  1. Happy Monday, you all are hilarious! It was fun catching up! Jason, hope things aren't serious. After a mostly snow free winter, 10 inches on Saturday. Warmed to 45 yesterday - supposed to hit the 50's this week so for now.., soup. The Stars lined up this weekend when my family was gone more than two hours and watched the latest mission impossible movie with the volume way up. :-) I was pleasantly surprised, my low expectations served me well! Have a great week!
  2. Wow that's terrible about the fire and all those dogs. I hope you get a reprieve from the rain soon!
  3. Praying for you Roger. Lost my dad to prostate cancer a year ago November. I'm glad you're there for support. Congrats on your daughter. The light and heavy of life...
  4. Jason that had to be awful! Glad you have a good thing going now!
  5. It's normally a family discussion for us. The Rottie that my daughter has now had an artificial hip installed when he was about 10 months old. He's 4 now and you'd never know it. At the time, my adult daughter, my wife and I had a long talk about it as the surgery wasn't cheap. I think each issue should be looked at individually on a case by case basis considering all factors including the age and health of your pet, your financial situation, odds of success, etc. I would agree with this. Shop vets too - ask, ask, ask - reputation & prices can vary wildly. Our Dane swallowed a five foot long rope (pinky diameter but still) and we paid $1,000 total to get it out. A friend told us months later they put theirs down because their lab got a corn cob stuck and the vet wanted $3,200. I think it's case by case for sure. We opted not to spring for big bucks on chemo because cost benefit wasn't there. A few extra months but sick all the time? Nah. We did pay for some "high octane" pain killer though. Happy Tuesday!
  6. Thanks, You know these 'stinkin' dogs, they give you a lifetime of unconditional love and then they rip your heart out when they leave. They're worth it though.
  7. Ugh, that's just brutal. The facebook messages for puppies are already rolling in, but we want to take a while to grieve before we decide to jump in again (or not). With little kids (3&1), it will be nice to focus on them and puppies need a lot of work up front to train.
  8. You guys are great. It's nice to hear from pet people at times like this because you just understand. It's a special kind of hurt and it does NOT get easier, this is the third dog we've said goodbye to in four years. This is presently our last dog and I think that is making it hit a little harder. I appreciate you sharing your experiences.
  9. Good morning and good Monday all! Tough weekend, we put Ruben, our beloved Great Dane down (the gray dog in my avatar pic). The tumor on his leg was finally causing too much pain even with uber meds. He gave us 8 1/2 wonderful years. It's tough to lose a member of the family. Life goes on, hope you're all well and have a great week!
  10. It's remarkable, it's on rails. The windy mountain roads were by far the most fun. It has a g force display so you can see how hard your leaning into any corners (or getting pushed back on acceleration!). Paddle shifters (no clutch) and it was seamless shifting. There's a reason they charge what they do, it's a different machine. For now, I'm quite content to rent one like that, it leaves money for khorns - even with a nice Mac amp it's "cheap" compared to a performance car! Right?! (Working on my justification speech to my wife)
  11. Greetings all. It's been a while following a week of brutal illness, and a 10 day vacation with alternating sick kiddos, back in the saddle. Loving the car pics. This is my only real car pic. I was able to be a part of a Porsche driving tour in Germany a couple of years ago. This is my "angry album cover face, lean on the car pose". The 911 is a wonderful machine and I am grateful for the opportunity to drive it for a few days.
  12. It's fifteen degrees here in Alaska and since we are southwest of San Diego on many U.S. maps, it's a real mystery...
  13. I won't say the government scares me, but having worked for the government (as a police officer for eight years) it concerns me far more than scared people. Random can always happen with nut jobs, but beware the government that is "here to help", especially in the name of helping the less fortunate. " It's ok, forcing health care isn't a decrease in Liberty, it's helping the poor whom you must hate if you don't like this takeover." Or now "it's ok, we're catching terrorists, that's why we're looking at everything on your computer, phone files, etc." Slowly increase the temp of the water and the frog won't jump out. Disclaimer- I want to clarify my time on the police force was by and large great, saw not a sniff of corruption in the ranks or brass, but saw some truly clueless, but very well educated people, making the policies, etc.
  14. Well I don't have bad credit, I just have no credit which is just as bad. A very long time ago we decided to get away from the credit thing, and large house and car notes. We ended up with a debit card because you have to have some kind of card for some things. I would have great credit if I owed everyone but paid everything on time, I would rather not owe and just use cash. And I'll bet you actually have money too! I like your financial practice.
  15. You have a great mother in law! If you want to try something different - we like regular makers mixed with Dr Pepper - it was an accidental discovery for us but it's a great combination, in our opinion.
  16. My wife got me a bottle of Makers 46 last month. I highly recommend it if you haven't tried it yet.
  17. First Round is on me if you can possibly make it to hope. Roger Deal!
  18. THAT is a dream scenario! Closest we have is a charity list, which I think they just opened so now anyone can sign up, but the state is actually delivering road kill moose to the homes of those on the list. Usually still plenty of good meat, and no longer are people processing moose on the shoulder of the road like they have been forever. (Dark icy roads, what could go wrong?!)
  19. The bugs are almost a non issue that late in the year - in spring/early summer they'll make you lose your religion. Longest shot for moose I've seen is probably 300-350 yds. Not a photographer, but an enthusiast and those were all with a phone. We live in an incredible state that I tell everyone they should add a visit to their bucket list.
  20. Ok - I shouldn't hijack your thread Tar - please bear with me. This fits this thread because we drank coffee on a regular basis... We were flown in, this is the riverbar before the hike up. Coffee was great! Very cowboy. After the hike above the tree line - the view was highly acceptable imho. (Sorry - had to really compress this one to get it to fit.) Set up our base camp in a little bowl above the tree line. We got fogged and snowed in on day two. We had two of these set up (four of us total). And a view from the plane on the way out.
  21. I'll see if I can post some when I get home. I own a 300 win mag, .30-06 is perfectly fine too. Some roam the woods, brush. We hike up above the tree line an look down on them. It's pretty cool because the moose are all eaten and it's not just kill something to pose with the carcass. Some up here make an all out event of it and load four wheelers to the nines and haul everything out there for a luxury hunt, beer, radio etc. My father in law is a little more old school and well - I need to hit the gym before I get out there. My father in law looks like a tall Sam Elliott type who, no lie, packed a paraplegic over a mountain ridge after he missed a shot at a sheep years ago. After shooting and missing, the man said "well that was my chance I guess" as the sheep walked over the mountain. My father in law said "maybe not" and took him (witnessed) some 600-700 yds farther over a ridge on his back to get another look and the eventual successful shot. They had ridden horses to that point and my father in law and another man went after and packed out the sheep after his paraplegic friend shot it. I'm a desk jockey, I just try to keep up.
  22. Roger, I would love to make the Hope trip someday! Almost pulled it off last year and had to bail. I have SOME pics of critters over the past few years. We got skunked this last year sadly and the freezer is empty. We LOVE moose for everything now (spaghetti, tacos, burgers, etc) it's a great and healthier beef substitute. My wifes family are lifelong hunters, my dad only fished so I've only been on the actual hunt twice now over the past two seasons. (Though I finished off many a moose as a police officer on the roads). Anyway - war stories (that are building!) over a beer or two, with good music from good speakers in great company sounds like a blast, I hope to get there at some point, pun intended. If I can't make it - maybe I can talk the bro and father in law into taking an outsider on this next years hunt. It's real work, but the setting couldn't be better. The fall colors are over the top that time of year!
  23. Thanks Dave! I was up to Alaska a number of years back for 19 days during the summer. Do you live anywhere near any good moose hunting and/or caribou by chance Roger Yes very near especially for moose!
  24. Hi! I haven't posted in 25 pages or so. G'day from way up north! Happy Hump Day! Enjoy your health and your Klipsch today!
