  1. Has anybody here experienced Roon yet? I find it very complex to figure it out. There’s so many things to it. Does any one here use it?

  2. My son came over to the house this weekend so I could build him a box that he'll eventually make into a portable stereo.  The garage system was on which uses a laptop and external DAC to stream music off the internet.  I told him to play whatever he wanted so he pulled up his Spotify account and played some things he enjoyed.  I paused it after one particular song and then replayed the exact same song on Tidal and asked him if he could hear a difference.   He described Tidal as much cleaner and more detailed.  The difference was very obvious to both of us.

I use tidal and I hear a very big difference between the other streaming apps. Other apps sound very muddy through the whole spectrum. I also listen to there Masters and notice very little over the regular hi res but I do notice it. I like listening in pure direct. Also, there library is tiny and there curators are the worse, IMO.

  3. No particular artist....just a variety of styles.  I love acoustic music but listen to all types of music.

I love acoustic music too. I really like listening passenger’s acoustic sessions. Niall horan new acoustic version of “Too much to ask”is good. Also, Ed Sheeran’s are good too. Sam Smith new cd has some good songs too. Just throwing them out there. Not sure if that’s for your taste. I find them very pleasing on my humble 280’s[emoji6]

  4. Had to sound decent I would think. Those Dragonfly's get good reviews. I liked letting my MusiciStreamer II do a slow burn-in while listening. It took a little time but then wow. Was using it for YouTube mostly. Really helped at the time. Someone was just speaking of the new to me format on forum.. Know you will let
us know how it all sounds. Congrats!

I will definitely share my experience that I think will be very pleasing.

  5. They know their stuff, like I have said before. Do think you will really like the integrated quite a lot. Sometimes when moving from one audio component, the music takes on let's say different characteristics. All should be good with only upside surprises.. Direct mode can sound really good on some pieces like my Marantz. Like Yamaha sound as well. Think you will not find disappointment.
What I was referring to about audio out earlier on your computer were the connections. I have streamed from my Dell out to amp without a n external DAC at times. It can be rewarding depending upon your soundcard. If so, I would do it just for comparison sake. It made me realize the diff. with and without.
Listening at reasonable(?) levels with the Yamaha will tell a tale also. Hope so!

I was running an optical cable with adapter to laptop. To receiver. This allowed the laptop to be bypassed with the settings on the Tidal app. I was getting 96khz on the mastered music. It does sound fuller in my opinion and cleaner. But even then it was limited. I need an MAQ DAC which will unfold the whole file. So thanks to willland, I’m most likely gonna get the Red dragonfly.

  6. The laptop is connected to the Dragonfy via USB(digital) and out from Dragonfly DAC via 3.5mm to RCA adapter(analog) to stereo RCA inputs on the Yamaha.

I’ve been known about this but had forgotten. I just looked it up and they’ve updated the dragon dac with MQA which is what Tidal uses or promotes. Even better.

  7. Cool! See Willand is answering. Enjoy whatever you choose and, think the Yamaha will work fine for now with your speakers.

Yes, it’s good to count on the forum members. Like the audio family[emoji6]. I’m using my A1050 receiver right now and I’m happy with music In direct mode. At least for the music I listen too. I feel like and integrated amp will give me fuller sound.

  8. I would think you would inject a DAC between the laptop and the Yamaha.

    Something simple like this.

By the way you don't have to spend that much for the 3.5mm to RCA adapter.  I bought mine(another brand) for $9.99.

I thought the dragon was more like a headphone amp. How would I make that work. From usb to amp?
I have seen the rca cables, I just don’t think they can convert or decode the sound from laptop. Unless I use the dragon first and then the rca to amp. I see. Is that what you were trying to say.

  9. A-S500 is 85 watts X2.....RF-280's....max continuous is 160 watts....to be honest it may be on the low side....powerwise.
could hold you over for a bit....remember it's analog only...no fiber optic
....think about it....PM me an offer....I am not going to use it.

I stream music from a Mac. Tidal masters is only available through desktop or laptop. How can I use analog with a laptop? Any suggestions.
Right now I’m using an optical cable with adapter from Mac to receiver.

  10. Vintage or new model?  I have a really nice vintage Dynaco ST-400, but no optical inputs on a stereo amp made in 1970

I’m looking for an integrated amp with a built in dac. Not a power amp. So I can use it with optical from laptop and stream lossless audio. That amp sounds nice though. How much you asking, if you don’t mind the question.
  11. I’m looking to buy a nice integrated amp. For 2ch music listening. I’ll be using Tidal as the Main streaming amp and a CD player. So optical would be nice for my lossless streaming. Any recommendations will be appreciated.
