Mark It was a pleasure to meet you and I would like to thank you for bringing the cd with the tone sweeps on it so that we could test the cabinet that was re-glued. I am sorry that you had to drive all the way and find that the LaScala's were not really what you wanted. Anyway Mark from Braintree called me back and was by at 2:00 oclock and listened for a bit and we struck a deal. Had them loaded in the back of my pickup, strapped down with a couple of blankets by 3:20 and they were delived and I was home by the time it was dark. It sure looked naked where the LaScala's once sat. It didn't stay that way for long, I was up early moving some stuff around and later when I have more time I'll get it all connected. Thanks again to both Mark's for stopping by and helping me with some problems that I have. Gary
  8. We only have wild turkeys that seem to think the road make great clearings to strut there stuff. Darwin was right though and those birds that think like that just don't know the mind of the average Massachusetts commuter. The deer also seem to think that they own many of the roads mostly with the same consequences except the deer leave a lasting impression in the body work, the turkeys, well not so much, ask me how I know. I've been across this country a number of times and it's not until you get west of Chicago that the terms of vastness and open begin to set in. in the east it is just one big sprawl
  9. I guess that gives you a bit of time to think and add to the list of what is needed. It also gives you time to clear your head so when you get back you have solved some problems that were left behind.
  10. That word "sir" is a very loose term. It seems to imply something, a form of respect that I have never thought much about. Most of my "gear" are someone's castoffs that needed more work than others wanted to perform, I don't mind getting my hand dirty (some times bloody). There are quite a few members of this forum that have that in spades and are willing to show others what is possible with a bit of the sweat equity method of getting what "you want". I was great to talk to you Mark, I hope that they are indeed what you are looking for and will give you many hours (years possibly?) My inventory was getting deeper that even a hoarder like myself am comfortable with. Tough to bring in new things when there is no place at all to put them. That said the Cornwalls left 10 days ago and Mark sounds very interested so they may be delivered to his place on Friday if he decides to pull the trigger. I think most folks would agree that for the money I am asking they may be a bargain. I drove about 120 round trip to pick them up , 200 or so miles for the Cornwalls and another 50 to deliver when I sold them and yes I was very happy with all of these journeys. I like to drive, see places and meet people. I have a bunch more stuff to move, at least one pair of Klipschorns, possibly 2. I have already listed the Mahogany raw cornwall clone bass bins in the "garage Sale" section (visible in the first photo), asking $400 each, will sell 2, 3, or all 4. I recently got a nice (as in no rot southern) 1996 extended cab F350 diesel dually pickup to replace my well used (358k miles with plenty of issues) 1997 F250 diesel and I need to pay for that somehow, selling a bit of inventory will help a bit with that. Thanks again to all that have replied or just had a look see, the folks that make up this forum are some of the best folks on the internet and always seem to be willing to help out where and when needed most Gary
  11. I went over to my sisters and borrowed a camera - took some doing on my part to figure it out but here you go The two LaScala's are used as a mono center along with the home made MWM bass bin, they will play with either the belle's or Klipschorns. The cornwall bass bin clones are just taking up space at the moment, last week they were in the system but I sold the garage cornwalls and I took the 6 channel amp that they were connected to and have yet to connect them. p.s. - the two empty boxes on the LaScala's were built with a set of draws that my two friends hurled 12 feet down from the second floor, I pulled them out of the dumpster and had my way with them, no drivers yet as they weren't in the draws... So now that you know what black LaScala's look like, Give me a call... Thanks again for looking Gary gd
  12. You are correct but the camera has been broken and tossed out probably 3 or more years ago. I tried to describe them as best as I could. If you read the posting (anyone for that mater) then you most likely know what they look like and being black they don't photograph all that well, especially in craigslist format. LaScala's don't come up for sale that often in this area and the price isn't too bad. I left a phone number to call and I can talk and describe them fairly well, if some calls and tells me they are looking for perfection, these are not for them. So far I have received two ROBO txt's so those were deleted, I don't text! Period. For a home theater where the lighting is on the low side then they may be just the ticket to a whole lot of enjoyment for reasonable money. p.s. - the Cornwalls I had for sale two weeks ago sold without decent pictures for the asking price, I think that I am not far off on the LaScala's. p.p.s. - the Klipschorns are the next item that will be available Thanks Gary
  13. Link to craiglist deleted Yea - they are mine. I figure these really need to go to someone that will use them. Enjoy
  14. 189 miles - 3:31 hours I am in Ayer , Ma. for lunch once a week - 168 miles - 2:42 hours a friend comes down from Deerfield, NH - 132 miles 2:18 hours. Lots of audio stuff to move Gary
  15. I need to downsize , I am out of space and just feeling, well, Old. I built these in 2011 and nothing seems to be getting done so I am offering them up to those who may be looking. They were built of some of the nicest mahogany plywood I have had the pleasure to work with. The backs are two layers of 12 mm Baltic birch laminated together. These are just the bass bins with Klipsch K33's (from Belle's), installed. There are four (4) of them. I will sell them in pairs or all 4. I live halfway between Plymouth and Boston and may be able deliver within a reasonable distance. I wrote about building them a while back in the following topic. These are still mahogany raw and it looks great still. o
  16. Thank you Keith for calling and setting up a time to take a look. The Cornwalls are now sold. Hoping everyone has a nice, safe, enjoyable Thanksgiving. P.S. -I still have plenty of speakers available thanks again Gary
  17. As I related before they were urethaned before and the satin finish just looked awful. I still have some pictures on another computer that is not connected to the internet. Anyway they look very nice now in the picture and in person. I took down the old finish to bare wood, I believe that the had been sanded before I had got them, luckily the fancy veneered plywood that Klipsch use had some thickness. If I remember right, they are labeled HOO on the tags, that may have been why that looked s dark (urethane over a dirty oiled oak finish?). I would like someone to populate them and enjoy them, I had my fun refinishing and making the slant risers, It's time to move then along... Oh yea, I think I used a spar urethane varnish for the finish and sprayed it on, I may have thinned it with acetone but I don't really remember for sure, I do remember I sprayed them on a cold day (it was in the low 40's in direct sun) in December I believe . Thanks for the complement Edgar, sometime you get lucky, I think I only had one small run that is sometime hard to find... Gary
  18. I still have a pair - I wrote about them in the following topic, still have no photos
  19. We had a nice 10 minute talk yesterday and I thought that veloceleste idea of trying to install some h2 components in them might not work out so well, my original plan was to get the H3 kits and try and fit them. In the end I jus parked them in the corner. I was looking for some other pictures I had and I couldn't find them but I did find this one of the downstairs corner with a stacked pair of Klipchorn bass bins with the Cornwall in front. That is one of Cornwall's that is available, the Khorn bass bin (KD-FR with birch front) on top is also available along with some tops that I built. I still have a bit of work to do on them like get the bass bins outside and lacquer the fronts of the khorns.
