  1. I'm currently using an AVR1700, 5.1 but only in stereo mode. The speakers are positioned in the corner, they will move closer to the wall soon, but so far I've tested them about 3 feet off the wall. The bass is okay, its not insufficient, actually I'd say the mids being a little washed out is the bigger problem.

This new line of "green" H/K receivers -- I wonder if its not as warm as the older/higher end H/K receivers? The bass is ok, but the highs seem to be much more noticeable than the mids. Especially on something like electronica/trance. Whereas more acoustic/jazz/laid back music sounds quite good.

I had my H/K AVR 1710 hooked up to my RF 83s and experienced the same thing you describe here. I ended up replacing it with a Denon X4000. Same thing happened when I hooked up my AVR 1565 to my RB 75s. Replaced that with a Yamaha R S700. Now the H/K sounds fine with my WF 35s. I don't know what it is about these H/K avrs and Reference series speakers, but they are not a good combo to my ears at all. I'm sure others will disagree, but that's just my opinion.

My advice, try another brand and see if it isn't better to your ears also.

  2. I just bought a pair a few weeks ago for $650. They are black. The only other pair that was for sale close to me was about 2 yrs ago and they were asking $800. They were cherry and included some stands. I bought off ebay. Seller was originally asking $895.

$650 was the max I would have paid. I don't know if that is a good price or not, but they rarely come up for sale, so I jumped on them.

  3. Smart man.  Unusual (?) wife in that regard?  Have no idea, really, if the ladies are as often interested in AV stuff as the guys, or not.  Does not seem likely, but I do not know.  I do know my own wife asks only that she "not hear static".  Anything else, she is fine.  Would be interesting if there were some sound data, or better yet, some responses from female forum members.  Am not aware that I know any women who really are involved, either.

Female here! I'm the one who is interested in audio, my husband doesn't care about it. He is nice enough to buy me speakers though. I wish he was into it like all the men on here. I wouldn't complain one bit!

You can see what speakers I have in my sig and right now I am waiting on Fedex to get here with a pair of RB75s for my bedroom.

  4. Have you looked at the section on HDTracks website that tells you about the different file types you can download? They have a list of which type will play with different players. Check that out and it will give you an idea of which players to try. Don't know if they are free or not. I use a Mac, so I don't know anything about Windows.

  5. Download to PC. Once they have your email address, they'll start sending you discount codes. The first they sent me was 25% off my first purchase. Seems like a get a new email with codes every week or so.

To the others that say they have downloaded samplers, do the samplers change? Can you download more than one sampler if they do change? Reading a couple of the posts, it sounds like some of you have downloaded more than one sampler. Or maybe I misread?

  6. Thanks for responding Dean. I sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago, don't know if you've read it or not. If you haven't, could you please? How long does it take to build a pair once an order is placed? I probably won't have funds to purchase until around October.

I've looked over your website, but I'm not sure which ones I should get. Don't think I'd want or need the ones that can be adjusted.

  7. How do just the RB 35s sound by themselves?

My 3 1/2 yr. old son told me the other day he wanted speakers for his room, so I figured I'd get him some bookshelf speakers for his birthday. I want to get him some that I would enjoy listening to also.
