  1. I already have a full klipsch setup in my living room...i was going to use the quints as rear speakers but i decided against it so they have just been sitting here on a shelf.... I just hooked them up cause i was bored...figured i'd upgrade my promedias, lol... But i am getting clicks and buzzing some times now, I'm not sure if its the amp or its my audigy card (switched to XP again, it was a bad experiance the first time...not sure why the hell i'm doing it again, lol) Oh well....guess i'll just hook the promedia sats up again and see if it makes a difference. ------------------ - arrow
  2. I have a few quintets sitting here doing nothing so i decided to hook them up to my promedia system.... It sounds pretty damn good but the amp seems to get pretty hot pretty fast.... just looking for some insight as to weather or not this is going to kill my promedias? ------------------ - arrow
  3. OK! After testing testing testing and retesting i've got the answer! My dvd player sucks, and my recievers digital input sucks.....I will be replacing both components VERY soon... ------------------ - arrow
  4. I'm not sure! I'm pretty damn confused!!! It almost seems like only certain frequencies are getting distorted...mabey its a bad crossover? Or something in my reciever? The woofers seem to be handeling the midrange/lower frequencies perfectly well.. The tweeters are handeling flutes and accoustic guitars and such perfectly......but certain notes distort horribly, the distortion appears to be coming from the tweeters...but as i said, some notes play perfect... for instance, Thelonius Monk - Blue Monk plays perfect and then BB King - 3 O' clock blues will distort horribly! *note that, that recording does not distort horribly on the quintets* And here is a wierd one... Alicia Keys - Fallin plays perfectly fine off my mp3 player, and distorts horribly off both my dvd player and my computers digital output. The first half of the song will play fine...but when the chorus kicks in its distorts HORRIBLY. (I have tryed all of these songs from tracks burned, mp3s played off my archos jukebox, and straight out of my audigys digital out.) ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 12-15-2001 at 05:38 PM
  5. OK....some recording sound fine some are loaded with distortion.... but none of them have distorion on the quintets?!?! The ksf 8.5s are so much more sensative than the quintets that they throw every little blip in your face??? SOO CONFUSED! **ok, been messing around with my setup for a couple hours now....i'm begginning to think its my cds...heh....my mp3 player sounds fine..my dvd and computer both sound horrible! ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 12-14-2001 at 09:24 PM
  6. Ok, i'm still getting distortion.... Sounds like a rattle almost?... Basically it sounds horrible. I don't hear it with the quints hooked up to its gotta be the speakers? For Klipsch speakers they have VERY questionable quality.... I saw some other speakers for around the same price that sounded way better...... for instance the Mirage FRX5s. *just wanted to clearify better....um....well.......they don't rattle with horrible distortion (breaking up...crackeling....rattle)! ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 12-14-2001 at 07:53 PM
  7. Ok,before anyone attacks..... I picked up a pair of KSF 8.5s to play around with/test out... Now, I've ran music thru them for a few days now and they still sound horrid... I'm getting some crackle here and there, and the tweeter seems to be making my ears bleed (not really ofcourse...but it is pretty bad...sustained high pitch irritation!) And some things just sound like hell......for instance the chorus on that alicia keys song sounds HORRID, it completely breaks up. (other things do as well...and they don't when i'm using my other speakers so it isn't the recordings or the wire...to name a few songs that break up pretty bad...3 o' clock blues...anything with an electric guitar!...and pretty much any music with a chorus...) I don't know if this set is defective or what...but my quintets sound better..scratch that...MY PROMEDIAS SOUND BETTER! Granted these pick up crazy detail on some recordings.....but on anything that has alot going on they sound like hell. Definately think i'm taking them back. But i'd like to hear some opinions... Defective?? I mean come on... I"VE HEARD BOSE SPEAKERS THAT SOUND BETTER! *Update........ran down and got another set....sound much better... ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 12-13-2001 at 03:52 PM

  11. The Live 5.1 cards' digital output jack can do double duty as the analog subwoofer and center output and when in Digital mode it now offers 3 SPDIF streams instead of 2. When its used with the FPS2000, DTT2500 or a stereo mini-jack to dual RCA cable it will still send out the front and rear output as the previous Live cards. When used with the new digital DIN input on the DTT3500 system it will offer also support 5.1 for games. The output is above 0.5V standard but below 5.0V and will not work with the Digital Output Module The analog subwoofer channel can be selected as LFE out (5.1 mode only) or as a mix of all other channels. Meaning that it makes a cutoff somewhere and sends the below frequencies out to the subwoofer-in on a 6 channel input. I can't find the specification anywhere! I emailed creative but have yet to get a reply... I also know that the new Audigy line allows you to select what frequency you would like as the cutoff. (I have provided a picture of this that is available at www.3dss.com) ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 11-08-2001 at 04:11 PM
  12. Ok the SB Live has 3 outputs for 5.1 sound...I have them all plugged into my reciever...I want to know where it is cutting the signals for the sub output channel. My quintets cut out at 100hz...but the sub redirection on the live may be below that...so i would be missing from that crossover up to 100hz. ------------------ - arrow
  13. They should have variable crossovers.....doesn't make much sense otherwize. Even the new sound cards have it! But still....you would think that Klipsch would realize that flaw and compensate! Update....The SB Live 5.1 is only putting stereo sound out the spdif...may be because i'm using the one on the Live Drive...But I can't get the one on the card to work. I think its putting out their proprietary digital din signal... ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 11-08-2001 at 12:22 PM
  14. I ran the wires to the sub for use in the front with a duplicate main into the speaker level inputs....the reason i wanted to run all 4 thru is just because the rears will now be missing anything from 80 to 100hz....kinda sucks...i think that that would be a design flaw on klipsch's part... but thats assuming that all 5 channels get full range out of DD5.1/DTS....do the rear channels get anything below 100hz? (It won't matter with music because the rear channels are just duplicates) PS, I just used Paint to draw that...not bad aye..lol ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 11-06-2001 at 06:39 PM
  15. Why the fronts only? Not the rears as well? I would think that it would be best to have the sub pick up that slack for all 4 satillites...like in the promedia systems...? Also...moving the sub to the front of the room would make that extra wiring easier...but i'm not sure if it will sound good so close to 2 doorways....i drew a quick diagram to show where i have it. ------------------ - arrow This message has been edited by Farrow on 11-06-2001 at 03:08 PM
