  1. Just purchased a set of RS-7 from sounddistributors.com and there is no usual Gold/Black Klipsch sticker on the back that has the inspected by signature or the serial #. I know the RS-7 come with this sticker because I saw a pair like this. It has the monster wiring sticker and then a white label with black numbers RS7118. Label looks like it was made on a computer and not very professional. What the hell did I get. Is it B-Stock, refurb speakers, or counterfeits? Please help, I need to contact them in the next few days if I want to return.
  2. Thanks for all your input. I was very lucky though, found the last pair tweeter had in black at Mt Prospect Store (Dan I actually purchased them first and then saw your tip). Dan are you the guy I sold my Academy or Heresys to? Better yet they were a floor model and I got them for $800 for the pair. Not a single scratch on them and everything in excellent condition. They sound great. Also got a KLF-C7 off ubid for $295 shipped. Then picked up an Onkyo 696 at Abt for $615 + tax. Not too bad - I'm very happy. Now I am going to demo the RS-7 surrounds and see how well they mix with the Legend series. Hope this informative thread helps many who want to restain Klipsch speakers. Great Info from you all! 3. "We ARE talking SEVERAL light coats with a complete drying (24 hours or better more) after the second to last coat." jerohm, from the above statement how much time should be adequate between each coat to dry? I know that you say before the second to last coat let it dry 24hrs, but just wondering about those first 5-6 coats. When you say, "Mask and clean with care", what do you mean by "mask"? Thanks for all the great info!
  4. I did find a place that sells the 30 sheen black lacquer on the internet. But I am not sure home many coats to apply. Also should I paint with a brush or spray on the lacquer? I don't have a spray gun, but assume these can be rented from the local hardware store.
  5. Doug you are correct about the color. Tech support called me back and told me the exact same color - 30 sheen black lacquer. But is this a paint or a stain (someone at klipsch, please confirm)? I know that many wood speakers are stain using an oil based stain. I am not familiar with 30 sheen black lacquer. Is this something I can buy at the local Menards or Home Center? Also is this an easy enough job for a DIY who can follow directions, or should I pay to have them professionally refinished and what would something like this cost for both speakers? Thanks - Jeff. 6. What condition are the KLF-20's in? How much do you want to sell them for? email me
  7. I have only been able to find reasonably priced KLF-20's in OAK. But I want them in Black, but was wondering if the KLF-20 Black are actually just the same Oak version but stained with dark black stain. If this is the case I could just buy the OAK and stain them black. Just wondering if this is possible and if they will look the same as the factory black. Has anyone done this or can someone at Klipsch confirm that the BLACK are the same as the OAK speaker just stained differently. This message has been edited by jfcarbel on 09-17-2001 at 01:59 PM

  10. wireless: Saw those great prices on Ubid, but I am looking for black and all they have is OAK. I am hoping more will go up soon in black.
  11. Yep, mine is that $610 priced one. I know, I said "Holy Shnikes" when I saw that price. I mean $200 more than I paid for the speaker and it is 9 years old. But it is in excellent condition and I love the way it did home theater with my Heresy IIs. But I think I will be just as happy with the KLF-20 and C7. I originally sold them in mind with getting enough cash to buy the Reference speakers, but I was so disappointed when I went to listen to them. Then I heard about these KLF-20 on this forum and when I heard them I was in love just like I felt with my Heresy II. I may be inclined to say the KLF-20 sounds better than my Heresy II. But now quality of construction is a whole different story. BTW- Where is a good place local to Illinois or close by that matches online prices for the KLF-20. A local dealer quoted me $1200 which I think is quite high since the average online is around $800 for a pair. Thanks all. This message has been edited by jfcarbel on 08-21-2001 at 12:30 AM
  12. BTW - My Academy is already sold. Sorry guys.
  13. Some have said in this forum that the RC-7 and the RS-7 blend perfectly with the KLF-20s. They even mentioned testing this with panning scenes. So unless that person was not listening right, the RC-7 would be much better due to the lower bass. Can any Administrators answer whether the RC-7/RS-7 was designed with matching the KLF timbre or at least tested and verified as a good match.
  14. I'm fine with the KLF-C7 if it can keep up with the KLF-20s bass. BLOOMIS914 you suggest using a cutoff of 70 by setting the center to small. But I have heard that the you want to keep as much of the bass to your front speakers as you can, since they can more distinctly and quickly move the bass sound. I am not vert familiar with bass management, but will have to when I get the SVS sub. But if I use an LFE cutoff at 70Hz then I lose alot of bass on my KLF-20s. Are there any movies that use panning of bass below 70-45Hz across the front? What about racing movies, or is that mostly midrange or above 70Hz? Some have said in this forum that the RC-7 and the RS-7 blend perfectly with the KLF-20s. They even mentioned testing this with panning scenes. 15. Looks like all 3 of these speakers will work with both the Heritage and Legend series, so I think it would be a good point to determine which center is best. Just curious, if anyone has experienced all 3 whcih one turned out the best performance. I am demoing a pair of KLF-20s and have an Academy and am going to see if the will loan me a RC-7 as well. Maybe I'll just bring my Academy to the store tonight when I go and try them all with the same material. If I do I'll be sure to post the results here. HELP- Can someone tell me what movuie scenes are good to test the center channel? I've been told that panning is good to test timbre-matching and someone suggested the X-men scene with Senator Kelly talking to the senate. I would love more suggestions to make my testing more thorough.
