  1. Thanks Yeah, since that pic, I've added a Philco model 60 and zenith transoceanic by the crosley for company. I need to get on the philco, needs lots of work. Update on the RS db meter. Wife was able to ck out the calibration device they use on thier db meter before going out in the field. Bruel&Kjaer.(German made). The calibration device is a small square where the nose of the RS unit went right in and docked. Maybe some standardization there? Wife said that is correct. Two test ouput tones are at 94db +- .20db and 20db's above that at 114db. RS unit was right on at the 94 db. I did it 10 times. Now at 114, the RS unit measured 112. Not bad I thought for the price. Bryan
  2. Sorry Fini and Mallet, I type spontaneously are re read later. My forte is not the english language as evident and I'm lazy in ck'n. So??? I will re read my post and then catch it. SOrry if it is too late for you sticklers:) Dave, (Mallet), don't get your last post. I was referring to the other gent in the relatively small listening room who said 100 db does him no harm.? Oh well, time to receed for a couple months and catch you all on the flip side as they say:) I do enjoy this forum the most of all. So many tastes and strong opinions. Bryan
  3. I do not know .....f. This was a typo upon re reading upon posting. I do not curse or immply or write this. Do not take it as some kind of statement. BryanJ
  4. Yeah.....f, ok, no problem on this end. This is my room. Lots of space and since this pic was taken a nice 12' sub. I'll get the camera out to update. 5. You will lose some hearing if you continue at 100db in a small room for sure unless your alter person is Superman. Great equip list but if the room is too small? Overkill? Does the music not need to breathe like a fine wine? My room is 20x16X20 I took my RS meter to work today and sure enough, my workhorse drill puts out 101db's. Oh well, I've done this now for 13 years, not deaf yet but have lost alot of the highs I know:) Fini, is that you, well I saved some white "crud" from my geriatric people just for you....hahah just kiddn' You mention Cabbage rolls. I assume they are tasty?? I'm an open kind of person, do they sell these in a deli?
  6. I still think our RS unit does what we need it to! I'll let you all know how it goes against the German unit if the wife indeed can check it out like she says. As far as calibration, they have thier own unit which produces decbel's of known value to calibrate to. Have a good evening all and a good dinner!! Bryan
  7. No apologies needed Mallet. I've come to enjoy this forum the most and will input the most since becoming a La Scala owner. We all come from all venues which is most interesting to myself. These Flight engineers/mechanics already have thier own "dogma" or "Objectives" My wife(industrial hygienist) is there to teach the best she can to people who only have a rudementry inkling of what is going to be said. So take it with those grains of proverbial salt and then put the salt on a nice ripe tomato and enjoy. I know I do:) Great forum and keep your hat on! I do!!! Bryan forgive all spelling and grammar, I'm a bad boy!!or was back then:)!!
  8. Mallet, you must understand, my wife is lecturing to NASA Flight/aircraft mechanics, not PHD's or Doctors. I am a DDS Doctor and that point you made came from left field I thought? We are not stringent Aerospace eng's with great skills in tech writing as my dad was for NASA. She has to make her "Objective" exactly what you said "Ouch" to. The way is it is there. They are most grateful for her visits since it puts the EL Paso hangar up to date with Houston's Johnson's, and Calif's JPL ect. I think when the class has not an inkling of what your are talking about, which is usually the case, Yes "To Understand" the basics is an objective I can "define" topics all day long but when you meld the information with the "REAL WORLD" and real time situations with the captive audience, then you have a teacher and not just defintions that go in one ear and out the other. The students now have neural traces that cross link to thier own experiences. Hope that comes through ok? I gave only an outline she had on my laptop, I'll ask her if she cares to "elaborate". Wife said my new RS digital was a "TOY"!! compared to her German made unit:( She said she could ck one out which I might have to compare the readings . I saw the same RS unit calibration sites on a search. Dr BMJANOS:)
  9. Thought this was a little informative. It was one of the wifes training outlines. Has some general info on db. Bryan Hearing Conservation Program Syllabus.txt
  10. Went by the local Rat Shack. Nice digital decibel meter for 49 bucks. Real nice. Fini.....that's right,,,,where's my cane and I'll show you what for you young whipper snapper(as I wipe the white crud from the edges of my mouth),,,,, Let me "tell" you....back in my day......
  11. A real great looker. Allan is this to be a daily driver or the weekend car? Is this a mid life kind of treat!!! Get yourself the matchbox model for now and make the engine sounds. That's probably what I'd do:) I pass by the local Hummer dealership on the way to work and see the bright yellow one on the stand and wonder...what if? Na. Craig you out there....need some input on where you get the good old carbon resistors in an assortment in diff wattages. Alright on the colab of you and Kelly. Thumbs up with smile. Bjanos
  12. Tinnitus is very common among earphone/headset wearing or repetitive high volume "tube" stereo listeners. I have it due to my occupation. My wife many times has tried to get me to wear ear protection but then I could not hear the timbre differences between solid tooth matter and decay. The wife is an "industrial hygienist". She deals with decibels, picograms, and rocket fuel vapors and oodles of paper work for Honeywell/NASA. I've got my La Scala's at about 40 watts to permeate the lower level. It is a real affliction so people beware. It will drive some crazy hearing the buzz that tinnitus gives when all is quiet and that is all you can hear. I'm fortunate that it just kind is normal to me. If you have any detailed questions I could ask the MRS for you. Bryan
  13. Don't know if this might help, but in the past when I have dented paper cones or the kids got too curious, I used a vacum cleaner with my hand over the exhaust to kind of regulate the suction to pop it back into shape??? Not familiar with the material your dealing with but thought any possiblity would be welcome.
  14. Seems I have a dopple Ganger??? Wow! Jbryan,,,,bryanj???????????????/ Not much going on with me. I do use my Sherwood 20w/channel and center out for most of my listening on the La Scalas. One Eico drives my computer speakers!!!! My other Eico is kind of in "Sainthood" all repaired and awaiting a misson. Looked over the board and MH is leaving? Well, you know we all leave but come back for a visit:)! BryanJ
