  1. Built-in preamps (at least on Pro-Ject) limit one's flexibility to use other and possibly better pre-amps. (They can't easily be by-passed). And ... if the built-in pre-amp fails (as mine did) the TT is unusable unless you find someone who can open the unit up and work a by-pass of the pre-amp.Pro-Ject makes a good table with a cheap pre-amp which is subject to failing about the same time your warranty runs out based on my experience. I bought it to get the USB feature. Big mistake since we fell in love with vinyl all over again and never used it. Fortunately I know a guy who works in a stereo shop who was able to work the by-pass for 60 bucks.

I do agree that the 2M Red is a nice sounding cart.

  2. Happy Tuesday guys. Thanks for all of the fabulous pictures Gary. Enjoy the Volvo with LF, Chuck. I had one in the fairly distant past and recall that they are fine cars and built to last. Yesterday was fairly busy but the day wound up with a fine concert at Denver Botanic Gardens ... saw Ricky Skaggs, Ry Cooder and Sharon White as part of their tour.  I think Skaggs and Cooder have some 20 Grammies between them. If you have any liking for the genre (bluegrass, etc) this is a good show to catch.

    Cheers to all!!

  3. Mornin' and happy fathers day everybody. Nice cards and beautiful flowers from my sweetie and Baxter. Hoping to hear from the kids soon. Also trying to catch up on the yard after almost 2 weeks away but too hot to stay out for long. Will probably skip planting more stuff this year.

    Cheers!!

  4. Mornin' guys. Just back from Germany. Recovering from mild jet lag. It's a long flippin' trip for us but a great trip. Will try to get some pics uploaded soon and see how they look. Thanks to my daughter we stayed in Ansbach (they live there) and took day or partial day trips to Nuremberg, Wurzburg, Ludwigsburg (just outside Stuttgart) and Rothensburg. Fabulous sightseeing and food. And, yes Gary, we got some shots of at least one big a** pipe organ!! (Couldn't get very close, however). The best part of the trip? Spending time with my kid and our 3 year old grandson! Can't wait till they come back to the States, by which time we'll have 2 grandsons (she is due in late Aug/early Sept. and they should be back in about next May).

    Cheers to all. Missed ya!!

  5. Mornin' gang from Germany. Had a great trip over here. All on time, just really long. So far just visiting with the kids. Will venture out more this week. Everyone's been sick before we arrive but mostly on the mend now. We did make it to a local festival and out to dinner last night. Missed you guys. Will check in as much as schedule permits. Will be here till the 15th. Chuck.

  6. Mornin' guys. Last post here before our Germany trip to see the kids. Frankfurt is a long way from Colorado but it will be worth it. Will try to check back in from our destination. I really appreciate the fellowship here guys. Blessings and cheers to all.

  7. Mornin all. Just got caught up on yesterday. More confirmation of why I should NEVER touch plumbing.

Happy Birthday, MKP!! Have a great day.

Our trip to Germany is a little later this week so I probably will drop off for a while. Will try to check in some time after we get there. Still have a lot of trip prep to do amidst household chaos with the painter. This too will pass, Cheers everyone.

  8. Ahhh...yes......plumbing ..... The best approach is to confidently state 'I don't mess with it' as though you just have better things to do. The truth is that I may not have enough homeowners coverage to take care of the !!%## - ups of which I am capable in this area. Usually get a buddy to 'help' while I supervise.

Pretty day and I'm heading outside for most of it. Need to hit Best Buy first and pick up a new 'puter first. Will keep you posted.

    Cheers guys.

before we tear this critter apart

    Are you reverse engineering one?

    S,C and C thread.

Edit  I figured out it was S C and T

Yes, i did mess that up, i went there so as not to mess with tarheels thread too much, the other reason was i was nippin at the scotch :o

No way to mess up my thread....no rules :)   I do try to mention coffee or cables every hundred pages or so.

Had some coffee this morning and I can see a cable running along the floor. Am I on topic??

Mornin' all. The sunshine is back and everyone here is starting to feel human again. Heading across the pond next week to see the kids and can't wait. Today will be spent making lists and moving our crap out of the way for the painter. Amazing how much the corners of a room can attract piles of stuff. My home office is a disaster after closer inspection. Oh well.

    Happy Friday guys and cheers.

  10. Just can't let this go without mentioning audio quality. I'm using an Oppo 95 in our 2 ch system at present (yeah, I know it's underutilized). Bought it second hand after choking on the prices of 'audiophile' cdp's. Huge upgrade over the Marantz we had been using (esp in pure' audio mode) and the Marantz was a very good player. Every review I've seen says pretty much the same regarding the SQ of the 105 but no personal experience with it. We do have a 103 in a separate HT system and I'd give it a good plus rating for both PQ and SQ. I know I'm a bit off topic but thought another perspective might assist. Good luck with your choice.

  11. Hey gang .... our painter is still here and making progress .... slowly. We're still getting some rain late in the day but able to work on some outdoor projects. All the precip translates into snow at higher elevations and some of the ski areas are going to stay open into June, according to the morning news today. The only prob is increased avalanche danger in the back country. Every year a few folks tempt fate and bite the big one.

Have a great day all. Cheers.

  12. Mornin' all. We are getting our upper level painted this week and the joint is in disarray. I still have delusions of doing the lower level myself. We'll see. Baxter is visibly p.o.'ed that his house is different with furniture pulled out, etc.

Carl, my sympathies on all the rain. We've had a lot, but nothing like your area. Chuck, that front porch looks great and so does LF. Maybe you guys can start some guitar duets.

    Cheers.

  13. Lots to get caught up on. So much so that the only guy that got a formal 'like' since I last posted is Jake. Cool shades. Need to keep up better.

Super lazy Memorial Day after the grass cutting and trimming. In between rain showers I did make good progress on the covered patio project in terms of cosmetics. No big plans for the week other than that project and starting to get ready to go see the kids in Germany in early June.

duder ... congrats on the well. Try to check back in a bit.

  14. Happy Memorial Day guys. I was off catching up a little on outdoor projects yesterday. Same today.

Chuck, that deck looks terrific. We have a level lot so no deck. My project has been rehabbing a fairly good size covered patio after some years of neglect. Starting to look pretty good but there's more to do. Good project for an old fart retiree. It's also good business for my message therapist.

We kicked off Memorial Day on an appropriate note last night watching American Sniper. Highly recommended. Great on surround sound too.

Have a peaceful day and cheers to all.

  15. OMG, there's this strange brightness in the sky peeking through the cloud cover. Could it be?? I recall reading about this 'sun' thing at some point in the distant past. We'll see. Stay tuned.

Mornin' gang and happy long weekend. Great looking deck, MKP. Wish I had one like that!! I don't mind the painting, it's all the crap that goes with it, as in prep. my paint project is mostly at the stage of actually applying paint but it's been to ****ing rainy and wet to do it for at least a week.

Be safe and well, guys, and, cheers. Check back later.

  16. Friday greetings guys. Starting to realize how much weather affects moods .... ours continues to suck. This will really play hell with our bragging rights about "Sunny Colorado." Of course, as one who has settled into retirement pretty much, it encourages me to be even lazier than usual! Big plans for the day are a haircut, Baxter's walk (between rain episodes) and finding a movie to watch in the HT tonight for date night with better half. Exhausting, I know, but worth it.

Chuck, Jake says he's just 'big boned' and not fat. Baxter agrees and wants to get on the same diet plan.

Later folks .....and cheers to all.

  17. Happy Thursday guys. Crummy weather continues here but it's given me time to work on some old tunes I like. Still no calls from Carnegie hall or Nashville, however. Damn the bad luck!

Mark, I love the speakers. Afraid I'd have to get some foundation work if I had those, but they look and probably sound fantastic.

Have a great day everyone and, of course, cheers.

  18.

One of my all time favorite groups, along with Marshal Tucker, Outlaws. Molly H, CDB, Wet Willie, ABB.

Many might ont agree with me on this. I see the progression as first Country Rock,

Sir Douglas Quinter, the Byrds with Gram Parsons, Gram with Mick and Keef on Exile, Flying Burrito Brothers. From there you have both ZZ Top come out in 69, and CCR had many southern, swamp rock songs. From there LS evolves, ADD band goes from R&B to blues jam band to southern rock.

Mojo lists them very high in their main book, but I am guessing not to influential.

Good points. Another ex-Byrd whose work influenced many others was Gene Clark. (Dillard & Clark). Bernie Leadon worked with Clark before he became an Eagle. Chris Hillman was important and Roger McGuinn too. Some argue they made the Eagles possible or at least paved the way for them. Their work has been described as fusing folk, country, etc

Somewhere in this mix there has to be room for Chuck Berry. He certainly influenced the Beatles, the Stones (see the video 'Hail, Hail Rock 'n Roll') and many others.  Fats Domino has a place in all of this too, imo.

I realize that not all of these guys made popular albums (and to that extent I may be getting off topic a little)  but it's easy to confuse what was popular and what was influential and 'important.' Sometimes it's not the same thing.

    Cheers.

  19. Afternoon all. Didn't post this morning. Pretty decent but slow day. Had to get my crummy back worked on by a brutal message therapist but it will help.

duder ... sorry about your well situation. Hope it turns out ok. Bummer. Mark, same for your ebay deal.

Another day of 'weather'. Major attitude adjustment will be in order if this keeps up. A couple of doo-*** tunes should help so will fire up the instrument. Cheers, dammit.

  20. Mornin' all. Been preoccupied with outdoor stuff the past couple of days and now trying to get caught up here. The rain is back and lousy forecast for the week, so projects are on hold again.

Gary, those are great pics and a great story. Keep 'em coming. Guess they wouldn't appreciate my country/rock on an incredible instrument like that! (We did do some jammin' last week). When we travel to Germany, we always make a point of touring a cathedral or two and the first thing I look for is the organ loft. Will be going again in a couple of weeks.

Chuck, love your clematis. Ours is starting to bloom too. MKP, let us know which grill you get (pics).

    Happy Monday.
