  1. thanks. most listen to jazz, vocal, and some classic at modest level, pop. 12*18 room.
  2. thanks. scott may be a good idea. but i just wanna avoid vintage. modern product give me more confidence. since i have zero knowledge on how to repair it.
  3. some Cav50 in audiogon looks great. but also cann't forget the magic of SET. and i can find a bargain on a jolida 300B. unfortuntely, i don't have chance to listen to either one. the only tube experience is jolida 202. it is not super, but very musical. also found fatty on bottom. i was told that almost all el34 has problem on bottom. how do u guys think? most listen to jazz, vocal, and some classic, pop. 12*18 room.
  4. the latter one was said for high gain amp. what' s that means? which one is better? thanks
  5. Yankee, what amp. u used for the RB-5?
  6. tube seems more pop here than SS. but if let u select one out of these two for klipsch RB-5, which one is more favorable? thanks
  7. thank u guys. speed3: i prefer intergrated tube other than pre+amp. two Zen is beyoned my budget. if i increse it, i will prefer some higher grade in sencond hand. deang: i already read that review lots of times and ur post on RB-5's curve of impedence before, and get the impression that the SET maynot be good for the RB-5. all i want is music. read a lot of story of SET, and know the klipsch is much more SET-friendy than other brands. just cann't give up the idea to try them, although i know the match between speaker and amp. is more important. unfortunetly, i have no chance to listen to the set on my RB-5, hard to make decision to spend money on risk of SET. so back here to seek final comfirmation from ur experts. now, most possibly, i will go for PP. as regard of jolida 102B and 202A, why did u say the EL84 may be more musical than the EL34? it is general rule or just specific case in jolida? totally no idea about the performance of dif tubes. i favor the second hand. but the 102B seems not be available easily on ebay and audiogon.
  8. finally, i narrow to these two tube gear. both of them within my budget. also read some discussion on audioasylum, but no comparion based on RB-5. wanna seek views from ur real experts on klipsch here. my listenning room is quite small, around 13*11. music: jazz vocol, classic, which one, u believe is better match? BTW: for the Zen, its manuel says it is better for the 4o load. but the RB-5 is 8o. not sure whether it will work well with RB-5?
  9. thanks mobile. since i can buy a builded ella with tubes(around 530$), so ask u to do such comparing. after some study (just study, cann't listen:-( , i finally give up the SET 300B to match my RB-5. the EL34 intergrated looks a better choise, with more power and less budget.
  10. mobil, how is this jolida 302 comparing with the Bille Ella kit(EL34)?
  11. thank you guys! i am in NY city. i still have no HF-81 on hand. cos need to figure out how much it will cost to get a workable one. if it cost too high, i prefer to get a new one, maybe 300B intergrated amp. craig, if i really get one, will check with u firstly. thanks
  12. i have the RB-5, and think of getting a reasonable priced tube for it. where i can get it rebuilded it if i get one HF81 which doesn't work? since i have zero DIY ability on tubes. is the HF81 a good match with RB-5II comparing other tube gear? like DIY billie's 300B monoblock or other 1000$ 300B based tube? since it was said the 300B is the best match with klipsch.

  14. try kimber 4TC. it is better than the MIT IN MY SYSTEM. RB-5, denon 3801, and sony SCD-C555ES. i came to MIT T2 biwire firstly. but i found it sounds liveless. although there is no harsh no high, but the music sounds lacking of passion or mood. so i change to kimber 4TC. a big difference. more detail and attack. music come to live.(Jazz and classic) i feel a little bit confused, since my system should be a little bit bright, so the MIT maybe works, and lots of vertain says kimber is lean to bright. but my personel impression is kimber is better. so the deadline is let ur ear leading.
