  1. Same here... A fire rated jacket... Although it is true the CL2 wire is in the 'twisted' format to help pull it through walls (pulling a round wire through a round hole is easier than a square one.). Regardless, personally I use it for inwall as well as my speaker cables... ROb Did yopu just come home from the pub two, lol
  2. How do you quote everyone, lol. I reckon go for the Rocket 33. It has a really good name so it must be good. I found it was always best to lubricate my woofers with snake oil, btw, just sayin. Then on a more serious note, Laaaaaaaaa, the electrons that are free to move and make a difference are only located on the outside of the wire, so a fine multi stranded wire will have more surface area than a solid core of copper. I pipe would work better than a solid core as it also has an outside on the inside. For long runs I have used a pair joined at the end for positive and another the exact same for the negative. Keeping them separated so they don't fight with each other. If the diameter of a multi strand of wire exceeds 4.5 mm then my understanding is this is detrimental so it's better to use 2 wires to reduce the overall resistance rather than one jumbo sized wire. If you have 4 ohm speakers and there is 2ohms in your wires then only 66percent of the power is used by the speaker and the other 33percent keeps the wire warmer. So we all know we don't want to have cold speaker wires, just not civilised at all. As for coat hangers, do you solder them together for long runs or use those insulated screw wire joiners? The shorter the speaker cable is the better it is and this is undisputed. Consider, the speaker is part of the amplifier circuit as far as a circuit diagram is concerned. So not only does the "cheek" the speaker sends back to the amplifier when the amp tells it to do something have the amp trying to dampen this out and get the result, the speaker wires can put the speakers at arms length from the amp so the amp can't give the speakers a good clip under the ear when they need it, so they will become sloppy and lethargic. Try using really long telephone wire and see how that sounds, then you will have an idea of what does not work. When I say really long I mean really long, the longer the better the example. Hope my spelling is OK since I just got home from seeeeein a band playing at the pub, lol.
  3. No, it means tha it is the same driver with the same specs, but made by a different vendor. Are there going to be significant differences because of that? I doubt it. I'm a keep it matched person so just knowing that they are different will provoke concerns, lol. Fortunately, there are stairs leading down to my front door on one side of the room so this will help me sleep at night, haha. The power amps I selected to drive my jubs are a matched pair with consecutive serial numbers. Not that this means anything my Star sign is Libran, haha.
  4. There is also the possibility that a speaker wire is close to touching something. Anything that touches the bass horn and make a sound will have that sound amplified by the bass horn. Tap the bass horn with your finger and you will notice it is amplified. It is possible that the speaker wire inside the bass horn woofer chamber is very close to touching the timber and occasionally does touch. I had this experience and fortunately found it was something touching the outside of the enclosure. The sound was quite loud relative to the music.
  5. So that means if I get a replacement jub for my damaged one the drivers will be different, awe.
  6. My damaged Jub is now included in a quote for a system to upgrade the Klipsch ceiling speaker system in a Bar at World Square Sydney. The plan is to glue and clamp the damaged ply to coax it back into shape, invert the jub create some very short legs and a water proof timber or glass top. Set it in the corner where it was originally proposed to use a pair of 400watt 18inch drivers in reflex enclosures and couple the jub with 6 SLS LS6593 line Arrays in 2 columns. 1 column next to the jub the other in another location for coverage. So hundreds of people will hear the jub each week.
  7. I tested the Jubs as a full range, haha, lacked a bit in the high end.The low end created interesting effects with the plastic wrapping and the cardboard box. I found I really needed another dozen pairs of hands. It was very apparent even in the cardboard box that they are outstanding for those who have the need for speed.
  8. I opened the dog house on the damaged Jub to see if the woofers were still attached and if there was any apparent damage.

  10. For myself, my LaScala are as Bruce says and I enjoy them every day, tight, fast, accurate. I have also heard them with KP480's and that was impressive. It's all personal and fortunately we can all tailor our systems just the way we each like them.
  11. That's funny, I always thought the black LSs look smaller, but that 402 really dwarfs the La Scala. I really like the Black you have for your LS its decisive black and the 510's really work. I was considering a red mesh for the 402's maybe 3 strands per inch and a surround that just covers the holes with yellow ply baffles down to the floor matching the width of the 402's and bracing the bass horns. In corners that might have them balance. I would have about 14 feet from the listening position to the speakers.
  12. My 4 hour coastal walk yesterday helped with the damaged jub. The Cinema Distributor phoned me today and said he was looking into getting another jub for me without woofers and to take the woofers out of number 3. I would keep number 3 and possibly place face to the wall and put the 47inch LG 3D LED TV on top so 3 matching but the centre jub would reveal it's 5 rear panels and the curve would leave space for the inside verandah doors to open as they are only 1 inch wider apart than the jub width. The question is how do you test a speaker before delivery without the woofers. I'm looking for a commercial install job where I can repair number 3 sufficiently and get a new pair 5 & 6. Thanks for that scratch warning, I did check for sharp objects. The 402 is back in the box now. My LaScala have been to so many gigs and every time I carried them myself. Mum bumped the front with the vacuum once would you believe and you can see the mark in the photo. I always packed them into my HiAce with blankets side by side facing forward a slight tilt backwards and then connected then to my in car system, where the first watt was all important, haha. My friends would complain that when I stopped behind them at the traffic lights they could not hear their car system at all. I always enjoyed the gigs where we had to drive through the national park. Since my LaScala are going to be in my bedroom corners directly above the jubs in the lounge room. I'm thinking of designing some 3/4 inch ply baffles for the sides of the LaScala to match the width of the 402's and make some stainless 3/4inch clips to run down the side of the bass horns so the baffles will brace the horns from the outsides and colour match with the LaScala. I don't really want to mod them in any way that means no drilling. I have considered internal braces many times and have sat in front with plugs in my ears and my arms bracing the horns. Now days I don't really blow the windows out of the walls with the LaScala as I tend to enjoy the accurate detail and low distortion. At lower power levels the bass can be boosted to offset the roll off but generally I really enjoy that they are not bass reflex and when the bass stops it stops. I was fortunate to find the Yamaha B2x back in 1981 as it's single ended on one side of the speaker and push pull of the other and has two power supplies. Compared to the Phase 700 II it is as if something vanished and is an even better match for the LaScala than my Marantz 1200B. My thoughts are to Biamp the LaScala with the Marantz for the K33 and the B2x for the 402's. The Heresy would be speakers B from both amps and have the KPT-409 along the side but that's future for now.
  13. We mounted a pair of Heresy in the rear ceiling corners of our studio back in the 80's. The ceiling was concrete so we drilled and put in plugs then screwed in 2 threaded rods just wider that the Heresy. We cut a piece of ply the depth of the Heresy and wider to accommodate the threaded rods nuts and washers and it was perfect. The Heresy were inverted and the sound was huge with the corner placement. There was no tilt just a tight corner fit. The ceiling was not very high and mostly we were standing to listen. They were referred to as the big speakers but at that time they they were the smallest in the range. You could build a corner shelf supported by 2 L brackets screwed into the wall above the shelf and screwed into the top of the shelf. Lay some rubber mat or similar over shelf covering the brackets and you don't have to alter the cabinets maintaining their original condition.
  14. Your right Hate to see that happen, it's really a wonder things ship as well as they do considering everything they go through. I went for a long walk today along the coast from Clovelly to Bondi and back 4 hours and it was dark when I got back to the car. Here is a photo of my (1976) LaScala fully Jub-d out and with G-No, gardian who wants to use the rope [li] or something else. I got 2 pairs of new jeans on Saturday from G-Star Raw since they are the only company, I know who make them with 36inch legs which I need and they gave me G-No, this years "collectors" edition Rino. Sic 'em G-No My LaScala are Tuscan Yellow satin sealed and back in the 70's looked awesome on stage as FOH. People remarked on how those little yellow speakers blew away all the big black ones. They become smaller in yellow and match well with the timber floor. I think I will do my Jubs to match and also refinish my sisters plywood Heresy which I'm going to use as my rear surrounds since she has downsized my brother-in-laws audio. He can hardly wait to hear my jubs.

I have attached another photo of the damage. It might be it was stacked on the 402's which were plastic wrapped together and since the 402's do not fill the entire box the jub on top could fall. I noticed this was how they were stacked at the Cinema dealer and pointed this out the the warehouse manager and then took the 402's home. He use a forklift to take the jub off the top of the 402's. For me, I would not stack heavy items on top of relatively light items. the combined weight of the 402's is 66% of the single jub.

  17. This happened during shipping and the plastic cling wrap around the carton hid the wrinkle in the corner of the cardboard carton each time the cartons were inspected for damage. The Cinema Dealer are looking into resolution for me. I have send them many photos. I replaced the standard delivery with a leading Piano Removal Company for the last 27kilometers from the Dealer to my house and up my stairs so nothing would happen to them. The room they are now in and temporarily, stored under the stairs is the room where I intend they will remain forever. The acoustic engineer will likely come next week for planning the room treatments as the plywood ceilings and wall coverings are yet to be designed and ordered. As are treatments between the steel floor joists above to remove their resonance and between the rendered brick walls and the plywood can be sorted. The stair landing in the photo and lower section will be removed and replaced with a 90% 3 stair corner with 2 straight stairs to the floor and the lounge will be set say 3 feet in front of the stairs. This will provide about 14 feet from the centre of the wall the jubs will be on and this wall is 13ft 9inches across. I will get some massive canvas paintings for the side walls "maybe paint them myself with the rate I'm spending the money" and placed room treatments inside the frames, I could attach them to the front of the house overnight and see if they get some street art. I'm considering LED strip lighting forming a horizontal pelmet between the traditional Victorian terrace cornice and the ceiling. My intention is to remove the room from the room, Thank you all for your comments and consideration, my thought's are going off the scale with what has happened. They have 3 braces in the horn mouths. I don't want to part with number 3, they are twins 3 & 4 their amplifiers are also twins 24262 & 24263. I know they are speakers! Most likely an expert in fine furniture restoration will be my solution. Number 3 is shown in the left of the original photo at the start of this thread. That's it I choose fine furniture restoration.
  18. Everything everyone here has said is 100% valid and it's all about compromise according to what's most important for each person. I congratulate everyone for providing all these considerations. Now consider a pair of LaScala directly infront of a pair of Khorns time aligned so the benefit of the LaScala mid bass combined with the Khorn extended bass. Then a pair of Cornwall which actually means Corner or Wall placement as centre then 4 Heresy as inner and outer rear surrounds. A Tuba 60 for the LFE and you have a BB Heritage 9.1. i.e. Before Belle=BB. To add something more I attach part of the Klipsch owners manual that came with my magnificent LaScala's back in 1976 and I will never part with the LaScala even though I now have a pair of Jubs. The corner placement increases the effective size of all speakers and is something to strive for in every case. I did it with a pair of Yamaha NS-10M,s for a friend who had only $1,000 to spend and back in the 80's we got him a 15 w/ch receiver T/T and Cassette Deck. At his first party everyone was astonished at the microscopic speakers sitting in the corners of the room and how huge they sounded.

But then I was devastated I opened S/N-PTJUBLF11300003 and it has had an extreme fall face down crushing the edge of the top plate just where the left horn mouth meets the centre panel and last night I could not sleep at all. I have to go and mix a ballroom dance band tonight and will need lots of coffee to stay awake. I am so sad.
  20. Yesterday as soon as the Piano Removalists had left and after I showed them the photo of what was in the boxes, I opened the boxes first S/N:PTJUBLF11300004 and it was hard to contain myself. I was to excited touching the top and admiring the beautiful timber. They are sculptures. Its a shame the 402 is not transparent.
  21. Thanks Guys I very much appreciate all your comments and recommendations. Im considering for the future a pair of 409s with K69 for my Heresy and 402s with TAD 4002s or TAD 4003s for my LaScala. Then I can swap the hfs between the Jubs and the LaScala without using spanners. Yesterday the Jubs arrived and I got a highly respected Piano Removalist to collect them from the Distributor and professionally carry them up my stairs. All went very well. This is a current picture of my Jubs with the G-No guardian at the back of the room they will be in when its finished. Today a friend and I inspected both ends of the Jubs for shipping damage. They stayed in the boxes, we inverted then to look at the bases.
  22. These were installed December 2000 and are powered by 4 Yamaha P4500's bridged for the 682's and single channels for each 362. They are fantastic.
  23. Or stack them like this in the centre of the stage for events with a DJ.
