  1. Dean what do the crossover upgrades cost? I would definitely be down if all I had to ship was the boards. Also, what other upgrades are available?
  2. I honestly feel that anything would be better than what I have experienced. For the past 6 years i have only had the stock soundbar on my 52" sharp aquos. Before that, my dad had a sony 5.1 system out of the box. It was decent at the time and really changed the home theatre experience at the time. I am not really asking which speakers are better, I was just asking what areas the heritage speakers excelled at better than the reference line. It sounds like they would be more laid back and smoother. I really don't feel that one is better than the others, but the longer i own klipsch, the more I want to follow the rabbit into wonderland. If I have it my way I will have 2-3 home theatre audio setups, just to switch it up once in a while.
  3. How much is a pair of deans crossovers?
  4. Is dean's upgrade something fairly easy to install by yourself? I would really like his upgrade, but know shipping alone would sink it for me. I would definitely be down for buying the crossover mod, and then taking it to someone nearby (lincoln ne) that knows what they are doing. Is there truly that big a difference in the listening quality?
  5. Well the basement that will be our theatre is fairly large. The only issue comes with a support beam in about the center of the whole room. If I had to guess I would say it is probably a 15x20 foot space. As of right now the television will go in a corner, my wife wanted a sectional for the basement (I wanted theatre seating, but we have to make sacrifices where necessary). It will be a little tight in the comer with the tv and the 2 rf-7s being jammed into it. The back of the couch is against that support beam, so we only have maybe a 5 foot distance to the tv. Not the ideal setup, but it is our first house... Im only 30, but I would like to acquire the tech as soon as I am able because the room can be created in a house that has a more ideal area for home theatre.
  6. What would you say each speakers benefits would be? Would 4 Khorns in the corner be good, or would it be better to use Khorns as the front left and right and use belles or la-scalas for the rear corners? Which role would each speaker class play in an idea setup?
  7. I mentioned that i recently jumped into home theatre and purchased a fleet of reference class speakers. I have started getting interested in the heritage series speakers (Khorns, la scala, belle, etc.) and was curious how these compared to the reference speakers i purchased (rf-7, rc-7, rs-7, rsw-1)? I have seen from the specs that the heritage class speakers dont really have the punch that my reference speakers have, but do they excel in areas that my reference speakers do not? Is it feasible to assemble a second set of theatre speakers consisting entirely of heritage speakers? I definitely am appealed to their furniture like appeal.
  8. I honestly don't understand what the issue is? Dean has, as he said, done this for a decade. And nobody has ever asked to put it back to stock. Review or no review, it is what it is. I honestly would find more value in a comparison of the upgraded rf7 to the newly upgraded rf7ii. If I had the opportunity to have dean fiddle with my setup, I would let him and no other touch my speakers. I have been on a few message boards with reference systems for trading and buying/selling. They are useful tools that help individuals determine a worthwhile venture or transaction. But at some point they become irrelevant. Once someone has documented themselves well enough, there isn't any value in further documenting an assured thing. In short, dean is documented and proven. There is little to be gained by requiring further input... And certainly much to be lost in the attempt to discredit, whether to dean or the discreditor. Its kind of silly to take it any further than that... So lets just agree that klipsch is second to none for home theatre in its price point and have a great time dreaming about and admiring eachothers accomplishments in this obvious common interest we all share.
  9. It is hard to remain objective when friendship comes into the picture. That said, I am certain Deans upgrade will improve the rf-7ii just as it did for the rf-7. His track record should speak for itself. Due to his knowledge of speaker composition and the ability to engineer his own upgrades, he must have advanced knowledge and understanding of what works and what doesn't. I am new to home theatre and klipsch, but I did come across Dean's legendary feats over the past several years. I wish I had the funds to commission and ship my 7s to him, sadly I don't. I am not biased when I say this, but I would think the vast majority of these boards can attest to Dean's modifications. They more than likely improve whatever he applies them to, whether those improvements justify the cost, that is something each individual would need to gauge for themselves...
  10. Hey dean, I hear you have an awesome crossover refit for the rf-7...
  11. Well that will elevate tv slightly above direct viewing angle. My other option was to get a swing arm for the tv and just forget about the direct viewing angle.
  12. I'm curious, I have tried to find a way to mount the rc-7 above the tv, but the actual speaker does not have any mounting brackets installed. Is there a way to suspend the center with some heavy duty belts? I have it sitting on my entertainment center (no tv yet) but my dad says I would be better served to set the tv on the stand to have a direct view of the tv and put less strain on the neck. It is such a large speaker, and I am hesitant to screw things into the case as I am not sure it was designed to put those stresses on it?
  13. I will probably buy used, I don't need to have a brand new in box experience as I have discovered you can get huge bangs for bucks just browsing local craigslist ads and being patient, but I will look into this x4000 and see what it is all about.
  14. I know they are rare (0 for sale online right now) but I have to get an rsw-15 to complete this klipsch production series. I don't know, im kind of a purist. Maybe once i complete this set I can look at building my own sub woofer.
  15. As far as an avr, I don't really have a budget, I would like to stay below a grand but stay close to 135 rms per channel. I honestly don't want onkyo due to the reviews I have read stating bad factory defects with hdmi boards and bad software updates. I honestly don't know much about avr, i hear some sounded warmer, some sound brighter etc. i am open to suggestions as I'm sure the audiophiles on this board would have much to say about what their preferences are. I will say that video gaming and movies will be the primary use of this theatre and not really pure music listening. What do you guys suggest? I would prefer to tech proof myself with the 4k options now, but those are tertiary to the priority of good sound.
  16. I originally experienced klipsch at a larger retail outlet back in 2008 while in the market for my first big screen tv. After hearing the deep rumbles during Star Wars episode 3 opening space sequence I was hooked. 6 years later (against my younger brothers Polk audio push) i purchased a used setup. I got 2 rf-7 (classics), an rc-7, an rsw-12, and 4 rs-7 speakers for 2,000. I thought it was a good deal, but who knows... Anyway, I haven't gotten the equipment to power them, and based on the research I have done; these speakers are extremely efficient so they wont need a ton of power to rattle my windows. Sadly 1 of the rf-7 dust comes has a dimple, and the case has a 6 inch scratch. The rc-7 was a tad scratched, but I hit it with a black stain pen and it looks pretty good. I really want to pull that dimple out, but not hesitant because I don't think it will affect the sound quality. I bought some 33 lb mounts, and had to create a custom piece to widen the bracket so the rs-7 could be mounted. Overall i think I have a great start... Now if I can only find an rsw-15 to upgrade my sub woofer...
