  1. I have a question about an issue raised earlier in this post. The issue concerns how much is too much for a subwoofer. If you set all of you speaker to small with a crossover of 80hz, then the subwoofer is going to produce the sound of the LFE channel ( the 0.5 ) and the sound of the front left, center, front right, 2 surrounds that is under 80 hz. Here is the quote from ironsave It is only one woofer; capable of playing only so much at once; without becoming "muddy". (a 15" sub might be more susceptible to this, it is a bigger woofer requiring more energy to keep moving). My understanding is that the main issue is that the subwoofer is designed specifically for these lower frequencies and will produce them much better than most speakers and that the main issue is about the directivity at some frequency. I can't tell the direction of the sound under 80hz, so it is all about producing the best sound in the room, not about where it is coming from and the whole HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Functions) stuff. I have never read that a subwoofer could be overloaded with too many different types of sounds ("playing so much at once"). Is this an issue or not?
  2. Get the Sony BDP-S570 ( BX57 at SAMs ) if a wired internet connection is not available. If you have a wired internet connection, get the BDP-S370 ( BX-37 at SAMs ). This player gives you Blu-Ray and internet video with services like NetFlix etc. You can get the wired BX-37 under $100 at SAMs right now.
  3. A Subwoofer with 2 - 18" Drivers? This should be illegal!
  4. The analogy about using different speaker for the Front Left and Front Right is doesn't make sense to me. Here are the Questions: Would the Timbre match for the KG 4.5s sound as good as the RC-62 II? Would the RF-82 IIs, RF-62IIs or RB-82 IIs make a difference up front with the RC-62 II center over the KG 4.5s?
  5. A high percentage of movie sound (dialogue and effects) does come from the center channel. If you want to debate the exact percentage maybe that is a separate thread. My point was that I want to use my existing tower speakers (KG 4.5) in my Home Theater, but don't want to have a center channel speaker that requires me to read lips to understand the speech during a movie. The RC-62 II is a great center channel with regard to speech intelligibility. Should I sacrifice speech intelligibility for the seamless transistion of the sound across the front 3 speakers? To get a Timber Match, I will either look for a Timbre Match for the KG 4.5s or purchase new towers to match the center. Would the Timbre match for the KG 4.5s sound as good as the RC-62 II? Would the RF-82 IIs, RF-62IIs or RB-82 IIs make a difference up front with the RC-62 II center over the KG 4.5s?
  6. Thanks for the suggestion on the "Sound Reproduction" book by Floyd Toole. I have one on order from Amazon. I am starting to understand this "Timbre Matching" thing, but still struggle with the trade off of going with at better Center with the sacrifice of not having a "Timbre Match".
  7. The 2310 is a great AVR. For the money, you can't go wrong.
  8. I am still trying to understand this whole thing about "Timbre Match" for the front speakers. First of all, if money was not an issue, then we would just buy the "top of the line' and be done. Of course, we are one the forum, so we either have limited money or would like to use it carefully. I want to spend the least amount of money, but get the best sound for my HOME THEATERS. I am using a RC-62 II center with two KG 4.5s on the front. With 90% of the sound coming out of the center during a movie, I can't figure out why the one scene where the camera pans across the front and the pitch changes from the Left front to the center to the right front is such a big deal. This doesn't happen that often. Please fill me in.
  9. Hey IronSave, Did you get a chance to give Klipsch a Call? It seems to me that someone could post the information about the recommended combinations an "Timbre Match" for these speakers. Frzninvt had posted some information as well.
  10. Is this from "DoctorProAudio.com"? If so, do you think the calcs are right?
  11. You can buy a RC-52 II, RC-62 II or RC-64II all of which will sound better than whatever custom box you create with this "match timbree". I know because I have a pair of KG 4.5s. I am running RS-62 II for my surrounds. I have both a KV-3 and a RC-62 II on an A/B switch for my center. The RC-62 II is by far the winner between the two.
  12. I have the 3311CI This receiver will do it all. The new thing in HT is using Wide Front Speakers and or Front Height Speakers. This model has a 7 channel amp so it can only do one of these two channels. If you want 9.1 or 11.1 you need to look at other models. Otherwise with the Audyssey Audio Eq system, this AVR is a great value.
  13. Hey Shake, Where are you getting the 30 Watts Per Channel? There are tests on Denon Receivers that give them much better result in terms of power than most competitors in the same price range. I think they produce only slightly less that full rated power for 5 channels.
  14. Hey Crown1, Thanks for the information and opinion on running amps at low volume. The whole "head room" idea is starting to make sense. Do you or anyone else have more information about using two center channels. One above an one below the screen. This seems Ideal to me, but I am curious is there are drawbacks.
  15. If you are not going to go with the original match for the speaker, why not purchase the latest model that is the closet match? I have a pair of KG 4.5s. I have a KV-3 and a RC-62 II on an A/B switch. The difference between the KV-3 and the RC-62 II is minor strickly on voice, but for the complete sound that comes out of a center speaker, the RC-62 II has a much deeper sound.
  16. Thanks for the information on this "power question" After reading these recent post, I am starting to understand the "head room" argument. Seems to me you need to use these calculations based on speaker efficiency and room size to get a minimum and then add a boat load of power for head room to suit you budget. This forum rocks
  17. I have a pair of KG 4.5 and wanted a match. I purchased a pair on ebay, but would still like to know if anyone know the Original MSRP.
  18. I have a pair of KG 4.5s that I purchased new in December of 1996. They are in mint condition and still sound great. I am now working on a Home Theater speaker system and started with these two towers. I have purchased two RS-62 II Surrounds and a subwoofer (ed A5-350 which is a 15" woofer with 500 watts of power) I just purchased a RC-62 II new and a KV-3 on ebay to compare the two. The RC-62 II is superior in the overall sound, but the difference in the voice during movies is marginal. I am not sure this 'Timbre Match' thing is really what is is made out to be. I recomment the RC-62 II.
  19. How does having 3 Towers compare to having 2 Towers and a center. The cost is slightly more for the 3 Towers, but aren't the center channels designed for the dialog portion of Movies.
  20. Does anyone know the original MSRP of a Klipsch KV3 center channel. There is one on ebay that say it was $799. This seems high.
  21. How much power are you planning to push to these two 18" woofers? Also, have you removed all of the pictures hanging on your walls?
  22. Just got thru watch some scene of the DARK KNIGHT with my ED A5-350 vibrating my whole body. 15" is the way to go.
  23. Does anyone know the Original Retail Price for a Klipsch KV3?
  24. The RC-7 and the RF-7 used the EXACT same tweeter. Is there an exact match for the RC-64 II?
  25. Does anyone have any experience using Audyssey DSX to create a Front Wide or a Front Height Channel for their Home Theater?
