  1. Tony - Congrats on purchase. I'm glad to see a fellow memeber was able to pick these up. Please let us know how they work out. I will continue my search, and fine tunning my WAF. She loves the old KG4's and new RF7's, she just doesn't understand why I NEED some Cornwalls. Go figure?

  2. Here is a question answer e-mail from me to the seller.

    The Respoonse

All of our equipment comes from Cinema Theaters (Movie Theaters). visit

our page at www.cinemaequip.com However, all the equipment on our page

is new most of our sells is from Used equipment. As far as history goes

i know we took them out from a theater in the 80's and since then have

been sitting in our warehouse. If the tweater were to be blown out,

there is various places online that sell parts for these speakers. I dont

think the tweater can be blown out though these speakears sound amazing

and can push alot of watts.

    My Message

Do you know what the application was in the theater?

Are you familiar with these speakers?

Ofter a tweeter can be blown and the speaker still sound OK? Please

dont't take offense to that question I am very interested and just what

    to know all I can.

    Thank You

    --------------------

Has anyone dealt with this bunch before? I am probably going to pass, but if I could get them for $350.00 and use my sources to get free shipping I may still try it. If anything they could be nice parts for any future set I may get.

  3. Thanks for your input on these, you all bring up some very valid points. Unfortunatelly I do not live near Miami, more like Baltimore. I have been looking for about a year now, I'm not really in a hurry I just want a great bargin. I work in distribution/logistics for a large retailer, If I stay near major citys, shipping could be free. I will send the seller an message and see if he knows anymore about them.

I have been following MOONS thread, I persoanlly enjoy getting by hands into the product and giving them a personal touch. I would just like to know what I was getting into before hand. $300.00 for what MOON has experienced and learned would be worth it to me.

    Thanks again,

  4. Wow! I had no clue the HK430 was that old. I am even more shocked at the condition of the one I landed.

I got the 1010 from a friend of my father. He was the original owner, I have the original receipt from 1975, he paid $720.00 for it. It also came with a reprinted FM Guide, Feldman Lab Report, dated September 1974.

I hope my previous post did read like I was dissapointed with the HK 430, I love it! If anything Pioneer should have learned how to put that power and sound into a more manageable unit.

  5. HDBRbuilder,

Final cost was $97.00, e-bay bid + SH + Contact Cleaner + A can of Air. The unit is a 10, not a scratch, my wife thought is was new.

Comparing it to the 110 wpc Pioneer this is hinting towards an apple and orange comparison.

Background noise: HK wins - could have been the age of the Pioneer

Clarity and Detail: Pioneer is incredible, it created mid-range in the KG4's you could feel. I also had more control over the treble (10kHz and 20kHz) and bass (50kHz and 100Hz). The bass controls always remained flat, for the KG4's I would slightly adjust the treble controls. RF7's everything flat, rattle the room. For only 25 wpc, the HK is very satisfying in these department.

    Warmth: HK wins

At 21"X16"x7" and over 60lbs, the Pioneer is very cumbersome and almost impossibe to get WAF in any main living space.

I found that my casual listening levels sit at about 9 o'clock for me, with the bass flat, and the treble at about 2 o'clock. The 430 with the KG4's creates a ton of bass.

The temptation to run the 430 on the RF7's will overcome me. When it does, I will gladly give an update.

Thanks for the other bits of info, I will definitely check out sympatico site.

  6. Just an update to the great advice I received about a month ago. The HK430 is in the house, cleaned, and powering my old KG4's like a champ. It also has a very high WAF approval. Small - Loud - and easy to operate, especially compared to the Pioneer SX-1010.

heresy2guy - The KG4's do lack the incredible mid-range that us Klipsch freaks demand. They were great for college, and like many other KG4 owners, I just will never part with them.

HDBRbuilder - Thanks for recommending such a great receiver, and your cleaning recommendations were also key.

dougdrake - Your advice probably saved the SX-1010 for a future resurrection.

    Thanks Again!

  7. dougdrake - HDBRbuilder - & heresy2guy,

Thank you for your response, I am looking at a few HK 430's on e-bay. I can't wait to see how it performs, I will give a HK 430/KG4's update.

I have RF7's in the main room, may give them a run on the 430 as well.

I love this forum! Thanks Again!

  8. Need Receiver advice. I am typically a fly on the forum wall, but this time my question is particular to my current, and/or future setup. The system in question is an old Pioneer SX-1010, Sony X222ES CD player, and KG4s. The receiver is having problems with the left channel, I have fixed/cleaned this giant many times, I am looking to retire it this time for something newer and smaller.

Question 1: I am running speakers A and B both on the right channel only; I also switched it to mono. This is temporary until I get a replacement. Is this going to hurt the Receiver? I will keep it, and may want to have it cleaned and repaired in the future, and I do not want to cause it any harm.

Question 2: My main receiver is a Harman Kardon AVR 25II. I am familiar with HK, and am thinking of purchasing a used similar unit from e-bay. Any other recommendations, the sound quality from the SX1010 will be hard to replace, and I really like the high current amplification of HK.

Question 3: What is the difference between HK AVR 25 and the AVR 25II?

My budget is between $80.00 to $120.00.

Any advice from this amazing forum would be greatly appreciated.

  9. New to the world of DVD (more of an audiofile). I recently purchased a Toshiba DVD player SD 4700. Current hook-up is RCA jack L&R to the VDP input of my Harmon Kardon ARV 25II. I have the video RCA running directly to my 36" RCA TV (Nothing special just a regular old TV). I have the TV shape set as 4:3 Normal, and I am still getting the masking bars as if I were still in 4:3 Letterbox. I do not want the masking bars. Have I got everything in place? The only way I could get the DVD player in the house was with a copy of Last Of The Mohicans (WAF). Is it possible this is the only way this DVD will Play? Like I said, new to the DVD era, and any help would be much appreciated. If I don't get this fixed, or at least have a good answer soon the WAF rating will bottom out.

  10. I am certainly not an expert, but I have used the KV2 with KG4's, and they were a very good match. I am currently using the KV2 with my RF 7's, and they are not exactly what I need. The Forte I is a better speaker than the KG4, but with the right amp., you could make due with this fine center.

  11. ED -

I guess I forget how long Klipsch had been manufacturing the Corwalls, but the last run of these speakers were MDF.

I still cannot see purchasing a 20-year-old speaker verse new ones. Believe me, I am not questioning the sound and/or quality of a Cornwall. If I had the money in college I would have purchased them instead of the KG4's. I still cannot see spending $800 to $1,000 on a pair of 20-year-old speakers. What about natures natural wear and tear? What does it cost to replace the Cornwall's woofer??

I know you purchased your for $500, but I am going with general E-BAY sales.

  12. Please become ONE with your Klipsch Specifications before speaking out of line. The Cornwalls are MDF with a Real Wood Finish, just like the RF 7s. I happen to own a set of KG-4s and RF 7s, and the cabinets are both very well built. I am not trying to compare the KG-4s to the Cornwalls, but the cabinet construction is the same.

Heritage sound verse RF sound, I have to admit I was searching for the Heritage sound when I purchased my RF 7s. This is what I personally discovered. The Heritage speakers will play a broader range of musical styles with an incredible sound. The RF 7s do not tolerate poor CD mastering. For example Led Zeppelin IV sounds relatively poor on the RF 7s, the master recordings are in bad shape, and it shows. Led Zeppelin III sounds like Robert Plant is in my living room performing live. In my opinion the Heritage line would make these CDs sound about the same. Bottom line, any speakers you purchase will come with some compromise. I choose to hear the CD as close to its master recording as possible, even if this means giving up some sound quality on a few of my favorite CDs, the payback on my other CDs is worth it.

One more thing, Klipsch speakers do hold up remarkably well, but everything does deteriorate with age and use. It may happen so gradually that you dont notice it. Speakers are subjected to change in air temperatures, humidity, and ultraviolet sunlight; these will eventually take a toll on older speakers. Not to mention they do have moving parts that simply cannot perform like new if they were built in the late 80s.

I would purchase new if you can, and let your ears make your decision.

  13. First time Klipsch forum user.

I am in the market to upgrade my kg4's (8 years old). I am looking at the KLF-30 vs the RF-7. I have listen to both seperately, both sounded GREAT! I do not have the opportunity to compare them side by side. I am more of an Audiofile than a movie-buff, but they will be used in both manners. I am leaning towards the KLF-30's, for no real reason.

Just an update - I have purchased the RF-7's, I pick them up on the 24th. Thanks for all of helpful responses.
