  1. Looks good down there with all that wood! I like it. Well I hope you don't get rid of it. Horn sub won't be near as pretty to look at for sure. Although I'm sure someone is gonna post a pic of a high gloss black one that is pretty lol. Well I am glad either way this baby went to a good home. If you decide to do the theater room then this one can go in there if you like the horn better. Mine are all up and running and a review as well as a minor build thread is coming soon

Oh the svs is not going to be for sale, it's a great sub! I have zero complaints with it and it sounds great with everything I played. And you are right it is a fantastic looking sub, the wood looks so nice. I'll take some better pictures of it this weekend because those pictures sort of suck, lol.

Yeah I bet that Carl guy comes in here and posts some pictures of his pretty black sub before long, that show off. Seriously though, that sub is the one that made me want to have one built, it's a stunner for sure. Carl why did you have to show that to me?[6]

  2. Well I finally got around to taking a few pictures of my basement-workshop stereo set up. As I said earlier I have it hooked up to a Scott 299d that Craig did for me a few months back and it's hooked up to a couple of Denon cd players and a Technics SL 1200 turntable. The receiver on the speaker is a Concept 11.0 that I use whenever I want to listen to the radio, but that's not very often.

And to everyone that's suggesting a horn loaded sub I'm on the process of having one of those built by my wifes brother as soon as I figure out which one to I'd like to try out. But I don't think this one will be going anywhere soon as I can use it somewhere else in the house if I like the horn loaded one better.
I hope these pictures turn out on here, I tried earlier and it cut half of them off so I resized them and hope it worked. Well I see it still cut off some of the picture but oh well, I'm not smart enought to post pics on here it looks like, lol.[Y]

  3. Hey Cameron,

We had a wonderful day, really nice drive and Scrappydue is a super nice guy! I am using the center on the Scott, not sure if that's the best way to hook it up but it seems to work great. I thought after the Sunfire bit the dust that I could just live without one but after a week I was on the hunt. I know what you mean about noticing the sub and I don't notice this one like I did with the Sunfire. I think the upper bass is more musical with this one, it really blends in well. If you ever want to drive down to Cape Fair, just hop in the car come down and you can play with this one to your hearts content. I'd love to have you come down! And yes you might need two to go along with your systems, one thing is for sure two would for sure fill in the bass!

  4. HI, I HAVE A COUPLE OF THESE AND THEY PLAY GREAT MUSIC. YOUR ASKING PRICE MAY BE A LITTLE HIGH??? GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SALE> TRA

I've always found the private messages work the best for negotiations, a lot of people will be put off by knocking someones price in the for sale thread. And he did say asking price in the original post, have you sent him a message with your offer? Good luck with your purchase.
  5. Steven,

I've been home for a few hours and it's just fantastic, and so darned pretty! I'll post pictures of the set up once I get things in order. I love your theater very much and now my wife wants one, I'm totally shocked.... she's very hard to impress. I have to admit that screen is so cool in so many ways, I like that you can hide speakers behind it. It's looking like the pool table is coming down and the theater is going to be coming in the near future, I never imagined that I would ever want one but that giant screen is just to cool not to do it. Thank you for you for showing me your gear, it really did make my day!

  6. Thanks guys for the suggestions. I'm probably not looking to build anything myself, but my wifes brother is a cabinet builder so I think he could probably build one. It would have to be a very simple build for me to ever attempt to tackle something like that. I was wondering thought on those diy subs is there some sort of crossover to filter out the highs? I sort of like the simplicity of just driving up and buying scrappydue's SVS, I'm sort of lazy like that, lol. Do you guys have any opinions on what type of sub is the most musical, I'll never use it for movies, only music.

Carl that sub is stunning, you did a fantastic job on it! That thing looks like glass, very pretty.

  7. I was hoping for some help on picking out a subwoofer for some La Scalas. I was using a Sunfire mkII and it's woofer bit the dust last week so I guess I'm in the market for a good sub. I'd like to keep it around the 1500 dollar make if at all possible, but would like to get something good enought that I'm not looking to upgrade to soon. I use them with a Scott 299d most of the time but sometimes I use a bryston 4b and I'm afraid they might leave some subs in the dust when I'm using it. Any personal experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for and advice,
    Rusty

  8. Thanks Fastslappy for sending the message to him. Seems fair enought if he will take them back after you try them. Someone need to try them and test the results. I know the wooden horns I bought for the mids on la scalas was a great upgrade and ti's very easy to hear the difference in the sound.

  9. Dean I can't remember what I had mine set on or I would have responded. I moved them into my la scalas until I can buy something for them and didn't pay attention to where I had them set. I do know after I installed the crites tweeters in them I had to move the loudness up a notch or two on the setting for the tweeters because they seemed a bit more layed back.

  10. Thanks, I thought they were pretty nice, not really beat up at all. There's a few scuffs here and there but nothing much as far as gouges, and the trim is in good shape. But the most important thing is they sound very nice and really have a lot of punch to them.

  11. Hi Guys, I picked up a pair of La Scalas but I'm not sure how to
read these date codes. Really to me none of them look like letters,
but maybe there is a letter there? Anyway here's a couple pictures and
any help would be appreciated. If it's any help they have the round
magnet tweeters. Also here's a picture of them. And sorry the room
looks like a tornado hit it, I didn't have time to tidy up.[:D]

    Thanks,

    Rusty

  12. I've bought three pairs from craigslist and all were out of town. I've bought Heresy's, Quartets and Cornwalls, all were great deals and minty speakers. But I did talk to each of them on the phone before I made the drive.
