I was going to get the Sony STR-V555ES but a lot of people are saying that it hisses A LOT. So, now I decided to get some other receiver. I was reading some user reviews of this receiver. I noticed that some were saying that there is hissing at certain volumes. Is this true? Well, GeForce cards are pretty bad at playing DVDs. They use software DVD decoding and that stresses the CPU a lot. The Radeon has hardware DVD decoding, and currently the Radeon has the BEST DVD playback on the PC and does not need a decoder card. I would seriously consider building a computer. That way, it will be easier for you to know what and how to upgrade later on since you will know EXACTLY what is inside your computer. Secondly, get the AMD Athlon processor. It has the BEST price/performance ratio and plus, an Athlon 1.4GHz beats/outperforms a Pentium 4 1.8GHz. If you really want high-end/top-of-the-line performance, get the AMD Athlon MP. It has the Palomino core and 3DNow! Pro and lets off less heat. Some people are saying that you need a "HDTV ready" TV to "use" Progressive Scan. Is this true? I (will) have a Sony 34" WEGA TV (not XBR) with the Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD player, will Progressive Scan work?

Anyway, I think the setup should serve me fine. By the way, I will NEED a receiver, right? My DVD player will only output the sound to the receiver and the receiver will send out the signal to the speakers, right?
