  1. Hi All, Woke up this morning to find the rubber surrounds on both of my RP-160M drivers torn because of two four-legged monsters. I'm trying to find out how to go about buying new drivers for both speakers. I'm not sure whether I'll repair these and box them up, or figure out a better way to cat proof them.
  2. Nice set-up! Thanks for the info on the non discrete height channel. I've actually come across a few blu ray rentals that default to 7.1 DTS and wondered if that routed the additional channels to wide/high/rear speakers. Not having those speakers avilable...I never researched it further. The surounds and back speakers are all about 12" off the floor...but that was more to get the horns up to ear level. I've been kind of partial to keeping the fronts on the floor for bass response, since all of my music listening is in two channel with no sub. Which I have to say...has sounded surprising better than I would have antisipated from a pair of 1981 Heresy I's that aren't known for their outstanding low end. Though I suppose the receiver would have something to do with that as well (Pioneer SC-65)... [] What could expected sound wise by getting them off the floor? Thanks, Walt
  3. After moving the II's to the gym andhaving the pleasure of listening to them by themselves with that set up...I'm going to sit on everything for now. The finish on the I's is beautiful...and I don't think I could live with myself if I let em go over the $350 that I don't have. I'll find a way to make up the short coming in cash flow. Thanks, Walt [Y]
  4. Well this is what it looks like with the RS-3's hung high. For the moment...the H II's have been moved to the gym. Can't wait to test this set-up tonight with a Blu Ray disc... []
  5. I've got a For Sale thread in the Garage section where I'm looking to thin out the newly expanded herd of Heresy's. This picture below shows how the right side of the room sits right now with the dark cabinet I being pulled to a position behind my chair for movies. But I'm considering a configuration that might resemble this as well as mounting a pair of RS-3's as High Fronts. My question regarding the RS-3's is how high off the floor should they be mounted, and how wide in reference to my main front speakers? This of course would be worst case scenario where I end up holding on to the four pair of Heresy's (3 I's and 1 II's) [^o)] Thanks, Walt
  6. At this very moment the center is one of the HBR I's that I just picked up. I just swapped out the II and the I slid right into place, though I had to change the wire teminations from banana's to spades. I haven't run the receiver's MCACC since the swap. The surronds are 76 HBR Decorators.
  7. One more...I's left and center...II on the right
  8. I'm in a conundrum here as I picked up a pair of Heresy I's the other day, not really needing them...but having poor impulse control. I thought that they would better match the other 2 pairs of I's that I have in my HT set-up...but the idea was that I would need to part with the 86 Heresy II's that I already had in my set-up (3 pair...running 6.1) However...I had become raher fond of the II's (I'm finding now) but still need to part with "some" Heresy goodness. So...I'm going to put all 4 speakers up to choose from. I's or II's single or pair...though I won't sell 3 or both pairs. Basically I'll let go of a single or a matched pair. Either pair $350...or a single for $175. The II's are 1986, black finish that have no dings or dents...but the finish could be redone if somebody wants perfection. The I's are maybe 85's? Serial 8540111 and 8540105 HBR that if they weren't stained at the factory...it's the best refinish I've seen. The shipping labels on the boxes indicate Rottingham...and I believe these went to somebody on a miltary base. Both speakers are pretty much near perfect with a raw perhaps walnut finish to them. I'm becomming more and more fond of these cabinets very quickly...and already have them hooked up in my system. I'm already thinking of how I could keep all of them and utilize a pair for either Wide or Back channels since my receiver will drive up to 9.2 (Pioneer SC-65). They're a little big to use as High Fronts...[^o)] I'm located in RI Thanks...Walt
  9. At the moment, it's 5.1...and GROWING []
  10. Looks like I don't need to decide to keep this or not. Glad it's going to a forum member [Y] Walt
  11. I agree 100%. SELLING quality equipment doesn't make sence when I try to wrap my head around it. But my income doesn't warrant my being able to justify being able to hold on to items that I may use down the road. I'm only sitting on the RS-3's because I can realistically see my self adding them to my HT at some point. There's a member that has expresssed some interest in this speaker already. If they change their mind...I'll be back at the sell or keep decision again.
  12. Bump Not exactly sure what the market value is on this, so will entertain reasonable offers. I'm kind of right on that edge of sell or keep... Thanks! Walt
  13. Was able to find pressed felt dust caps (like the original) from Simply Speaker. I've got 2 of them (good to have another on hand) and adhesive on the way. It's actually a 4 1/2" dust cap on the driver measuring to the outside edges of the lip. A 4" would have worked if I was to glue one cap on top of the other...but I'm going to try and cut as much of the damaged one off as possible, and glue lip/lip [] Walt
  14. As much as I would like to hold onto this, I can't justify it after spending money I didn't have to spend. I swapped this out as my center channel with a Heresy. I'm the original owner and have all of the original packaging and paperwork, if it needs to be shipped. When I say the speaker is immaculate...I mean that there isn't a mark on the cabinet or grill. I'm throwing in the 8' MITerminator 4 cable (not bi-wireed) that I used, to connect it to my receiver (bananas to spades). It's a great speaker for a center or single back channel. I never would have thought of swapping it out if it weren't for other members brainwashing me that I HAD TO have another Heresy to match my fronts. The Coke can is just for size reference. Though I'll gladly throw in a FULL Unopened Can to whoever buys this package. I'm asking $150 and I'm located in RI. Thanks! Walt
  15. I wish I could get my drums sold quick enough to get me the money to grab these. A pair of LaScalas have always been my ultimate dream.Distance isn'ta big deal to me. Walt
  16. Since I have an additional Heresy that's not being utilized in my HT as a permanent placement...I'm considering implementing it in an as needed configuration. I'm thinking of placing it where it should be, if it were located properly behind my seating position (which puts it basically into my dining room since I'm not moving the furniture)...running the MCACC, and then tucking it out of the way when I don't need it (if not needing it isn't blaphamous). Thoughts? Walt
  17. Yeah...I'll go with the black lacquer to do this properly. Unfortunately...it appears (from what I've been able to google) that lacquer should be sprayed for the best finish. I'm not sure how I feel about spray painting an entire cabinet in my apartment during the winter months. Though it's not entirerly out of the question...yet. Thanks, Walt
  18. That is a 4" dust cap.on the driver. The horns and driver are on a shelf in the closet for now, since I'm trying to improve (inlue of refinish?) the finish on the cabinet....which has been sidelined due to wanting to use black laquer, which apparently is best done as a spray application. Using canned spray in my apartment is not something I want to undertake just this moment. When I'm a little more ambitious...I'll attempt to remove as much of the old cap as possible, if only for my own satisfaction that I've done as much as I possibly could to do the job properly. [] Walt
  19. So I may need to sand a little bit more to get through the veneer sealer?
  20. The center is pretty much in line with the inside corners of my fronts, which pretty much creates a gentle arc directing the the sound at my listening position. I'm using a Velodyne HGS-12 for my sub, in a room that's roughly 14' wide by 16' long. No lack of base in this set-up. The Pioneer MCACC actually set the sub output gain to -12 db with the onboard sub output set at less than a 1/3rd power. With 6 Heresy's and the RS-3's that used to be my surrounds...I'm brain storming a new set-up for the furniture in the living room. [*-)]
  21. Well I got over zealous in trying to remove some scratches and such from the cabinets black finish. I "thought" no big deal...I'm just going to need to do a couple more coats of stain (or...worst case, I paint the cabinets). Well after several attempts to stain the patch(s) back to their original black color...the stain darkens everything but the sand through spots. There's still grain showing, so I didn't think that I had hit the glue in the veneer. Should I just stop wasting my time and grab a small can of black paint? And if I paint...am I going to need to adhere to some finishing guideline, other than "apply paint, and allow to dry"? Thanks, Walt
  22. Thanks for everybodies input. I feel confident enough as far as glueing a new dust cap in place. Removing the old dust cap...not so much. I guess if I was talking about I high frequency driver, this would be more crucial...but doesn't glueing a new cap over the existing effect the speaker in some way? Thanks, Walt
  23. Well, after finding an incredible deal on a pair of H2's...I've got a messed up dust cap on one of the woofers. It looks like the previous owner may have let kitty get too close to one of the speakers without a grill. There's no damage to the cone at all, and this picture is actually after I cleaned up some shredded fibers on the dust cap. It's damaged enough that I could poke my finger through it without much effort. I've got this particular speaker (H2) in pieces at the moment, while I'm staining the cabinet. I've never done any actual speaker repair before, but it appears that I can pick up a new dust cap and fix this problem. The other option would be to keep my eye out for a K24 driver to swap out. But...if I were to go down that path, I'm considering just making the move to Crites drivers instead. Looking for thoughts and suggestions. I have plenty of time to work on this H2 since it's not being used at the moment. I think this is actually a K24K(?). Oh...less I forget...I'm curious where I can pick up replacement gaskets for when I put everything back together. (x2) Thanks, Walt
  24. I didn't have the money to do it...but found a way (it was a deal I couldn't pass up). I think I really pushed the limits of the center channel shelf. I just finished watching Ice Age Continental Drift on Blue Ray. Absolutely Amazing! I got a little creative with the badge... [] I'm working on cleaning up the finish, replacing the gaskets and whatever else is needed on the unused speaker. Then I'll swap them to do the same to this one. They've got black finish, so I'm not as concerned with the littlest details like the HOL's and HDBR's. I never in a million years, dreamed that I'd have 6 Heresy's to play with... [] Thank you to everybody for pushing me in this direction. I don't think that I could be happier [Y] Walt
