  1. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I have not tried the intermediate efforts and I will before committing to full replacement.
  2. I have a pair of 20+ year old Heresy IIs that sound dull even after replacing the caps. For those who have replaced drivers in the high and mid horns, has that resulted in more clean sound?
  3. I agree - hold out for a better buy than this. It won't be hard too find if you put forth an effort.
  4. I have read many of the threads discussing the limited bass output of LaScalas and I haven't found an explanation for it. If I'm covering old ground I apologize. I seems to me the elements to be considered are the enclosure, the driver and the crossover network. Could not any one or all be changed to perform the same way as Cornwals or K-horns? I like my LaScalas but I don't like having to deal with their size AND a sub to get a broader specrum of sound.
  5. I've noticed some Khorns have a riser between the upper cabinet and the base bin and thought since my 1982s don't have it that it must be a style that came along after mine. I see a pair of 1976s for sale today that have that riser so now I'm wondering if it was a custom mod or if it was an option on original sales. Does anyone know what the pattern of appearance/disappearance of the riser is?
  6. I have wondered too about how important it is to get the Khorns tight in the corner. With most speakers you find it common to angle the focal direction to create the desired dispersement or sweet spot. If you let the corners dictate this placement there is a compromise in the dispersement so - I'm sure some owners have experimented with some turning of the speaker away from the tight corner placement. Does this significantly degrade the base output?
  7. I own a pair of La Scalas in Birch Lacquered natural color. Has anyone here successfully stripped and restained these?
  8. I went back and looked again. What put me off was my package of new caps had enough for two speakers. I didn't remember that. I thought all the ones in the package were meant to go into the old board. My bad. I clipped out the old caps because I couldn't remove enough of the solder to free the leads while they were still intact. It was easier to remove the stubs from the heated solder. After that - unless I missed something the replacement went smooth and the speakers sound as good as I remember they did before. Whatever difference is subtle. I didn't have the advantage of hearing them in the same enviornment as I last heard them before the upgrade.
  9. Bought a set of capacitors from Bob Crites to install in a pair of Heresy IIs. Understand I am new at updating and repairing audio equipment. When I removed the crossover network the old caps look nothing like the ones I'm about to put it. I'm not confident that I can do this now that I have seen the inside. Is there a series of pictures somewhere that will make this project more clear?
  10. When I was in college and my interest in hifi and stereo began I saw components by Sherwood listed in the catalogs and magazines but in all the years I've never known a retailer that sold them and thus never heard an audition. Has anyone in these forums owned their products? Care to share your opinion about them?
  11. Not wanting to do anything. I own a pair of Lascalas and curious as to how that horn woofer designed. The pics you linked me to are the most revealing details I've seen but I don't understand that cut-out in the panel below the driver. It doesn't appear to open to any passage for sound to channel.
  12. I'm looking for a drawing or photo that shows the mounting and orientation of the driver in the woofer cabinet. Has anyone seen images like this?
  13. Thanks for your input. Your comments are well stated. If you don't mind entertaining the subject a little longer - what do you think of a comparison of Cornwall to Chorus?
  14. Never auditioned a Chorus or Forte but forum postings indicate those that own them are happy with them. They seem to offer a way to put a Cornwall in a smaller foot print. I use my Heresy IIs with a sub and I am happy with the their peformance. It always seems to depend on the source material. Some of the music seems rather uninteresting and then some will make me feel like I've been transported to a jazz club or concert hall. Since Klipsch still offers Heresys and Cornwalls and do not offer Chorus or Forte it gives me pause to consider if I'm better off staying with what I have or migrating to Chorus or Forte. For those readers that know the difference what is your take on comparing Heresys with Chorus and Forte?
