Happy birthday,
I wonder if I will make it that far... I'm only 25 now. I figure I'll be knee deep in Audio crap by then and would not be able to find the door to leave.

I have a monster 3600 on order. I have also found this answer at Counterpoint Electronics "new" website. Http://www.altavistaaudio.com. They also tie the buzz into that third contact. They note that only one of your units should be using the three prong cable. Because all components are grounded together by the "-" of the cables. So using more than one causes the buzz.
After using the cheater plug, touched the chassis with no harm done. [li][O]

I got my hand onto a Tube preamp from Counterpoint (the SA-3.1).
ONe problem... a buzz. The same buzz you would get by
touching the center pin on a live RCA. First I thought the
contacts may need to be cleaned. But I know that is not the
problem as when the unit is unplugged from the wall, the buzz goes
away. With it plugged in, it comes back. I does not matter
if the preamp is on or off, as long as it is plugged in, there is a
buzz.
The buzz changes volume when the RCA is plugged in to the main out or
the input out (tape out). Just for more info I also took that RCA
into the inputs on the preamp... And the buzz is also there, but
different volumes for each.
Tubes in or tubes out does not matter still buzz. All of the
connectors on rear of the unit share a common ground. It is a
metal bar that connects all of them together including the Phono
ground, then to the chassis.
I am looking for any help on this. I figured I would start here. Thanks

Thanks for input. I am going to swtich the tubes around and see if I can get one channel perfect.

I guess I wasn't absolutely clear. There is still a hum from the
woofer. I took care of the extreme right channel hum. I
think it may have been a crossed connection at the RCA input. As
I was cleaning I noticed it was corroded.
So I still have a hum and a hiss, I can hear it if I listen
closely at the listening position. With my ear at the speaker, unacceptable
noise in my opinion.
Correct me if I am wrong, but if the filter caps are dry, there is no
other way around it but to get it fixed.... Right. Am I going to
get noise from a high eff speaker regardless??? Is that just the
tube nature?
somewhat of a newbie at the tube game. Know how they work, etc,
but never troubleshot one. ANy help from you guys would be great.

In 1 weekend I have added on, what I would say, is a pretty kick @#!
Analog system. Starting with a pair of Heresy II's, I have
resurected a turntable and a powerful 2 channel tube amp.
1st I picked up a Dual 1229Q that just needed a little TLC. A
quick clean and lube got it up and running. Then I added a Grado
Blue cartridge, And balance and adjusted and tweaked. Then off to
the record stores to pick up some needed vinyl.
I was blown away at how much a new cartridge, a new record, and some
TLC destroyed any digital media I had listened to in the past in sonic
quality.
2nd I added a 17 tube, push pull monster in the form of an Audio
Research D-76A(a pair of matched, original, GE 6550A's for each
channel, and one more to regulate). Right off the bat it had a
hum in the right channel and a lot of static. After some cleaning
and deoxit, it is now reduced to a low stereo hiss that is only audible
with my ear next to the horns. After speaking with AR service, we
narrowed it down to the filter caps causing the hiss/hum that is left
over. Now I must decide if the hiss, that I can not really hear
at the listening position, is worth the $500 filter cap replacement
surgery. And for some reason the 1st 12AX7 for the left channel
is not glowing at all, but the left channel is working, so it does pass
signal???
Sitting now listening to vinyl through a high power tube amp, and into my heritage........... speachless.....

The woofer was from a Khorn. Customer has 6 pairs of Lascala's and 3 pairs of khorns throughout a very large home. The voice coil in discussion was in a khorn powered by a McIntosh.... are you ready for this... ...the suspense builds... ...MC2600!!!!!! But wait there is more... ...it was bridged to mono!!!!! 1200watts!!!!
The coil looked like it was floating in the dust cap (if the cap were liquid) the cap looked perfect, no dents of tears. Just the half moon of a voice coil trying to escape.

I stopped in at a local repair shop that also sells older vintage gear. While looking around I noticed a raw driver that looked familiar. It was a K-33-E. Picking up the driver I noticed that the voice coil had punched its way through the dust cap. The dust cap was still in place and did not have any other damage to it besides the voice coil partially sticking out. Needless to say the shop ordered the customer the pro series drivers for his horns.

I guess I was surprised when I searched for such a thread and didn't find anything. Although the search wasn't that in depth, I thought that it would be somewhat frequently asked. Especially when it would seem to be pretty simple to mounth the horns on the outside of the baffle. saw / router combination would not take long to do. And with the extent to which us Klipsch fans tweek our systems, I would think that this one would be pretty obvious (the baffle that is).

Has anyone posted a thread on smoothing out the horn structure and flared the cut hole? Seems like it would be a obvious advantage. I have noticed the horn structure on the la scala(metal horn) has a pretty rigid horn.

All that "blowing" talk is making me nervous. I listen to some bass heavy music. I also enjoy my music loud. Sounds like monoblocks may destroy my poor little heresy II's.
John - what conditions was your heresy under when it blew? type of music, volume level, etc.

So with the soft clipping on you may get a little more (probably inaudible) noise (
inaudible noise)?Also do you think a bridged NAD 2200 is too much for a heresy II?

NAD 2200's for amps, going to heresy II's for now, k-horns soon enough. The fisher price model that I looked at was a little complex. Each button was a different color, I would have liked to see a little more uniform design and operation.

I am looking for a best bang for your buck surround preamp. I don't need the holy grail, although it would be nice. With a couple hundred to spend on one, I am thinking of going used.

What about two NAD 2200 PE amps each bridged mono to a Heresy II.

What NAD pieces do you have. I believe J-malotky had 4 2200's hooked up to his heritage and thought that the 2200 were the best amp that NAD produced. Just curious on what model you have and what you have hooked up to it. Thanks

I have an chance to get two NAD 2200 PE amps for a great price. I am thinking of getting them for a two channel system Heresy II's for now, khorns later. I could also get the 2 ch NAD corresponding preamp to go with it (model # escapes me). What do you guys think? I know they are no McIntosh, but clean and simple works for me.

Be sure all speaker connections are clean. both at reciever and at speaker. If there is a short in the connection it will send the unit into protection.

Anyone ever have the RCA(Monster interlink) from the Turntable to the Preamp become Microphonic?

Oh yeah and I can also pick up radio stations from one of those interlinks too. Ground?
Anybody have any ideas on what could be going on. Maybe use a sheilded ground cable?
