  1. Klipsch LaScala and S.E.T. Tube amp deal of a life time. Both for only $1790.00 Amp is from Highly Regarded AMPSANDSOUND. The sound is so sweet, you might just need to keep kleenex close by… it sounds that good. pics here> http://lafayette.craigslist.org/ele/5441344164.html Thanks for looking Dave Lafayette, Louisiana feel free to call 337-591-0910
  2. I know i am late to this. But I am playing my Lascalas using a Big Ben from AmpsandSound. They are amazing. Now, since I have more money, I am wondering if going to mono-blocks would make it even better. I suggest you Get in touch with Justin @ Amps and Sound
  3. SET of course and plenty power for the LS's. It looks great too. Talked to Justin a long time, his input most valuable! Price point was acceptable. its kinda like the story about porrage and the three bears. It is just right! PWK said, " what we need is a good 5 watt amp" I have an extra watt!
  4. Justin, Yes, I was comparing the LS to Maggies ( 1.7). I used to own Snells. As you know, It can be very difficult to compare sounds with out doing the instant A/B thing. Also, when it comes to Audio stuff like many things in life, one could easily find that place of never ending change, buy try, etc. I do need to get with you for help with converting files. MacBook Pro ( USB) to Stealth DC1 ( emotiva) to Big Ben to ( jon risch's cross connect technology) to LS's LOL ... RISCH TO KLIPSCH! In the end, the LaScala's are very pleasing. Even more so with the SET Big Ben. BB sounds better after playing for an hour or more! I can also hear the difference in each song. I am guessing they are recorded at different times. What do you all think? I am thinking that once I get a Turn Table, and get to listen to some of my half mastered vinyl, they will sound even better. Does anyone have a good turntable/ cartridge they are thinking about selling? and yes, life is getting better on all fronts....thx! ;-)
  5. It has taken me awhile to post this. Lots of personal issues that had to be resolved. At any rate, I just wanted to say thank you to Justin Weber for the advise, and helping me to get my system set up, running and sounding great. There are many wonderful vendors here. Justin is certainly one of them. After much reading and question asking, I decided on SET Big Ben to power my LaScalas. BB is incredible and the sound is everything I have been waiting for some 3 score or more. Justin flat out knows what works and how to put it all together. I am MAC to DAC to SET amp and then Lascalas circa 1999. I am going to build the Jon Risch's cross connect co ax speaker cables next. I will be replacing the stock cross over with Al's. Later I will replace the Mid-Range Sqwaker with Fast Lane Audio wood Tractrix horn. I truly like the LaScalas and the the Big Ben accurate luscious sound.
  6. Ok, the kinds of music i listen to... It would be easier to say what I don't care for. That would be rap, heavy metal etc. Since I used to own Snell type A that should give an idea. I am looking for accuracy and enough volume to sound full not public address loud.... if you get my drift. I played in concert and Jazz bands in my younger years. Currently is still have a number of 1/2 MASTERED LP's. A few Tel_arc etc. Solti and the planets. I like Folk, Classical, and old R&R , moody blues, Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffett, Gordon Lightfoot, Emmylou Harris, Jethro Tull, Blood sweat and tears, Cat Stevens, modern stuff by Ray Lynch etc. I am thinking the Heresy would hit the sweet spot for price and accuracy. If I were to add a sub, they might come close enough to the Cornwall's so that it won't be that much of a sonic loss... specially since I would not be A compared to B ..... ing them. How many folks here like tubes v.s. SS? or visa versa?
  7. I am strongly considering the heresy3 or used Cornwall . Don't they have the same tweeter and midrange assey's
  8. Justin thx for input! Do you think the ST 120 with 60 WPC IS more than enough for the klipsch RF7ll I ask because I had a Yamaha M2 with LED power meter. It played into snells. Sound was so good make your eyes leak! Anyway, I could be listening to a tel-ark or 1/2mastered LP. With 15 watts constant ... Watts would peak over 100 during very dynamic passages... What does the collective think? Also, doesnt a tube amp have more headroom... And 60 watt tube sound like 150 watts of SS POWER! Also I have no idea how efficient the Snell's were!
  9. I don't have room for klipsch horns... Wish I did! I don't know whether to go with a tube preamp Or SS I was thinking, After listening to Bob's recommendations, of Using the Antenuator on a st120... Plugging in whatever I wanted to use at the time.. Giving me time to save up and decide... What do you think?
  10. If I would use the Emotiva XPA-1L ( MONO BLOCK) ... would any circuit noise be low enough to be irrelevant ? I know I would be spending a bit more money, but I think it is better to purchase one time ( do it right the first time) . Plus I think emotiva will allow me to try the amps and send them back if i do not like them. Has anyone listened to the Dynaco kit and compared it to a Emotiva or NAD amp set up?
  11. Hi Everyone! I have been enjoying reading here for the last few months. I finally have the money to buy a audiophile quality system ..... I think. Like so many I am stretching my sound making dollars as efficaciously as I can. To that end a few questions please. ...not that interested in home theater buy I do want to play my plasma TV through what ever I buy. .... I am on a limited budget. ...I found RF7 ll's at Amazon for ~ $1,600. Next is the amp. I was told that since the RF7ll are rated at 250 watts, I need a amp that puts out at least 200 watts. ( told this by a phone call to klipsch) That means I would have to go solid state ( SS). due to money constraints. First that does not make sense to me after looking at Klipsch's sound pressure chart. But i am thinking tubes are better. Are Tube that much better? If it is would a Dynaco VTA ST-120 with 60 watts give plenty enough head room. If I choose SS, the Emotiva line looks good. I was even thinking of by-amping the RF7ll's. Which would work/ sound better. Emotiva can do that rather inexpensively. So I guess my main question is: Would a Bob Latino Dynaco VTA ST-120 have more than enough power for the RF7ll's and yield the best possible sound for the buck? I appreciate thoughtful kind responses. I have been reading for days and not really found a definitive answer! Thanks in advance Dave
