  1. Mickey Hart and his drummer buddy Bill K. were asked how they keep drumming for the Dead's 6 or 7 hour concerts. Their reply was "It is just like dancing, you get going and it is effortless".
  2. Archive really got me back into the audio mode. It is kind of like having your own music server. My brother turned me on to it a few years back. The first band I downloaded was Guster. Just picked it because I liked the name. Good band. Because of Archive, my CD collection has increased a hundred fold. I think I'm keeping TDK a float with the number of blank CD-R's I've purchased. BTW, certain bands put restrictions on downloading. Some are just streaming only and cannot easily be downloaded. jeff
  3. After Jerry passed, my musical interest really took a nosedive. But a couple of things have rejuvinated my interest in music. Got back into a couple of bands, Sirrus Radio and the web site Archive.com. I can spend hours listening to the different bands that have posted on Archive. Great stuff. Take care garymd. jeff
  4. When I was started to amass my Dead collection, I was hungry to trade tapes. Any and all. After a 1000 hours or so I begin to get particular about quality so trading slowed a bit. Then August 1995 happened and I lost interest in trading and music in general. Couple of years ago I decided to convert my tapes to CD's which is still an ongoing process.I've burned out to TASCAM's in the process but I now use a Teac recordable CD deck. I'm happy with it so far. I've been filling out my Dead collection with music from the Archive web site. Being a fan of live music Archive has expanded my music collection greatly. It has also rekindled my love of music. I'm assuming you've taped into the Archive web site. If not, let me know and I'll guide you throught it. Anyway, I haven't been in the trading mode since 1995. I will most definately pull up some WSP and moe. Thanks. Jeff
  5. Any band that has two percussionist, explores midi on the guitar, has a large bass player and occasionally uses a horn section gets a go pass in my book. I haven't listened to much of Widespread Panic but as of today I will. The little I have heard sounds pretty darn good. And you are very correct, it is not a drug thing. The Dead's misic can stand on its own. Thanks askbob1 for the WSP tip. jeff
  6. Agreed. If two Cornwalls are good, three are better. But why stop there, five Cornwalls would be a kickass HT system.
  7. Made it to page nine before anybody brought up the Dead. They usually make it on page one.
  8. No flaming here at all James. The Dead were always a "You get it or you don't" type band. From a early age I happen to get it and love being a "Deadhead". I do believe that to enjoy the band, one has to have attended their concerts. There is certain ebb and flow to the whole Dead experience that is not for everybody. A fact for which I am very glad as it was always exteremly difficult to get tickets to their show as it was, let alone if there were a couple of million more people trying to see them. I guess the band is a little like Scotch, and aquired taste. A good friend of mine, who happens to be the best guitarest I've ever heard, told me he went to a Dead show and just couldn't understand what all the hubbub was about. So you are not alone in your opinion of the Grateful Dead. In fact, you may be in the majority. On the other hand, I've built my soundsystem around the couple of thousand of hours of live Grateful Dead music I've collected over the years. Yes, they have played Truckin 1000 times but it has either suttle or major differences each time it is played. The endless noodling is one thing I live for. You either get it or you don't. Thanks James for stepping out there with your comments. Jeff
