  1. Klipped no problem I bet that most of the pages are 8.5 X 11 and if there is one that more it will be the schematic. I'm not worried about the schematc I have that. Let me know Craig I'm going to put the HF-81 on the back burner till you get it.
  2. Jazzman and Mike Sorry to hear that. I myself am so tired of that Dam desease its horrible. My dad had a run in with a few years ago scared the hell out of me. Now one of my oldest friends has throat cancer and he's been going thru Kemo and the works for the last 6 months. Might loose his tong luckily there saving his voise box for sure so he will be able to learn to talk again if they remove his tongue. Jazzman In your loss you should not be the least bit worried about hooking up the heresy's. Its not that big of a deal. I think you will find that it sounds fine. My unit is just a basket case period. But none the less I'm curios on how it sounds so just do it when you have a chance. Craig
  3. t-man I second that. No such thing as Overkill. If my wife would let me I would have 4 Lascala's and a Heresy center channel and 2 Subs in my 12 X 12 room . Of coarse we would have to sit on the floor .
  4. Yea I have pretty much got all the hum taken care of now that I have replaced every Electrolytic in the unit. All of the smaller Electrolytics tested way out of spec some were even double there intended value. The 2 30 MFD spague's were fine but I put the new ones in anyway. The thing that I'm sorry to say is the staticky noise above 50% volume is still there and the Harshness of the sound is still there. I'm so tired at this point of working on it and not really making much progress for all my hours that I have cleaned the major mess I made up on my bench and put the ^%*&%)*&^ on the shelf for at least a few day's. Maybe if I go back at it fresh something will start paying off. I begining to think that the Harshness is a tone control problem and think the next thing I'm going to do is bypass the tone controls and the Balance controls. I'll have to really dig thru the schematic and scratch my head a few times and then Call my good CA connection Mdennen help !!!!! I think that's where the problem is because they act funky when you turn them and for that matter the volume Pot is shot too !!!! Speaker volume doesn't rise and fall any where near equal but sometimes if you hit the right spot its fine and yes I've sprayed them a number of times turning the nob and did get rid of the scratch sounds but they still don't work right. I think they were the cheapest parts money could buy all the way thru these amps. Oh well if it cause me much more headache I'm going to scrap it and sell the tubes out of it for a profit and sell the Iron also. Craig
  5. Well the saga rolls on !!!! I have the entire amp rewired and much to my amazement it still works LOL !!!!!! It did some good and seemed to quiet down some of the static but did nothing for the harshness or the Hum. My 15 yr old daughter discribed it as way to sharp. So the quest went on. I went to the local part house and I was amazed again they had a NOS Sprague Can Cap that fit the Bill for a whopping $12 bucks. I installed it and it got rid of allot of the Hum and some more of the static. I also bought every other electrolytic for the amp at the same time. While I'll most likely change them later. I'm going to use them as a diagnosis tool at least the 2 large voltage filter caps that call for 30MFD at 450V I'll change. The one's I bought are those smaller Niconin brand but they should do just to see if it helps. Oh and Mdeneen is right there is no way to test if a Electrolytic is bad the Can still tests fine out of circuit. I'll post some pictures later Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-28-2002 at 09:37 PM
  6. JoshT I've had my Heresey 1s for about 2 weeks now and just love them. I don't even listen to my other setup anymore. There are nothing short of amazing. Do you use your Sub with them for 2 channel music ??
  7. Klipped Ag Tannenbaum has the original factory assembly manual for the DIY. They get $17 for it you have to call them to order. I have bought 2 Scott Items from them and they were first class copies. If you want to call them and order it I'll split the cost with you. You could just photo copy it and mail mine. Craig
  8. jazman You ever get a chance to hook the HF-81 to the heresy's yet. I curious what you found with your setup ??
  9. That's awesome congragulation Max your famous !!!!!
  10. Mdeneen Yea your right and that's why they wouldn't pay for the Amp damage they said the inner bax didn't have the minimum clearance. It was packed nice but these heavy amp really need large boxes. It just seems that UPS should of covered it anyway's for someone that spends that much money with them. Craig
  11. When I said unfruitfull I just meant you guy's weren't able to get it up and running like you planned. I guess I should of been more clear when I wrote that. Also I guess we shouldn't expect the HF-81 to have the best of parts in it when you consider that at the time it only cost 69.95 Kit or 109.95 Wired compared to Scott's and Fischers and the like that cost double and even triple. Craig
  12. Yea Ebay is a toss up at best and you have to be real carefull and try to trap the sellers into giving you the truth. I myself have bought about 25(mobile incase your reading this it only shows 19 and I hounded them for those ) Item's on Ebay and other than shipping damage have made out like a bandit. Even the shipping end both sellers covered the problem completely. Oh and another word to the wise to everyone. Try not to use UPS they will not cover damage they blatantly caused to your goods. Some of you probably remember my 222C having the face plate damaged. This unit was packed real well from the seller bubble wrapped and double boxed. The dropped the Box flat and hard and it bent the face plate but didn't damage the box. The refused to pay for the damage and blamed it on not being package right !!! The seller refunded me $50 without a problem and said he was all done with UPS he has shipped 600 inits with them and that was his first claim. 13. Yes but with it you have to buy a clamp for $2 and another axial lead Electrolytic for $5 so in the end its less than $2 and doesn't look stock. I emailed Vibraworld back to see if they have them in stock or what they didn't say.
  14. Klipped Heard you and Mark didn't have a very fruitfull evening. Sorry to hear it. I'm so wore out fixing the hack job wiring on my HF-81. I finally quit for the night need some sleep.
  15. Mike I found another option for that Cap. This ones from AES and you use it and than buy another Axial lead 40mfd/500V sprague to do the other leg with still ends up cheaper by a few bucks. Part Number : C-EC50-50-500 Price : $ 10.95 EA Description : CAPACITOR, ELECROLYTIC, 2 SEC, 50/50 MFD @ 500V This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-27-2002 at 11:19 PM
  16. What's really weird is that he has it wired so far from the output tubes that I'm not sure what he was doing there !
  17. That is so funny it makes me feel so much better ! I've been taking the hacks wiring out of mine on and off since 10:00 this morning. I'd really like to meet the Idiot that did this upgrade wire job on this unit. What really surprises me is that the entire thing didn't go up in flames LOL ! Some of the tube connection's were so close to one another you literally had to get a magnifying glass to see the separation. If the chassis was in better condition I would of most likely stopped 8 hours ago and scrapped everything in it and started from scratch. The amp just isn't in good enough shape cosmetically to spend that kind of money on it. I sure hope after I get it all done it sounds as good as everyone say's they do. Craig

  20. Ed the one you sent me wasn't the entire schematic and it doesn't even look like the HF-81. It only has 4 12aX7's on the page.
  21. Well said and your right we all need to quit nit picking others points of veiw. suggestion noted and excepted. Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-27-2002 at 03:35 PM
  22. Thanks Mobile Also were not a Army at all. I'm sure that once the Amps are repaired we will find them to be very nice. Craig
  23. Mike I went to there sight and couldn't find a 20/20/20/40 did you get this info in a email ??
  24. What's JJ sight the 20 20 20 40 would be perfect if it isn't to tall. Tie 2 20 together and you have 40/40/20 just what I need. Craig This message has been edited by NOS440 on 03-27-2002 at 02:53 PM
