  1. TF:

All of my tube amps (ST-70 and Scott 299c) and speakers (Heritage) are not banana plug capable.

This is where the size and type of the spade connectors comes into play. The barrier straps are narrow and the cheap connectors I'm using don't like to be bent, pinched, or re-sized in anyway.

Thanks for the De-Oxit tip. I've used it in the pots on my Scott 299c but never thought of using it with connectors and wiring.

  2. Just wondering what all you "Network" building and speaker cable gurus are using.

Size? Type (soldered/Crimped)? Source? tools used for crimping?

I've been trying to make the "Electrical" spade connectors work but I'm sure there is a better product out there then these. The ones I'm talking about come in different colors for different gauge wire, (Blue, yellow, etc) They are thin, flimsy and just don't seem to make a good compression fit. (or maybe I just not doing it correctly and/or using inferior tools).

    Thanks

  3. With some careful planning and a lot of blankets, you shouldn't have any trouble.

One good thing about U-Haul trailers is that they are low to the ground and will offer you more room to shift things around once inside. Trying to Shoe-Horn K-Horns into a vehicle can be trying and frustrating. (You will still need a lot of blankets etc)

    Good Luck!!

The Women's Hockey loss was tough to take but I watched all the games for there was added interest.

A local woman, from a small town of 600 called Siren, WI, was skating in her 2nd Olympics. Her Collegiate Hockey was played at the Unv of WI-Madison

    Way to go Molly!!!!!

  5. TV!!??!!

There's no TV in a 2 channel set-up!!! They just get in the way!! [;)]

Plus, I still haven't found the right cable to get the video portion of my LP's to work

    JJ

OK, it's crude, but I'm a dude. I use the Onkyo as 2-channel AND 5.1 amplifier. The white MWMs clones have their own power amps with active rolloff at 180 Hz. the rest of the horns are all passive. Center and rears only used for movies, as are the Khorn bass bin clones in the hallway (used as EQ'd subwoofers).

Dude, with all that......time to get a larger TV! Wink

  6. I'm currently running a ST-70 (point to point mod by Craig) and a JM-Blueberry Pre with my Belles. I think it's a very good match.

I've also ran the ST-70 with a JM-Peach Pre with my K-Horns. Also a good match but I'm now running the K-Horns with a Scott 299c.

I would say go for it!!!!! You may have to experiment with different Pre's just in case you don't get the WOW factor you are looking/hoping for.

    Thanks

Who was it that you purchased the Cleaning machine from on Agon?

Was it Quest for Sound in Bensalem?

The price you paid brings it a little closer to my price range for I'm torn between a manual system (Record Doctor III) and the VPI 16.5.

There's about a $200 price difference between the two and I want to guard against the "Buyers Remorse" of not going to a more Automated cleaning process.

My collection is rather small (approx 125lps) and grows at a snails pace so I could get by with a manual unit.

    ARGHH!!

I hate these type of decisions.

    Thanks

  8. I'm not too sure either, but I think that there are two pieces to the puzzle: 1. Hardware (Glasses emitter) 2. Software (Drivers, renderer's, etc).

The Samsung manual only shows how to configure a PC for 3D playback but there must be other ways.

If there is a way to install a software program (Which comes with the starter pack referenced on the above mentioned URL) on the PS3 I think we will be in business.

Sony will probably or may already have, something in the works for 3D playback.

Please share what you find out after you speak to Samsung.

    Thanks

  9. Thanks Larry. You and Artto are correct I think and your rule of thumb works for me. Just now ordered a new quad of 12ax7s for the front end. Gold pin Electro Harmonix. Phono section had a Peavey in place which I switched out for a Telefunken.

    Tarheel:

Where did you buy the 12ax7's?

    Thanks

I strongly recommend/suggest/ that you take Kevin up on his offer.

I've had the honor and privilege to audition his set-up a couple of times and his Altec modded K-horns have to be heard to be appreciated. Since I have a pair of K-Horns, it didn't take too long to notice the HUGE improvement that the Altec driver/horn make compared to my K-Horns.

Kevin also has a great selection of tube amps so if you haven't heard tubes before, you are in for a treat.

We all know that the speakers and the amplification are only 1 piece to the puzzle; you still need a proper room to make it all come together. I can't begin to describe in words Kevin's listening room (I can't find the forum post with the pictures). You just have to experience it yourself to appreciate the hard work and planning that was done to make everything just right.

Make the trip...you'll be glad you did.

    JJ

P.S. Your newly painted Altec's look excellent and bet it adds a nice touch to your listening room decor.
