  1. The vintage receiver market is hotter than two rats bumpin' uglies in a wool sock right now. Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui, Kenwood, JVC, Yamaha, Technics, and it seems like 100 models of each brand! How in the world do you know what to get!?!? Im not real sure what kind of answer Im looking for but I am about as confused and undecided as one can get!
  2. Wasn't sure what forum to put this in so I put it here and in the technical question forum. Would a 15wpc Marantz 2216B drive a pair of '97 La Scala's sufficently? Provide adequate bass, and be loud enough? Any input as always, is very appreciated!!
  3. I am selling these Cornwalls I recently picked up. They will need 2 woofers, and one of the tweeters is not working. I was told the diaphragm needs to be replaced. Crites sells a pair of diaphragms for $35. He sells a pair of woofers for $230. I have the original jensen woofers that came with them if you want them. They are funtional but the cones are completely shot. If you have the time and money this could be a solid pair of speakers for you. The original grills were torn and I have removed them, all the old staples too. Crites sells grill cloth for $45. I also have started treating the finish and trying to clean it up because there are drink rings and stains on the tops. The sides look great and the tops are showing definite improvement since I started treating them. I also have the Pie emblems that go on them. They are worn and there isnt much gold coloring left on them. The insulation inside one of the speakers is in bad shape. I will get more pics other than the serial tags posted tonight, just wanted to get the ad up and those are the only pics I have at work. I would prefer not to ship these monsters. I live just outside Little Rock. Send a pm or reply if you have any interest. Thank you
  4. Biggest problem is the original woofer is 4 ohm and the new ones are 8 ohm. The crossover in them now, from what I understand, won't jive with the new woofers.
  5. I have a pair of 1997 La Scala's that I am setting up for music only. Im needing to get a vintage amp and I see several that are 15-16 wpc. Can anyone provide any insight as to how that will sound? Will 15-16 wpc give me good volume and everything or should I go up in wpc? I am looking at the marantz 2216b. Thank you!!
  6. I ask board members to forgive my ignorance as I learn the vintage speaker ropes!! on to my question....will a bad diaphragm prevent a tweeter from making sound or ohming out? Thanks in advance for the edumication!
  7. I know this is not a good thing but $$ is a factor......is there any other type or brand of 15" woofer that will work?
  8. The picture is of the crossover currently in the '64 Cornwalls. The woofers in them is the PL115 Jensen woofer. I want to replace them with the newer k-33 woofer, the ones with the square drivers. My question is will that work? I dont know enough about the woofers to know if any K-33 is compatible with that type 2 R crossover or if it has to be the old jensen woofer?![*-)]
  9. If anyone has a spare k-33 woofer to sell let me know!!
  10. Can anyone provide any insight on the value of the original Jensen woofer? The PL115. Both need to be reconed, just curious the value of them as they sit. Drivers are good, paper cones are just torn.
  11. That was fast! Speakers gone!
  12. Im looking to trade off my black KG4's. What I would like to get is an older stereo receiver, not tube, just older with the silver face and silver knobs. I dont expect a Mcintosh but if anyone has an older Marantz, Pioneer, or something along those lines that works and fits the description let me know what you have if your interested in a swap. My ebay username is carrob4159 I have 203 feedbacks with a score of 100% feedback. I live in Central Arkansas just west of Little Rock. Thank you!
  13. I need to post pictures of this thing. The quartets have crites crossovers and titanium diaphragms but what I am told is that crossovers consume a certain amount of power and can make the speaker a little less efficient. This deal plugs into the wall and you hook the speakers into it and it eliminates any loss of efficiency. There are 2 red and 2 black speaker plugs on the back of them instead of just the standard red and black. Stay tuned, as soon as I can I will put pictures up. Im not a technical guy but thats basically how it was explained to me.
  14. Yep! Thats it! Do you think that is worth reconing or should I just buy new? Do you know the value of that woofer as it sits with a torn cone?
  15. I have a couple of old woofers from some '64 cornwalls and the woofers themselves are torn. I believe these are the ones made by Jensen years ago, I could be wrong, but I think they are. Is it possible for the k-33 to be reconed and repaired or should I just buy new ones? Thanks!
