  1. ^^^From what I've read, movie sound engineers send everything 120hz and down to the LFE channel so that wouldn't be way too high. Right now I have my fronts set to 60, everything else to 80, and sub is at 120. (I keep messing around with different settings, so these aren't my end all settings) If you cut the frequency to the LFE off too low, your other speakers will have to do more work as your AVR will have no choice but to send the stuff it would normally send to the LFE to those other channels to reproduce. This may be ok in some setups as their fronts won't have any problems reproducing the lower lows, but it still takes a lot away from what your sub is designed to do.

  2. not sure if this has been posted, but you might want to wait for the Onkyo 818. Looks to be around $1100 and will have mult eq XT32

It looks like it won't be a good choice if you have more than 1 sub tho, no sub EQ.
  3. Why not try the umc-1 like I am doing? The price is right for sure. If you dont like it you could sell it and use the upgrade card to get the xmc-1 at 40% off or you could probable sell the umc-1 for more with the card.

Because right now I don't have any amps. It's something I may do down the road, but for now I just don't want to drop money for a pre/pro and also the money to drive 7 channels. So I'll have to buy an AVR for now and integrate the amp/amps in the future.
  4. I got final confirmation that you can indeed turn on the amps using the zone 2/3 12v outputs, you just have to turn the zones on to turn the amps on, and apparently turn the zones off as well to turn the amps off. Not that big of a deal, but it appears that my harmony remote doesn't have the zone buttons in the device menu. Maybe it's possible to set up turning on/off the other zones as part of an activity. I might have to mess around with the remote a little to see if it's possible (I'm guessing it is...). So the onkyo isn't out for me just yet. Edit: I don't see the zone buttons as options to put into the harmony remote. Ha ha, I've been back and forth on this more than a politician. I don't really like the idea of having to have the second remote out, kinda defeats the purpose of me having the harmony. So maybe the onkyo is back out =^P I think I'm done with my looking into that whole thing...but at least I have a definitive answer and hopefully it'll help somebody out down the line.

  5. Which is really not a big deal and a whole lot easier than turning them off and on manually. We'll see tho, I have been looking at other AVRs and wouldn't mind trying something different, but I have to say that the onkyo issue is not a deal breaker for me. Kinda wish I had an amp now to give it a try myself.

  6. I think I read his last message incorrectly. I am still talking to the guy and it does seem that you can turn the amps on by hitting the zone 2/3 button, then just go back to zone 1 and the amps are turned on, and will turn off when you turn the AVR off. I suppose this makes sense, it just adds an extra step. I'm still talking to the guy just trying to understand 100%. And if I was to guess as to why they went to 2 woofers, I would say to save money.

  7. That's a tough one...I suppose I would check out the palladium series. Those things look super nice, and I'm sure they sound equally as super. I think I'd only go for that as a living room setup tho. If I had a dedicated theatre room, I'd probably go with the ultra series, or something of the like. If I was to just upgrade my system, I'd go with the RF-7 IIs and RC-64 II for the fronts and upgrade to a nice pre/pro and a couple amps. Aaaaah to have unlimited amounts of cash....
