Here! I'll throw in a wrench...

My dad just told me he has a pair of Bose 701 floorstanding speakers for me when I move into the new house.

I really don't like Bose, and I wouldn't want to sell my dad's speakers.

These could work temporarily though while I save up for some RF-7s.

Thoughts on the Bose 701s with the Klipsch RB-35s?

Would I move the RB-35s as rears?

I've not heard the 701s, but I grew up listening to my dads 901s powered by Harmon Kardon which I thought were great for casual music listening (go ahead...flame on).  I wouldn't sell my dads speakers either.

That being said, I would not pair them with Klipsch in a system.  They're incompatible IMO.

I've picked those ************* up and turned them over or moved them so many times now that I will never drag them :blink2:

Of course, 45 more pounds will be added to each box once the drivers are loaded.  So there's that :emotion-19:

Yeah, i'm not planning on loading the driver in my sub until i drag the box upstairs and get it into final position.

You're kicking my arse in the sub building business BTW...i think i've been working on mine for nearly 6 months!

I chose red birch and stained cherry (Watco Danish Oil). Love how they came out. With the red birch (which is not very RED to begin with), one can pretty much stain to a wide variety of colors.

This really looks nice, but why would you choose birch over cherry if you were going for the cherry color?

None of the seams are too shallow where they need filling.  There are maybe 4 that have a slight overhang of around 1/16" beyond being flush.  I could try and sand it all down to the right level, or fill beneath the overhang with a gradual slope of wood filler or bondo.  I thought filling the little bit of overhang would be easier and a better result?  The kits really were key in having such a nicely finished box without having to cut anything off.

I used a chisel to take off a few high edges.  The edges i took down were very slight to where they were more easily felt than seen.

  5. Wow, you're really moving on these.  Looks like they're coming together really well and I bet that mahogany veneer is going to look fantastic.

So I need a good filler -- recommendations?

My sub had only one small low spot so i just used a bit of regular wall spackle to fill it in.  I wasnt too worried about the bond between the spackle and MDF since it was just one small low spot.  I probably would have used bondo if it were any bigger or closer to the edge, but I hate working with that stuff due to the smell.

Second, I will be priming the cabinet with a sanding sealer of some sort...again a recommendation is very welcome!  also roll on, brush on....spray?

I am planning to use Tried and True Stain + Finish which is a polymerized linseed oil (http://www.triedandtruewoodfinish.com/products-landing/stain-finish/).  I chose that because I'll need to do my finishing inside our home and i didnt want to stink up the place with fumes.  If i had a ventilated climate controlled space, i probably would have gone with regular minwax stain and polyurethane like what Scrappy did on his recent speaker build.

I know I need a spackle tool to apply and smooth the filler, I have some sandpaper already...anything else I need before prepping for veneer?

Do you have a veneer scraper?  I used this one http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Veneer-Scraper-for-Backed-Veneers.html# and it worked well.

I'm very impressed with the finish and how well it goes with the flooring.  Really a nice choice and job.  Did you stain the cabinet or just leave as is?

It's actually still completely unfinished in that photo...just raw veneer.  I've ordered a quart of the Tried and True Stain & Finish in Cherry, but i'm still waiting on it to be delivered.  I needed something with no VOC's so i could work indoors without stinking up the house with fumes.

I've often wondered why they don't have surrounds that match the RF-7ii, actual compression drivers and wrapped in veneer.  They're already building the THX surrounds in Hope, shouldn't be that much bigger of a deal to use veneer and copper woofers.

Agreed, it would be nice if the RS-62IIs had been available with the top and bottom pieces veneered like the Palladium surrounds.

  8. Welcome to the forum pete.

I'd try plugging it into the jack with the number 6 next to it.  I'm just basing that on the handy graphic they put on the back of that model.

You don't need to split the cable.

    Hope you stay around.
