  1. All- Xki and I got our UPA-7's around the same time frame, so I would say about ~1 month. I've used it everyday that I have been home. I couldn't be more pleased.... I feel like I got a really great set-up for the money that I have spent. I still would like to buy a few more speakers to round out my system, but for now, I am very happy. I'm sure that you will see a used UPA-7 go up for sale in the near future. One of the best places to check out for used EMO gear is their Forum. Items usually don't last long over there. I've noticed that Xki is a regular over there, so he may know better than I. On the subject of cables, I didn't buy from blue-jeans, but I'm pretty sure that the company is using all Canare Cable. If you plan on re-wiring an entire system, it may be worth your while to purchase the canare crimper and make your own cables. I bought all of my cables, and a few months down the road my buddy was looking to rewire his system and spent about 1/2 the money I did and did much longer runs, in all different colors, etc, you get the picture. Best of luck. -BC
  2. I think that is a good deal. I had a pair of kg 2.2s a few years ago... I really enjoyed them, but I blew out 1 of the drivers and traded them away. I always wanted to get another pair....
  3. I had the quintets for 10 years before I recently upgraded, I'm not sure what you are asking, but if you could post a pic with your problem, I'm sure I could help you out.
  4. Nice- Our Border Collie name is Andy, he has been with us for about 18 months, although he is a short-haired BC. They are great dogs, but they are never short of energy...
  5. 1st Sorry to hijak your thread- Cask05- Is that your border collie in your avatar? -BC
  6. I'm not sure if I am ready to go to individual Codec's just yet, I realized today that I know very little about them, and I probably would have been able to get down to the root of all my problems, had I known a little bit. I'm not even sure what a "splitter" is and does.... I have built many computers and had a lot of success before, so I was very surprised that when I built my 1st HTPC that I would run into so many problems I had never seen, i.e. EDID and now Codecs, etc. Its mainly driven by the change in technology and the integration of consumer electronics with computers, I think that as time goes on HTPCs will become more popular (they already are a lot more than they were a year a go when I built mine) these issues will go away as things become more autonamous. You are correct about the Shark007 package though. Had it not been for many other people with my same issues, I doubt I would have ever solved my problem on my own. I am still having one small issue, but I can live with that until I can spend some more time and learn about codecs, etc.... Thanks for the link, it was informative, I may be back with more questions....
  7. I would go with the SPL meter and your ears as said before, I ran the EMOQ auto set-up today, and thought it was way off, when compared with my Radio Shack SPL meter I found it was off quite a bit. Good luck.
  8. HTPC users- Are any of you guys with HTPC's using Shark 007 codec package for HD content? I am using Shark 007 codec package to run WMC7 x64 with EMO UMC-1, I finally got all the EDID issues worked out last week, and this week was spent devoted to correcting my audio issues. I finally was able to get all the audio working on my HD content, and it was rough to get to this point. I was wondering if, anyone else was using this codec package and what their thoughts are? If they are using a similar set-up, what type of settings are they using to maxmize the sound quality out of their gear? -BC
  9. I finally got it working the way I wanted too, I had to go in and customize the buttons and re-arrange a few things, but its going good now.....
  10. just finished updating about an ~hour ago... didn't help me with my Harmony remote control issue, but it seems like it made some improvements. Anyone else with a Harmony out there and a UMC-1. I am using a Harmony 700, I also have a Harmony 510, and neither of these 2 remotes have full functionality. I could use the infared learning feature, but before I waste a bunch of time on this, I was wondering what other kind of issues people might be having.... BTW, the UMC-1 + UPA-7 is a sweet set up, I still need to get surrounds and rears (currently using my old Quintets), but I am going to hold off for a little bit. The next phase of my operation is going to be getting new furniture to hold all of my stuff, I need more depth, and I need more cord concealment....
  11. Well there was a few questions about people getting the metal remote from Emo and getting the new Emo mic, etc I sent Emo an e-mail last week asking them to transfer my warranty and asked them what I had to do to get a UMC-R. Anyways, they sent me an e-mail with a tracking number and they just sent me the UMC-R for free. Pretty good deal. I'm going to pick up my UPA-7 tonight from Fed-Ex since I missed the delivery today...
  12. Smokarz- The EDID issue was really easy for me to work through, once I knew what the issue was.... Prior to finding out what the problem was, it was like looking for a needle in a stack of needles, but once I knew I had an EDID issue, there is so much info out there to help you. Just google EDID override.... I coudn't do it on my computer b/c my old video card was an obscure ATI card that had no support, if I had Linux as my OS, I could have written my own code to override, or as I mentioned above there is even Linux code for EDID override on all ATI cards. There is a ton of EDID override software for ATI cards on AVS forum and on google. If you have an Nvidea card you should have no EDID issues. Nvidea does a great job of supporting that, and a new video card cost be $59.00 (2 days ago from BB). Since I did the firmware update to the .13 (don't have the plastic remote) .14 (for the metal remote), I am yet to see any bug that any of the other people have mentioned. It will be interesting when the next update comes out.... -BC Wuzzer- Again, It was a great transaction, and I am very happy with it so far.... Thanks again. -BC
  13. wstanger- setting up the UMC-1 itself was very easy with the OSD. Updating the firmware was easy following the instructions from online, hooking everything up and selecting inputs was very easy as well.... The worst thing for me was my EDID (handshaking) problem from my HTPC through the UMC-1. It was finally solved with buying a new video card today and downloading drivers from the website and not windows update.... Once I got that all figured out, I have to say that it is really awesome. I won't have my UPA-7 for a couple weeks I'm guessing, so for now I am using an old 2 ch amp, so I can't pass complete judgement yet, but I would venture to guess that you will be impressed. I am really looking forward to the UPA-7... -BC
  14. Xki- After a lot of reading, I finally solved the mystrey, my video card in my HTPC was not sending EDID (handshaking) and I could not find a hack/override for it, so I went to best buy this afternoon and bought an Nvidea G210 that was on sale for $59.00. It is much louder than my old ATI since that one didn't have a fan, but this card is much much better than the ATI for my application. I had to DL the drivers off Nvidea's website though b/c the ones off windows update do not have the current audio driver that is needed to carry sound. After 2 days, a lot of reading on the internet, and a lot of help from many people, I feel like I can declare victory on the UMC-1. I really like it so far, and I think I will like it even more when my UPA-7 comes.... Thanks for all the help! -BC
  15. bigTbarker- I would like to try and figure it out on my own before I break down and call them, but from what I am reading online, it looks like one would almost have to be a UMC-01 expert to mud their way through it. I will continue to dig. It has the FW 7.xxxx update, not sure what the last few numbers were, but I know its not the 19 which is supposed to come out in the next few days, I am thinking about calling EMO tomorrow and trying to get my way through it. Thanks. -BC
  16. I bought the UMC-1 from another forum member, and I got it today, The UPA-7 will ship sometime around the 15th of Feb. For now I am using a Nakamichi 420 amp and running it in 2 ch until I get the new amp. The sound so far, is awesome, it was a total game changer... it makes me want the amp even more..... I do have one problem that I am having trouble getting through.... I have an HTPC that runs a ATI Radeon 4350 video card (using HDMI out) and I can't get the picture to show up on the TV going through the UMC-1 with-out running my PC in safe-mode... Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks. BC
  17. Well, I got my RF-82's last night, my RC-62 should be here today (got delayed in shipment b/c of the ice storm), my UMC-1 should be here today (got shipped to the wrong house), and I am planning on ordering the UPA-7 this morning as well. I am very excited to get all here. This is a huge upgrade for me, b/c I went from the Quintets and spent months deciding on new speakers, I finally settled and bought them last week, based on reading a lot of the posts and everything from this forum.... So hopefully in another week, I will have most of everything. The next thing will be surround speakers and a new sub, but for now I think I will be happy....
  18. I used to live in the Chicago Burbs many years ago, and Simply Stereo is an awesome store...
  19. I'm waiting for EMO to open so I can call and order it today... My UMC-1 should be here today.....
  20. VNemeth- I just upgraded my ~10 yr old quintet system to the reference series, I used an HK AVR225 for years in that set-up. It served me well, I actually wish that it would have broke becuase it would have made the chat with my wife easier as to why I "needed" to buy all new gear.... To be honest, you don't need much to drive those speakers, if it were me, I wouldn't spend more than $500.00 on an AVR. I would just buy an Onkyo, HK, or Yamaha from Best Buy or whatever is close and on sale. I would venture to guess that many of the other forum members would suggest returning the Quintets and Sub and buying a used system that is better for about the same amount of money... -BC
  21. I have one UPA-7 on reserve, I'm pretty excited. I have to believe that as small as Emotiva is, their oplan is probably at razor thin margins.....
  22. Well, I'm sold, I am going to call Emo Friday and order it up, they told me the UPA-7 will ship 15 Feb 2011. So I hope to get that at the end of next week. I am pretty excited to get all my new gear....
  23. Gents- I should be recieving my new RF-82's, RC62, and UMC this week... I "reserved" UPA7 from EMO that they say will ship 15 Feb 2011. I think that it is a good deal, but I don't really plan on using 7.1 for awhile, I will be at 5.1 until I move to a house with more space to allow for 7.1. There is no issue if I just use the UPA7 as a 5 ch amp correct? i.e. I have nothing hooked up to 2 channels... Also, I saw that another member had the umc/upa-7... I would assume this to be a good combo since they are the same brand, but does everyone like this set-up? I have heard that 7 channel amps were just not that hot of a seller and that is why Emo was getting out of it... If I buy the UPA-7, I am going to have to wait on purchasing the RS-52's for a bit, which means that I will be using my soon to be replaced Quintets as surrounds for a bit longer... (which I'm ok w/ since until I buy an amp, I won't be able to use the UMC-1). Thanks for the help. BC
  24. Hi, I've been in and out of this forum for a few years, and I finally am starting to build a new HT system. (slowly replacing an HK AVR, Klipsch Quintet, and Infinity Sub). Today I bought the RF82's and RC62. I will continue to use my HK AVR until I decide on which processor + amp to get, and right now I'm really leaning towards the EMO gear, unless I can get a good deal on something used, and I'm not sure if I can get something better for the price. I've always been happy with the Infinity sub, so I'm not sure if I will replace that, maybe when I get the new speakers, I will be ready to replace that as well.... Anyways, If you guys were to build a new HT system would you go with the RS52's or the RB81's? My living room is currently too small for a 7.1 system, and I'm not sure if I will ever get that far, maybe... I understand that Klipsch reccomends the RS52's on their site, but at the same time, for roughly the same price, I wonder if it would be better to just have a good set of bookshelf speakers. Any thoughts or reccomendations? Thanks. -BC
  25. I've been a "lurker" on this forum for about ~7 years, and never had a whole lot to say, until today when I drove an hour + to demo the RF82's with the intention of buying them today from the closest reference dealer to me, just to find out they literally just closed their doors. They didn't even change their answering machine to say they were no longer open. I suppose I am just going to "have" to buy them from amazon.com...
