  1. Thanks. I managed to get it off with my father's help. We used a small pair of scissors to pry loose the grip of the connector and it came off. However, the new driver is slightly a different color/shade than the original driver. Is this something to worry about or is it normal? Lastly, the driver that was replaced due to it buzzing at certain frequencies, actually buzzes/rattles when I tap the woofer or the rubber surrounding of the woofer. Any explaination for this? Is it actually blown or is something just loose?
  2. Just noticed that the replacement woofer is of a slightly different shade/color than the original woofers. Cause of any concern or is this normal?
  3. I removed one of the two internal driver connectors (the larger one with the red wire). The smaller one with the black wire doesn't seem to want to come off. I've tried with some force even and it still doesn't want to come off. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get it off?
  4. I ended up buying the K-1083-SV (because that is what is currently inside my RC-7) from the following Web site: http://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/brands/klipsch-rc-7-8-speaker/ Soon after I placed my order, the Web site states that this driver is not available anymore and is replaced by K-1083-SB. Seems like I bought the last one and more won't be available. Lucky me! [H]
  5. Did some testing and it appears to be/sound fine. I guess I have nothing to worry about? [:^)]
  6. Finally got a chance to open-up my RC-7 and have a look inside. The driver currently in my RC-7 that needs to be replaced is labeded K-1083-SV. My local Klipsch dealer can only get me the K-1083-SB. Nothing to worry about, right?
  7. I was cleaning my speakers today and noticed (when cleaning the woofers) that the bottom woofer on my left RF-7 seems to start scratching quite a bit earlier when I push on it compared to the rest of the woofers on both of my RF-7s. I've been told that if a woofer scratches when you push on it, it is generally blown. All of the woofers scratch when you push deeply on them but if you push gently, non of them really scratch other than the bottom woofer of my left RF-7. I don't think I hear anything odd from that bottom woofer of the left RF-7 but it just concerns me. I will test it tomorrow.
  8. Awesome! Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just get whatever the model number is of the driver I am replacing.
  9. I found the driver for the RC-7: http://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/brands/klipsch-rc-7-8-speaker/ However, in the picture of the driver on that Web site it says "K-1083-SV" but on the Klipsch Web site it says "K-1083-SB" in the specs section for the RC-7. Which is right? The link I posted in the post before this one says it is for the RF-3. However, in the picture of the driver, it says "K-1083-SB" on it just like what it says in the specs section for the RC-7 on the Klipsch Web site.
  10. Thanks. Is this the driver I am looking for?: http://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/brands/klipsch-rf3-k-1083-8-woofer/
  11. I think you mean K-1083-SB? By the way, the woofers in the RC-7, RF-3, RF-3 II, and RF-5 are all the same?
  12. Klipsch Parts department has an e-mail address and I would forward them your dealer correspondence with a header "Please Help--I love my RC-7!" It probably could hurt to let them know you are a Forum contributor. Yeah, I did end up e-mailing the Parts Department. However, my e-mail was a little more formal than what you suggested. [:|] []
  13. Just sent an e-mail to the Parts Department. Lets see what they say.
  14. I prefer to buy new whenever possible. So there is no point in contacting the Parts Department myself to make sure about the discontinuation? By the way, is this the driver?: http://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/brands/klipsch-rf3-k-1083-8-woofer/
  15. Please have a look at this thread: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/169337.aspx Basically, I have to replace the right woofer/driver on my RC-7 because it buzzes at certain frequencies. When I e-mailed my local Klipsch dealer, they said that they didn't have the RC-7 driver in stock and would have to check with the factory. Then they got back to me today and said that the supply of this driver is deplete and is no longer in supply. Is this true? What can I do? Should I contact the Parts Department directly even though I am not in the US? Have they really stopped making these drivers?

  17. Yeah, I meant sounds that sound distorted regardless of the volume. In War of the Worlds when the first pod blows its horn, it sounds all distorted regardless of the volume. I just wanted to know if it is recorded in the movie distorted, does it harm speakers.
  18. Just wondering if distortion in movies is bad for speakers. When I say distortion, I am talking about stuff such as when the first pod in War of the Worlds comes out of the ground and blows its horn.
  19. I would say that was almost certainly your case. When you had it turned way up, did you hear anything that sounded like it could be potentially damaging the speakers? I don't think I noticed too much other than compression and a harsher/brighter sound. I've noticed that harshness/brightness increases as I increase the volume. So, is that due to clipping? What, exactly, does clipping sound like?

  21. Thanks. Guess I'll wait till I can get separate amplifier before turning up the volume that high again. However, is it possible to blow speakers/drivers by overpowering them (without clipping) just like when you underpower them (with clipping)? What are the symptoms of overpowering a speaker? Secondly, is it safe to say that I blew the driver on the RC-7 because I reached the limits of my A/V receiver rather than the limits of the speaker?
  22. By the way, any guesses as to what led the driver to be blown? I've owned these speakers (bought new) since 2004 and have been powering them with my A/V receiver that outputs around 110 watts x 5 the whole time. I've been quite adventurous with the volume control during movies and music (even played some parts of movies above reference level for short periods of time). Was it clipping that damaged the RC-7? The rest of the speakers seem to be fine despite my "abuse." However, I've been told that clipping is only harmful if you clip an amplifier that is more powerful that the power handling capability of the speaker. For example, clipping a 200 watt amplifier with a 100 watt speaker will damage it but clipping a 100 watt amplifier with a 200 watt speaker with not damage it. Any comments/opinions on this?
  23. Thanks. By swap I meant swapping the the left and right drivers on the RC-7 to see if the problem stays with the same driver. I didn't mean replacing both drivers on the RC-7.
