  1. Tampa is a little far... (I'm in Canada) Well after mixing and moving around different speakers, I decided to pull the plug on the Rc-62ii and go for the RF-62 as my centre. WOW! what a difference! The tweeters are now matched across the front three. Vocals, and dialog move seamless across the front sound stage. Even trying speakers on 'Large' with the subwoofers off, the RF-62's keeps up with the RF-82's, and pack a sold punch. Unlike the lack of punch that was there with the RC-62ii. My Wife notices the difference and likes the new addition. Towers are definitely the way to go. If you can't do towers, at least have three identical bookshelves across the front.
  2. I Just got a reply from Klipsch about timbre matching the Rf-82 (iv) and the RC-62 (ii) series. They said that the (iv) and the (ii) series are not a timbre match. They where also saying that the RF-62 and RF-82's will be a timbre match. "It is still the 1” titanium tweeter, but there is a type of magnet used on the II. Different crossover points were used in the II’s as well, meaning the tweeter will play a bit lower than the previous models." Just so everyone knows, I'm not trying to bash the new RC-62ii so I think it is a great speaker. Just not the speaker for my application. I also don't think there is anything physically wrong with it or my amps/processor. I just think the reworking of the new 'ii' series has taken on a different sound, one that isn't the same as the older (iv) series. I would love to get a RC-64, but the shipping and hassle for getting one across the boarder is a pain. It was hard enough to find a RC-62ii that someone could get in. The cheapest I can find a RC-64ii for is $1300-1500, more then I am willing to spend. Also I would not want to spend that money on a RC-64ii, (although better than a 62ii) to have a 'different' sound to it aswell. I think my best option is a RF-62 (iv), as Klipsch suggested; "Yes, the RF-62 would timbre match the RF-82's you currently have." I also think that it being a tower, I may loose a small amount of wide angle sound in comparison to a tweeter from a center? Although the impact of a tower I think would be harder to beat with its lower extention 38hz vs 57hz. I tend to like a lower crossover when it comes to a center channel anyway.
  3. The centre is out in the open, on a stand, under the screen. I have played around with levelling , audyssey eq w/mic, and a SPL meter. I still can't get it matched right.. It still sounds off... The x-over is set to 60hz or 80hz, and set to small... (i have tried large) but still nothing close to the others. I have tried multiple sources/ media. (the Bi-amp feature of the older models was a nice touch, its just a peeve to take a feature away on a newer model). I was at the local store today and tried doing a/b comparisons with RF-82 and 62's. I only noticed a little less lower end bass with the 62's, but everything else sounded really close. I think I'll end up going with the RF-62 as a centre channel, unless there are any huge reasons not to switch.
  4. As far as the grills go, for me, they stay on 99% of the time. The only time I take them off is to show them to someone... I keep them on to keep the tweeters clean. As far as subwoofers go, I would say, the RW-10 should do you good.
  5. I'm looking to upgrade my center, I have an RC-62ii and I find that it doesnt match very well with the RF-82's (iv). I find that the 62ii was a little bit of an upgrade from the RC-52(iv). The dialog was a bit better, but the RC-62ii still felt like it was missing the clearity (or maybe harness) that the older models had. For glass breaking or any higher pitched sounds, the RC-62ii is very soft (too soft). Then for the lower frequencies it feels like it is hollow (no punch to it), that was the reason for upgrading from the RC-52 to begin with. The only way I found that the RC-62ii would keep up to the RF-82/RB-5ii was if the RC-62ii had my RF-52s added to the main channel for that extra kick (also a side note, the RC-62ii doesnt have the biamp capabillity .sadface. ) So my options are: (limited due to budget so RC-64ii is out of the question (also don't want the softness of the 'ii' series) 1. Add a second center channel in addition to the RC-62ii (older models RC-35/3/ii). (comb filtering issues?) 2. Change out or add a RF-62 (iv) as center - Cheapest option $299 new (do they have the same tweeter as the RF82?) 3. Add a Center RF-82(iv) Most expensive/ hard to find (issue of the TV/projector screen being mounted too high, 8' ceiling and no room to build a false wall with a AT screen) Here is my setup: RF-82s-Fronts RB-5iis- Heights/2nd Fronts RS-3iis-Surrounds RF-15s-Surrounds RF-52s-Rears RSW-10 and Sub-12 for sub duty. Powered by: Rotel 990bx 200w (front) Adcom GFA-5006 (175w for Center) (50w RS-3iis and 50w for RF-15) Adcom GFA-545 (100w for RF-52s) with Marantz 5004 as the preamp.
  6. I took the bolt sent by klipsch to home depot and matched it up with a 1"x 1/4" (i think) carriage/ rounded top type bolt to 'plug' the hole.
  7. Just a follow up on this.... It is turning out to be port noise / rattle from the 'toe' up and down bolt holes. after plugging the bolts holes, no more rattling.
  8. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue with the RC-62 ii. It seems if I am listening to multi channel music with low 'ish' bass, it rattles (ie. Gorillaz - Stylo). If I slightly put my finger on the rubber surround, while its playing it stops the rattle. I have only had the center for a few months ~ 20 hours on it. Its being powered by a Marantz SR5004, and volumes are kept under 90-95db at the speaker. (also crossover is set at 80hz and small). The other issue I have is that the center does not seem to keep up or really match my RF-82's (seems like there is a blanket over the speaker), and didnt' seem like any upgrade from a RC-52. Any suggestions or ideas before I attempt warranty? (shipping is expensive from Canada) Thanks
  9. I have a few question in regards to my setup. A little about my HT system. RF-82s/RC-62/RF-15s/S-2s/RB-51s/RSW-10, crossover at 60-80hz, all in a 16x14x8 room. I listen to 70/30% music/movies. Right now I am finding my Marantz SR5004 (90w x 7) doesn't have enough jam when listening to 2 channel music. I usually have the mains set to large as I don't usually like to listen to music with a sub on(could also be that my sub is in the rear right corner, unless I can build my sub under my center channel stand. Also I am finding in movies, that the RC-62 sounds like it is missing 'life' with vocals at reference volume and the rears RF-15s are not getting much for bass. I have played around with my old SR6002 (100w) avr to power my RF-82s and S-2's to take some of the load off of the SR5004, though I am finding is making not too much difference for 2 channel, but a little more so in 7.1. I am currently building thin (1") acoustic panels and have already placed heavy curtains behind my listening position. My budget ($400-600) allows me to add either a UPA-2 or XPA-3 (if used) due to high shipping costs and boarder fees (Canada). I am concerned about over powering the RF-82s with a XPA (at loud volumes), and not much difference with the UPA (125w) over my Marantz (90/100w all channels) and only being 2 channel.I have also read the the UPA my not due well to impedance dips also? I would like to eliminate the dual avr setup I have right now. Ideas? Thank you.
  10. I auditioned the RF-62, RF-82, and the F-20's a while ago at London Drug's sound room. For my ears it sounded like the F-20's had more of a softer sound to them. My wife and I prefered the sound (and looks) of the Reference, though we didn't want to spend anymore then 'needed'. We then compared the RF-62 to the RF-82, . The RF's felt more alive and crisp (all powered by H/K's AVR-3600). The F-20/30's are still a really great speaker. In the end I would have probably ended up going with the Senergy series for cost, if the RF-82's didn't later go on sale for cheaper then the RF-62's. []
  11. With the ports on the RB-51, you don't want them too close to the wall, I didn't have much choice when using them for my rears. I went to the hardware store and made a shelf to put them on. I used 3/4" mdf and two 5" "L" brackets secured by carriage bolts. I made the shelf big enough that I can toe them in. Depending on your budget, you may want to consider RB-61/81 for the front ports. 12. I'll have to keep my eye out for a good price on a RC-64, the shipping is going to be a pain though, should be worth it then. Thanks guys! Any reputable place to buy used? I did also find a few RC-7's for cheaper than a RC-62? Would a RC-7 be ok with the RF-82?
  13. Is the 64 too much for the 82's? I dont want to overpower the Mains. Anyone wanting to send a 64 to Canada for $600?
  14. Little history for you.... Fell in love with my ProMedia 4.1, I got a couple years back, and decided I would use them for my start of a HT setup. I recently went out and wanted a bought a RC-52 to do the center work. I was then quickly wanting more, A week later I picked up a pair of RB-51's for the L/R. A week after that the local London Drugs had a massive clearout of Klipsch stock. I picked up a set of S2 for surrounds. The next day I found a RSW-10 for a great deal. Two weeks later I grabbed a set of RF-82's for 70% off, and moved the RB-51's to rear duty. There are still two ProMedia's used as heights on occasion, and this is how its been for the last three months... The issue i have found and seems to be the same for most people with RF-82's and a RC-52, is the center can't keep up. I feel like there is a blanket or pillow over the center channel when watching movies, and it distracts me from being able to enjoy the movie. I have finally been able to convince my wife to let me upgrade the center. I have been looking at the RC-3/62/64, but I do have a very limited budget. I do not want to have to spend the price of a new RC-62 ($550 shipped) if i don't have to. I guess my budget is $600 max. I am unable to audition any of them without ordering them in, and paying high restocking fees, and would have to drive about 500mi to do so. So i am going to have to go strictly by peoples experiences with them. Chad
