  1. Hello, I've been listening to my custom 2-way Belles and am getting the urge to build a bass reflex box to go along with them. After a lot of drafting and research I think the best solution for me and my room is to build a top chamber to house the 510 horn and use that chamber as the bass reflex volume -- I have seen a couple guys do this with their LaScalas to maintain a stock look. I would like the same look, BUT I would like to port out the front so I can still have them close to the rear wall in my apartment. Is there any issue with bass porting close the a full range horn? Please take a look at the elevation drawing of the proposed solution. The ports would be at the edges of the enclosure and would be heavily braced. The edge of the horn is 6" from the port. I'm not sure if the air between the two would interact negatively. just for reference, here is a link to my Belle build. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/150730-2-way-summer-project-belle-build/page-4?hl=summer Thoughts?
  2. still trying to follow up with the 510 order...
  3. The goal is 510 lens without driver. The 510 is with mumps. Outside dimensions: 15" x 9" Cut out dimensions: 13.5" x 7" with 3x mounting holes on the long edges and 2x mounting holes on the short sides.
  4. checking to see if I can still get supply?
  5. How many out there would be interested in purchasing a pair of 510s...? I may be able to swing an order.
  6. I can picture the 402 with this set up. But the rest is out of my wheelhouse for now...
  7. K510 > Faital Pro HF200 > Crites 2-way XO < Custom Belle < Kappa 15 C Amazing combo. I'm only a few hours in, but I'll be up all night enjoying my new set up. Thanks for the help from this forum and from Bob Crites. I think I will call them: JuBelles. the rest of the system: Soundsmith Ruby > Grace F9 > VPI Classic > Leben Rs 30EQ > Leben CS600 > JuBelles
  8. I'm on day two with the Kappas in my Belles. They are deep and smooth. Sound great.
  9. Still running these less than perfect with my old Cornscala parts. But I am very impressed with the overall so far. The 1" box and braces are very good. Excellent low end compared to stock Belles and LaScalas. Bob has shipped me a new pair of drivers and XOs. I should be running 2way by the end of the week if USPS comes through. Final thoughts and photos to come.
  10. Definitely 1". Can't say if the material makes a difference. My new Belles are 1" and braced. The bass is VERY solid; I will likely not be adding the reflex chamber I was planning on...
  11. A little fine birch sawdust and crazy glue can work. But work fast...!
  12. I prefer oil to poly and laquers. Not as much protection but keeps everything looking and FEELING very natural. Ages well too. I like Watco Danish Oil, Natura. Three coats usually does thin veneer well. Rub it in with 200-400 grit sandpaper, wipe off access before it dries. Wait 24 hours in between coats. After the last coat, I knock down the shine with 000 steel wool. Re coat yearly, or never.
  13. Since you are crossing at 500 Hz. for a Belle, the high frequency performance of this woofer is hard to beat. I also has tighter bass. Go for it. Besides, it's the best bang for the buck out there without a doubt. Claude, you like the 15C over the Crites Castframe?
  14. What's the best replacement woofer for the Belle?
  15. also, I am loving the 'open horn' look on top... having less wood and boxes, certainly makes them feel smaller than a full pair of Belles. I think the light colour and lack of dark grills helps too. It's kinda cool to be able to see all the way back into the horn fold.
  16. Mine is simple birch ply with 3 coats of Watco Natural Danish oil rubbed on with 320-400 grit sandpaper. Let it dry a week, and then a light rub with 000 steel wool. I am getting a little anxious with drivers and XO... both ALK and Bob C are back ordered... I'd love to get this up and running as a 2-way as soon as possible...!
  17. hello, this is coming a little late, but work and personal issues prevented finishing the horns for many weeks. BUT, I am pleased to share that I got them up and running yesterday as a 3-way. There is still a fair amount to be desired due to the imperfect XO. but there is definitely reason to be excited. I have just put in the order for the Faital Pro HF200 driver and 500Hz crossover. More to come, as the weather in Vancouver has turned to soggy, and I am sure to spend the next 16 weeks in doors...
  18. can I ask where you acquired those and the value there of? I am in the market for a pair. PM sent
  19. How many sheets of plywood did you end up getting. 2 sheets of 1/5" 2 sheets of 3/4"... I lamented the 1/2" for the top, bottom, and sides. The 3/4" is for the rest. I bought a little extra to mock up all angle cuts before doing the 'finish' cuts. I have some extra. I am leaning towards doing the braces on the side walls, and I will likely be making a bass reflex box as well. I'll probably need to get another sheet to finish (depending on screw-ups...). Also, budget is coming into play a bit right now -- I will not be veneering these; the birch ply is looking pretty good. I may put off the full range compression driver and XO until later in the fall. I have the components in my house already to make this a decent three-way. Should be almost ready to roll them out in a week.
  20. Summer campout and parties slowed progress a little this week. But it is starting to look like something...
  21. Here is a little info on my shop space (below). It is pretty decent for $50 a month... I have access at least two evenings per week and one full day on the weekend. The best resource is actually the other members. When I have no idea how to do something, there is usually a few suggestions and helping hands. http://vancommunitylab.com/home/what-is-the-colab/creative-space/
