  1. I do not see how you'd be able to accomplish this without the control pod. I've done this exact thing with a promedia ultra sub but the control pod was still necessary to power the unit on and off. The major difference is the 2.1 control pod not only controls power on/off but is also what provides the audio signal input to the sub/speakers. So another words, you would use that 3.5mm wire with the male end from the pod (i.e. headphone jack) and then you would use an rca to 3.5mm converter then to your receiver sub preout.

this would be a good start: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-ProMedia-2-1-Speaker-Control-Pod-/141035475197?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item20d65e90fd

    Hope that helps.

  2. None of those expensive mechanical watches is as accurate as a quartz-controlled Timex, but that's not the point. It's not a timepiece, it's jewellery that tells everyone you're really really rich, and also happens to have a time readout.

Items like that are sometimes called Veblen goods, in which the primary selling point is the price, not any obvious function of the item.

    From Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veblen_good

Klipsch ran into a problem with buyers who wanted speakers that were so expensive that their pricetags would be a bragging point. The top of the home line, the Klipschorn, sounded and looked great, but didn't cost enough.

The engineers got to work and came up with the Palladium line. The Palladium speakers sound great and look great, and cost enough to appeal to the market segment that looks at the price tag, not to see if they can afford the item, but to see if it costs enough to impress their friends. That's one category of Palladium buyers, and I don't think there are any on the forum.

Instead, I think the Palladium owners on the forum are music fans who want the best speakers that Klipsch makes.

However, those non-members who are seeking expensive speakers as status symbols buy a lot of stuff, and even in recessions and depressions, they can still afford expensive stuff. That makes them a really good market segment to tap into.

That's very informative Islander. So goods (i.e. jewelry) I can understand. Speakers, I can understand. But something that either will do very little/practically nothing/nothing and will never be seen/hidden in the background (aka a wire) that's just absurd. I'd rather just like buy a whole buncha gear or buy inanely expensive wire and give the rest to charity if i wanted to blow 20-30K.

I apologize to everyone who looks through this thread for my incessant rambling. I guess ordinary folk like me will just never understand things such as this, just beyond my comprehension.

  3. I gotta say, i'm loving all these responses. This is answering my question quite well. I am really glad you folks have so many different perspectives and insight on this. [:P][:D]

Improvements in audio by using better cables has been demonstrated to be nominal. It doesn't make sense to spend large piles of cash on anything that provides little value. I am also a car guy, and I would liken this to spending $20,000 on a steering wheel for a car. There are models almost as good for $1,000. You are still spending way more for it than you should, but if it is a very nice car, go for it! But $20,000?!?! How about the $350,000 watches at Harrods? Do they work that much better than the dollar watches at the dollar store? You are very right, and I think anybody who has any sense of the value of money would look at these B-stock cables for 18 grand, and either be sad, angry, or laugh that there are people in this world who have so little sense and yet that much excess money.

Mustang, I too am a car guy so I make comparisons like that all the time. I am in total agreement here except maybe the watch thing. Unless those babies have like 20 carrot diamonds on em', i'd be in total awe....but that doesn't add to the FUNCTION which is what we're talking about here so probably bad example

Anyway, the basis here is no matter who you are is there really justification to dropping that kinda cash on WIRE? Even if you are someone the believes the fact wires make a huge auditory difference I can't see spending beyond $300-500. That'd be like me trying to explain how spending $2000 on a shift knob will enable me to shift faster and decrease my time by .002 seconds.

  4. I guess I should preface this with "Rated ROFL. Extreme laughter highly likely".

So I was perusing Agon (as I often like to do so... never know what deal you'll come across) and the price tag caught my eye.

Thereafter, I realized what I was looking at and I said to myself "I wonder who buys these types of things?". That right there is the question. [:|]

But I mean really, does anyone even take into consideration the cost to added value ratio when looking at something like this? This is my holy grail of "what a crock" thus far for me in this hobby.... Now I know some that will view this will feel quite alienated or insulted, to those I say we all have our opinions and I am not taking a stab at anyone. So please, let's keep it civilized.

  5. Some scenes I feel are demo worthy. Acting is a bit to be desired, especially with Sam's constant name screaming out bursts. Pretty annoying and highly unnecessary - just deflates the movie. In any case, still enjoyable to watch with plenty of entertainment value.

  6. Just out of curiosity, what were u pondering for ur rears? In any case, since you'll be ridding of ur RS's and going with bookshelves (i'm assuming), y not instead of mounting them on the wall, you place on them stands behind your couch? In that kind of scenario, i believe they should be 110-130 (can't remember exact) degrees off axis of the sweet spot to either side (directed at the sweet spot). Doing it this way, will pretty much remove the guess work of mounting them correctly on the wall. Not sure though if you have this option?

  7. I have pretty much decided that I'll be using room 2 when I completely re-do the home theater. Since I don't have side walls to place the left/right surround speakers, will placing them on the back wall and pointing them slightly towards the listening position work well? The couch will be around 3 feet from the back wall.

Kain, i see from your sig that you're using dipole surrounds not bookshelves. Because of the way those speakers are designed to work, you should be able to hang them behind the listening position straight on the wall without tilting and you'd still get the same quality sound. Don't forget, those surrounds [in particular] are not meant to be directional, really, they're supposed to provide you with the more ambient effects [talking home theater/movies perspective]. Especially since u'll have ur couch out from the wall some distance, u should be good to go.

  8. This would be ok, you would get better response from corner loading. But understanding if you can't, I would maybe put the center on a shelf. Like others are saying, I would pull the couch out a foot or two. I would go with room 2.

Duder, this may be just my ears but i always found corner loading to produce more boomy base. It may be just the acoustics in my room but i found that i get less accurate and not as dynamic sound. Moving the sub away from the corner(s) produced a much better result. However, i would agree doing so takes away from the response and being able to fill the room with sound. I was able to fix that issue though with a 2nd sub [:D] [6]

I kind of like Kain's idea putting the sub in the middle with the center on top. That'd be pretty cool and probably produce a more "even" base throughout the room. Althought not sure how well that would work in terms being able to fill the room. My suggestion would be to try it out but also try other possibilies as you [Kain] may just find a much more sutable position.

  9. I dont like them. IMO when you cover up the doghouse on a pair of La Scalas you basically ruin them.

Aww, really, you think so Zark? I actually very much dislike the looks of La Scalas. I think what this guy did makes them look absolutely amazing! A much more cleaner look and the finish is spectacular. But then again, just my personal taste.

..............sorry for the double post; apparently my browser went retarded.

  11. I know the movie itself is not all that great, but I still say has some entertainment value. At the least you get a pretty darn good DTS-HD soundtrack. Oh and not to mention like one of the best intro scenes EVER MADE (can you say holy LFE BATMAN!).

  12. I agree with everyone else.

I would move the sofa up a few/couple feet for better sound BUT put the sub on the front wall.

Totally agree wth moving the sofa. [Y]

Dtel, I was going to inquire though as to why you think it better to put the sub on the front wall. Is that just personal preferece?

I have to ask, from what I can remember reading, a sub in the back of the room is harder to get to sound right. Is that true ?

I have never tried it, but that's why I said it.

Guess that answers my question... I am curious though as to where you got this information. I am thinking of doing a bit of "rearrangement" and was pondering on the idea of putting subs behind the listening position on opposite ends. Either that or putting them on opposite walls facing inward in front of the listening position but not on the sides of the tv (refer to Kain's room 2 drawing to get a better understanding of what I mean). Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  13. Thanks for the replies. It seems basically all of you favor room 2. However, I've read that rooms that are squares or close to squares are bad for sound. Is this true? Will it be a problem?

Secondly, I will not be able to place the surrounds on the side walls in room 2 like I do in room 1. This is because the left wall has an A/C vent and, secondly, the upper part of the left wall is not a "real wall" and won't be able to support the speaker. That is why I have placed them on the back wall and angled them towards the listening position. Any problem here too? I'll probably need a wall mount for the RS-7s and mount them to the back wall but angle them so that they still project sound towards the listening position rather than towards the front wall.

If I was in your position and I had the option of setting up in room 2, I would move the couch up towards the tv. Since you're only able to place the surrounds on the back wall, having your couch away from it would probably allow for better "audio symmetry". Being right next to them as you have drawn would make the surrounds very apparent and "in your face". Perhaps it is just my personal preference, but I like a more ambient experience.

  14. I don’t have Klipsch speakers but I bought this center channel speaker to try with my Emotiva 8.3 towers. The RC-62 is a massive and impressive speaker but not a tonal match with my other speakers. After a few hours of testing, the RC-62 went back in the box. This like-new RC-62 (not RC-62ii) is black ash with original carton, manual and included stand. $330 shipped lower 48. No PayPal. Local pickup preferred in Wooster, Ohio and we'll subtract shipping cost.

Hey Mike, welcome to the forum. Since you're not willing to do paypal, how would one go about getting you payment for those that aren't local?
  15. I would like to sell a mint condition RW12 D . Screen cover also in mint condition . I had amplifier worked on last year , it was sent to a recommended repair facility that Klipsch tech support suggested. What would be a good selling price for this sub.

Location and pics I'm sure would help move things along for you. You might be disappointed by offers you'll probably receive though. It's like sullivan and scrappy said, newegg is practically giving these away at 300$ a pop with free ship and double boxed. Definitely makes things difficult for the rest of us.
