  1. Im impressed, EL84 tubes amps rock! you ears will thank you as if they haven't already .........

On my side currently blowing fuses in my La Scallas cranking Slipknot breakin in new Crites Crossovers.

Runnin KT88s on my end. you sir have achived peace within.

  2. I emailed the guy and offered $650, because that is what they have been going for a couple times a year around these parts, he just said perhaps I should just wait for the couple times a year.

    Fine, his loss.

You need to work on your craigslist skills. Don't haggle until you're face to face, and certainly don't throw price statistics in the seller's face via email. Show up ready to take and pay full price, haggle from there.

Remember speakers aint cars, you cannot test drive them first, im not driving 404 miles and be willing to pay $850 bones for a couple of wooden boxes.

When I buy used speakers I expect the worse, can you imagian the cost of replacing everything in a LaScalla ?

Before I plan a trip id like to at least have some of the cost incurred, done, this guy would not send a pic.

Handling other things in life perhaps, however I like to do my research, and say it like it is. in this deal the wife and I would both be taking Monday off, diesel expense, motel, and likely a casino or two, this trip could cost around 5 bones on the cheap, so yeah im going to take a shot and really don't care. I am always shopping for a La Scalla deal, and it WILL happen just like my last 60+ deals.....thanx for your input.

  4. For the few that I use, Blue jeans is just fine, double shielded and their connections the fittings are great.

Why is your neighbor pissed off?

The guy now goes out of his way not to talk to me, I figure its the music, could be his new wife, because a year or so back he came over for music and a beer, he's a youngin and is into Tool, so I gave him a dose @17 watts may have spoiled him.

    Oh, I see. Loud music.

Excuse me, that would be .......Loud Quality Music.

  5. Vintage Altec & Klipsch speakers (Roseburg)

    I have:

    * A very nice pair of Klipsch La Scala speakers (Black version) recently rebuilt crossovers. Very nice shape and sounding good. $850.00.................

    link

Oh crap, as soon as I show the wife this, all she will say is "Road Trip" ? just so happens Feather Falls indian casio is at exit 99. this she WILL rermember.

    Thanks for the Tip Weber.

404 miles, well, not bad. oh what the hell, what harm can an email do ?

Just shot off the email, made an offer for the LaScalls. let's see how this pans out.

Superbowl weekend, there should be Zero traffic, yeah I could do this.......

  9. Sometimes I get it right, I was correct in figuring a two day slow ramp up to half power in the new Crites crossovers.

Today being the second day, started @17 watts for an hour, then started getting into the heavy metal because I wanted to get that base blossoming,

30 min into the Melvins and Avenged Sevenfold, the base came through, pictures falling off the walls, PC monitor moving on the desk, yeah I think iv got it.

Going for a Guinness, I open the mancave reffer and three cans came out on the floor, it seems they were dancing in the fridge!

No neighbors, no cops, just the wife wandering in asking me to play it again........

  10. i see you have been running tubes for about 5 years i have now for about 4 yrs. still have some solid states but there used for r&b and movies. everything else is tube.

Well iv been running two channel tubes for ten years but I do not count the first five, learning curve.

Involved in electronics since 10 years old, but my tube stuff was all SSB/Ham linear amps, slowly phasing out of the Ham world.

Class 'A' Amps, tube, once acquired is my passion now.

40+ years talking to the world as a Ham operator has not given me the feeling I can get with an hour of Class A listening.

  11. Mark, your observations about audio being the only place where people will debate the legitimacy of someone's opinions (if that's a fair summary) is definitely interesting. It's actually something I've been noticing, but lacked the right context and words to express it meaningfully. That said, I started thinking about these other areas ( like paintings and wine and whatnot) and realized that it might actually happen there too. It just takes a different form, and I think a large part of that could be related to the fewer demographics involved. Was your post on this in the other thread? It's a bit brutal searching with a phone, but I wanted to quote it and expand further.

Dean, could you post those articles again here so I can find it in the "My Content" section? I didn't get in before the lock ( which is weak sauce btw).

'Debate the legitimacy of someone's opinions' dam Doc, never thought of it like that. im just a simple workin joe who ran solid state for 30+ years, went to tubes about 10 years ago, learned tubes for the first five, been enjoying tube systems for the last five, and now for the rest of my days.

  12. Screaming deal there 'J', if I was 2500 miles closer this would be a done deal.

You will have little problem selling them for that kind of scratch.

If however your future plans include moving out west, maybe we could work something out.

  13. Hearing the artist fingers sliding up and down the strings, is, well........ heaven.

Aint nothing like tubes, 30 years I ran solid state , some of the Bad boy amps of yesteryear, only been into tubes about 5 years.

SS has its place, in Bass, anything Bass, tubes however handle mids and highs. just cannot beat them. ---IMO---

  14. Im one hour out from complete assembly, two hours from a highly probable visit by Roseville PD.

As far as conductors? this is a Bob Crites design, know when to NOT ask questions from the master, im not, I trust Bob's work.

Taking a min out for dinner, wife comes into the lab and see's a bottle of Lagavulin on the bench, soldering iron in one hand, new "fresh" 12ga wires in the other, all she says is dinner is ready.
