  1. Please contact her for price but she is reasonable.
  2. I just drove north about a month ago by Glacier National Park to grab these LaScalas, but can't get the K-horns out of my head for the corners of my room.
  3. Hopefully by paying this forward I will eventually find me some beauties- lol. Here are some pics she texted me.
  4. http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/ele/4808607406.html I was going to try to grab these, but unfortunately they are cost prohibitive for me to get to Idaho. I negotiated an excellent price with her from what she was asking and she sent me lots of pictures. Unfortunately I will have to continue my search for some K-horns that are closer to me. The serial numbers on these are 4L754 and 4L737. They look pristine. She said they were inside a custom wall unit and that they came with the house. Weird- like finding a classic car in a barn.
  5. I prefer the LaScalas when listening to music hands down! They are more detailed and fill the room with music. The RF-7's are more harsh on the highs and don't fill the room with sound quite as well even at the same actual volume (which I have to turn my Emotiva pre/pro up about 5-6 db to be just as "loud" as the LaScalas with the RF-7's). My room is 18 by 46, so was looking for a set of Klipschorns when I found these last month. They were $650 so I couldn't pass them up. I drove to the south end of Glacier National Park and picked them out of a cabin in the woods. They were hooked to an old Harmon Kardon Citation V tube amp. When I brought them home I immediately changed out the crossovers for Bob Crites stuff to keep them working for years to come. Now I'm torn on leaving my room as is or going for the Klipschorns. I listen to the LaScalas with twin SW-115's. Either way I will probably keep the LaScalas but get them a dedicated amp or monoblocks and pre/pro. I'm also looking at getting back into vinyl. When watching movies I prefer the RF-7's mainly because my RC-64 doesn't voice match very well. I've been considering using two Heresy's as a center just to see if I like it.
  6. K-33 woofers instead of K-43. And the bass bins are connected with alligator clips. The originals didn't even have insulators on them. I changed them out for insulated ones when I added the new crossovers.
  7. And another couple of pics! I posted mine because I have never seen anything like them.
  8. Yeah this one will do 11-bands for the right, left, center, right and left surrounds. It has no EQ for the rear surrounds (channels 6 and 7). It has a three band for the sub. What I do like is it appears that the 11 bands can be set based on the frequency range of each speaker. So if you are cutting the speakers at 80hz you get 11 bands above that with the ability to set the Q width of each of the bands (if I understand that correctly). Very cool! I'm going to get a mic and REW to start playing! Any recommendations on a mic? Radio Shack decibel meter or the MiniDSP UMK-1. I have a Sony Vaio laptop with hdmi out.
  9. Greetings all, I figured I would give you a quick review of my Emotiva Fusion 8100. First a little history- I am a brand new Emotiva customer, but I have been watching them from a distance for a few months, reading all kinds of reviews, forum posts, etc. I currently have a hook-up to buy Denon and Marantz stuff through a dealer buddy of mine. I was giving some serious thought to the Marantz 7008 or the Denon 4520ci (the last of the Japan built receivers). Unfortunately I was turned off to the Denon mainly due to the reviews not being as favorable as the Marantz. Instead of getting a new receiver, I decided to go the cheap route and just add a new separate amp to my Yamaha RX-V2500. I had just purchased a pair of RF-7II’s to add to my RC-64II, swapping out a set of RF-82II’s. I thought I’d breathe a little fire into the front stage, so I ordered an XPA-3 Gen2 for my left, right, and center. I was super impressed with the sound of my XPA-3 using my RX-V2500 as a pre-amp for the fronts and an actual amp for my four surrounds. I was super happy, but wanted an HDMI receiver with Bluetooth. I was so impressed with the build quality of the XPA that a month later I decided to go ahead and get the Fusion with the cash from the sale of my RF-82’s. What I like: Packaged very well, and the build quality is awesome. It’s on par with the Japanese stuff and has a metal face. At 25 pounds it’s a tank for such a thin receiver. In fact with my Oppo BDP-83SE stacked with it, it’s still not as tall as my XPA-3. The sound is warm and detailed. My definition of “warm” is the speaker is extremely detailed, but the treble is not over-powering making it tiring to listen to. The lower bass frequencies aren’t lacking and there is a punch to the bass. That being said, don’t expect this right out of the box. When I first hooked it up it made my RF-7’s it sounded like they were right in my face. The treble was harsh and the bass was somewhat lacking. I left the Fusion on for about three days straight playing music. It now produces a warm sound and is awesome! I love the fact that the HDMI stays on the last video source when you switch to music. The Fusion’s Cirrus DAC’s seem to be on par with my BDP-83SE for 7.1. I have it hooked up both ways and in switching back and forth it sounds almost the same for movies in the mids and highs. There might be a little more detail using the Oppo’s DAC’s, but as far as bass, my subs sound so my better using the Fusion to do the processing through its DAC’s via HDMI. As for 2-channel CD listening there is still no comparison. The Oppo’s stacked DAC’s sound superior to me. The Bluetooth sounds pretty darn good even though I have an iPhone that doesn’t have Apt-X. I’m considering the apple TV route – I would be interested on any feedback anyone has on that. What I don’t like: The room correction only fully optimizes for 5.1. It will calculate the distance of your rear surrounds, the frequency cut-off, and sound level; however, it will not do any equalizing for the 6th and 7th channels. In addition you can’t even manually use the parametric EQ for the rear surrounds. You can however go crazy with the EQ of the other five channels, and it even gives you three bands for the sub. Was this the case with the UMC-200? Do I have a setting wrong I wonder? Maybe I just don't understand how to make that work yet. That being said, the auto EQ room correction to me sounds harsh and fatiguing in the treble anyways so I'm not using it. I wasn’t a fan of the auto EQ portion of YPAO either and I always just set it as Flat which is what I did with the Fusion. Don't expect it to get the cut-off for your sub right either. I manually set it to 80hz. There is a very slight hum in my front three speakers through the XPA-3 when the volume is completely down hooked to the Fusion. This was not the case with my Yamaha being used as a pre-amp. I may be a little picky though as the hum goes away when music is played even at the lowest volume setting and you literally almost have to put your ears up to the horns of the front speakers to hear any hum at all. Any buyer’s remorse? - I have absolutely no regrets on my decision; however, I have formed an opinion that my ten year old Yamaha RX-V2500 is still a legit performer so I will be keeping it! I now have it upstairs on my Forte’s for two channel listening. At first there was a definite difference in sound between the Fusion and the Yamaha. Now after the Fusion has been on for a few days straight that sound gap has closed. The Fusion/XPA-3/RF-7II combo sounds much more detailed and has just the right amount of very tight effortless bass. In fact there is so much bass that I don’t use my subs for music at all. The Forte/Yamaha combination is not quite as detailed, but it may be because these speakers are from 1986 and have never been capped. If you have any questions or want me to experiment further let me know. Maybe next year I will pull the trigger on Emotiva’s XMC-1, but for now I’m very pleased!
  10. If I really like what I hear I will strongly consider their new XMC-1, since I will have a discount card, an XPA-5 Gen 2 and a couple of their new XPA-1L Gen 2 mono blocks for the RF-7 II's next year.
  11. I'm excited to get mine! I will be replacing a Yamaha RX-V2500 that has been a powerhouse rated at 130 watts per channel. That being said it was tested by Sound and Vision as actually having 158 watts at 0.1% distortion back in 2004 or 2005. Once driving five channels it was rated at 64 watts per channel, and I'm sure it's much lower when driving all seven like it has been for the last several years in my theater. My decision was between the Marantz 7008,the Denon 4520ci, and the Emotiva Fusion 8100. Sound and Vision tested the 7008 at 2 channels driven at 122 watts at 0.1% distortion, 101 watts driving five channels, and 68 watts driving all seven. This little Fusion is pretty much going to run 110 watts per channel when driving 2 channels at 0.05% distortion and the rated 65 watts per channel driving all 7 at 0.05% distortion basically matching the Marantz. What sealed the deal for me was my first Emotiva product that arrived four weeks ago, an XPA-3 Gen 2, to drive my three front speakers (RF-7 II's and an RF-64 II). I've been running it with the Yamaha as a preamp then using the Yamaha as an amp to drive the surrounds. This is exactly how I will have it configured with the Fusion. Based on the reviews of the UMC-200, I'm expecting it to spank the Marantz and Denon in terms of headroom and sound quality. I've tracked it and it's sitting at my local UPS waiting for delivery. Unfortunately I have to leave town on business until Wednesday so no playing until then. This was a tough decision for me especially since I have a hook to get the Marantz and Denon stuff through a part time job/hookup for a great price! Not to mention the build quality of probably the last Denon built in Japan. I was sold on my Oppo BDP-83SE years ago and I think Emotiva is throwing down this type of performance/sound quality. Even though my XPA is built in China (and my Oppo too), I'm seeing the quality that we have seen come out of Japan. If my Fusion has that build quality I will be nothing but impressed and satisfied. I post now because the jury is out for me as well- I'll keep you posted! Trent
  12. I received the SW-115's and they are installed. Unfortuantely the RC-64 II is on backorder so it may be a while. My first impressions of the SW-115's is they weren't much more than the SW-112's right out of the box. They are much bigger and heavier, but weren't twice as much bass or anything. I started playing with things and they are very different than the SW-112's in sound. I watched several movie clips and listened to some music. In the new TRON movie the recognizers flying around just shake the house. The crashes in the light cycle scene are pretty awesome too. I watched the beginning of Avatar where the ship enters the autmosphere and lands. It shakes the ground like you were there. I listened to some Dire Straits, Tom Petty, U2, and watched a bit of the Eagles Concert in DTS. The deeper notes are defineately there as the range is extended from the SW-112's and much easier to hear. After playing for a while I would rate the volume at maybe 1.2 times louder than the already capable SW-112's, but when the hertz start to drop you can still hear the SW-115's where the SW-112's fell off and became silent. I was also suprised how musical these are for a 15" sub. I was expecting them to not be that impressive, but they sound pretty good. I played some Trey Songz, Wiz Khalifa, Notorious BIG and some Dre too. Yep- they get down there. I prefer listening to my Forte's by themselves in full range, but a block party with these things in the garage on top of the Fortes cut at 80hz would be fun!
  13. Thanks for the kind comments and advice. When I get the new stuff I'll try my wife's Canon 60D to get some more clear pictures- lol
  14. Thanks! I was trying to figure it out. I posted these in the gallery and then grabbed the URL's. The full room picture is just before people started to show up for the superbowl a year ago (2012), so the room is a little busy! You can also still see my old Polk speakers mounted above the RF-82 II's before I got the RB-51 II's to replace them. The other picture I just took a few days ago so that I can do a photo comparison after the upgrade.
  15. Hello, I'm new to post, but I have been reading here for some time. I have been looking for a lot of information on the SW-115's and have found really nothing to compare them to. I thought about doing the internet sub thing, but decided to stay with Klipsch. I have decided to upgrade my theater downstairs. I will be trading out a pair of SW-112's for a pair of SW-115's. I will also be upgrading to an RC-64 II from an RC-62 II. I hope to be able to provide some good comparison information on the upgrades by maybe this weekend if they come in. I will be mating the RC-64 II with a pair of RF-82 II's; however, I will likely upgrade to RF-7 II's next year. My theater room is more of a rectangular shaped great room measuring 18 feet wide by 46 feet long. I'm looking for a little extra kick on the sub side of things and more clear dialog. I use my Oppo BDP-83SE to process everything I play out of it since I have an old legacy style receiver which still is a great sounding amp for it's age. I plan to upgrade it too, but probably not until after I get the RF-7 II's. I can't use the YPAO to tune the blu-ray so I just measure to the speakers and use a decent sound meter. I set all of the speakers to small. I do use the YPAO for everything else and usually just check my manual setttings in the Oppo against the YPAO. I only have one sub pre-out on this receiver, so I just use a Y-adapter to both subs. I then use Y-adapters again at both subs and plug into both RCA's so hopefully I'm not loosing much of the signal (any constructive comments greatly appreciated). When we watch movies I use the RF-82 II's and the RB-51 II's for left and right. I then have four RS-42 II's along the walls with two ending up behind the sweet spot. I'll try to post a couple of pics.
