  1. I'm sure someone might want them but your "Make me your best offer" tactic may be slightly off-putting. In my experience most items moved here start out with the seller naming their price.

    Good luck with the sale.

Yea, I am kind of interested, but am clueless as to value.

  2. Hello,

My speakers are about 5 1/2 feet from my preamp.  I am about to go with mono-blocks and I am wondering if it's best to:

    1) Run a 5 1/2' XLR from my preamp to monos (if i place them near the speaker) and then the shortest speaker wire possible?

    2) Keep the monos as close to the preamp as possible and run 5 1/2 speaker wire?

    3) It won't make a difference?

    Thanks,

    Chip

  3. If you have a preamp or integrated that only has "input out" to connect your subwoofer, can you connect two subs by connecting one to the R and the other to L? Also, will they then work in Stereo? Thanks for the help.

  4. Interesting. No one has ever invited me to be part of a think tank? I wonder what that means?

    Any, here's my bright idea:

    Upgradable Speakers

I've often thought it would be great if a company like Klipsch could more effectively bridge the gap between consumer electronics (i.e. Best Buy), DIY'ers and audiophiles. Maybe something like this: Klipsch develops a pair of speakers in nice cabinets and with a great sound for $800.  But for an additional $500, the serious audiophile could buy driver replacements/upgraded crossovers, that would make that $800 speaker a true reference level.  Perhaps even offer a couple upgrade options.

  5. Yes on the UPA-7

    No on the UMC-1

The UMC-1 has been a problem child since day one for Emotiva. The sound quality is absolutely fantastic, but there are a number of operational issues.

I got one two years ago and returned it during the 30 day trial period. Very slow to switch modes going from HDMI to HDMI. Weird center channel drop outs. Etc.

Some on the Emotiva board think the UMC-1 is awesome. Not in my opinion.

Unless, you want to quickly move up to the coming XMC-1, 40% discount card with UMC-1, I'd wait for the UMC-100 and I think UMC-500 that are also coming soon.

Thanks for the info. I am attracted to the Emo's because of cost. In the past year I have spen a good bit on two channel and that's where my passion is. It's just that there are 4 Heresys for sale locally for $350 and it seems a great opportunity to get into HT. So I will likely pick up a used Oppo 93, spend $1000 on pre/pro or av receiver, and be done with it.

Are there other $1000 options for pre/power or av receiver you men would suggest? Again, used is ok.

BTW, this site has been super helpful and friendly.

  6. I am sort of leaning 7.2, because I can pick up the Emotiva 7.2 power and pro for $1000. BTW, that is my top budget. Generally, I would rather spend on two channel. But are there other sub $1000 setups I should consider? Don't mind used at all.

  7. I have been thinking about setting up a HT. (Always been two channel).

Locally, a guy is selling 4 Heresys. I was thinking about getting them and find a fifth to set up a 5.2. But I was wondering if anyone has done that? Any thoughts on how it would work? Another possibility would be to use my Fortes for the fronts and three Heresys for LR/RR/CENTER. Or even 7.2 with five Heresys?

    Thanks, Chip

  8. I was wondering if any of you guys have one of these. I know they just came out, but thought someone may have been eager to give it a shot. I have to say that it has aroused my curiosity. And Emotiva is supposed to be coming out with a reference line monoblock. I have to say I listened to the USP and the UPA's and wasn't all that impressed.

  9. Hello Gents,

I am having some problems with my Forte's. I am hoping someone on this site might be able to give me some help. There's a buzzing sound that comes from my passive woofer that I noticed at about 40 Hz.  The buzzing becomes less pronounced as the frequency increases. It sounds like something is rattling and I have checked to see if I can identify anything that's loose and I can't. Any ideas or suggestions?

  10. Well, my Rythmic came. It is simply amazing! I spend about two hours last night getting it tuned in, and still have some tweaks to make, but I am super impressed. I have heard guys say that subs only impact a small percentage of the music we listen to. That seems to be the case. But when that small percentage is done right (like through a Rythmic sub) it is glorious.

  11. I am sure this has been discussed ad nauseam, but have you men found significant improvement switching interconnects? I had a chance to pick up some Audio Metallurgy GA-0's. Here's the thing: I kept switching them back and forth with the ones I bought from Blue Jeans Cable and couldn't notice a bit of diffrence. Granted, I am relatively new to the hifi world, but zero... zilch... not ANY difference. Are there other interconnects I should try? Or is this one of those bits of marketing magic?

  12. Trust your ears, if they sound good to you nothing else matters.

If you feel you want to hear something else listen to other systems but don't jump unless your just blown away, you will know if you hear something that matches your taste in reproduction better than the fortes.

I didn't see if you said or not but you should consider a sub, integrated properly it will not take away anything from the fortes, only add to the bottom end where the fortes leave off.

I am glad to hear this. I have a Rythmic F15 coming. It was originally supposed to be here today, but I found out I will be waiting till Monday. I am stoked'
