  1. Some "audiophiles" chase the perfect sound their whole lives. For a lot of us on this forum, I would venture a guess that we have found our perfect sound. At the very least, we have found the sound that we are excited to go back and listen to every day.

So, to each his own in terms of sound. However, I will be home enjoying the sounds of my Klipsch and Altec horns tonight, presenting the music how I feel it should be.

I have found my audio nirvana and suspect others here have as well. We are such 'phools'...

It's all about the music, folks. Now get to listening.

Congrats! Those should provide many years of enjoyment and upgrades are available if you get the itch...

I'm going to try stock for awhile, then maybe do the tweeters 1st, then the crossovers.

Yeah, I'd be sure to re-engineer them right away. Because all you guys are smarter than Paul W. Klipsch. (sarcasm mode on).  LEAVE THEM ALONE and listen for 30 days, then see if you really need to spend more money on them. Mine are bone stock and are gonna stay that way.

Agree with colterphoto here. Different parts & changes to your loudspeakers are not always upgrades in sound to everybody's ears.

I definitely agree, PWK was a genius.  However, all speakers are made to a price point and made with the technology of the times.  Maybe he would've used titanium in the tweeters if, at the time, it met the price and availability.  The caps are also just old, because that happens...so replacement of things like caps is not changing Klipsch's original idea.

  3. Dynamics in the sense of the speaker being able to play from the softest to the loudest passages on a piece is a definite strength of horns. You don't have to play them loudly to hear the speed and lack of distortion in dynamic passages.

After owning horns, I won't go back to "conventional" designs. I don't listen very loud at all, but they are the only thing for me that captures the emotion (dynamics) of music.

  4. Class D Amps are enjoying the same benefits of silicon scale as DACs. There are only a couple chip sets that make up the bulk of the class D designs. Since there is no heavy iron in the design the cost is dropping with the silicon. There are some sonic personality differences between D amps, but the essential specs are all the same for obvious reasons. This is a major boon for anyone just getting into HiFi, like students.

The beginning system of today is way, WAY better than the beginning system of 1975. Today's entry system is probably better than a high end system of 1975 (aside from sheer loudness). But in terms of distortion, noise, clarity and detail, today's low cost systems are miles ahead of 1975. And they use a fraction of the energy! And they are more reliable. And they take up lead space. Quite an evolution.

I don't think I'd go as far to say systems today are better than 1975, especially entry systems of today. Plenty of examples of great vintage systems. As far as distortion, some of today's gear has massive amounts - speakers especially. Amplifiers seem to be getting better, but some of the entry items are rated at 10-20% THD. DACs I think are getting better and better - I agree there's no too much reason to spend thousands when you see what a few hundred can get you with these.

  5. Thank you Chris. It looks like you've got quite the amazing setup.  So is the two way you described THE Jubilee that PWK intended?

The design looks amazing.  I have Altec 19s in my main listening area, and for my money, the two way seems like the way to go. I do love the look of the three way though, which is why I have a couple 3 way Klipsch :).

I don't have a room that could support something such as a Jubilee, but I would love to hear them some day.  I have actually yet to hear a fully horn loaded system...

As a lot of (or most of) us on this forum, I have a fascination with Klipsch due to the impact on audio reproduction he had and the designs put in place.  Horns just sound more real to my ears...

  6. So...first off, I am no expert - not even close, so go easy on me.

I have been reading on the Jubilee but I'm so confused on where the "real" one left off.

PWK intended the Jubilee to be a 2-way system.

    There's this one: http://www.klipsch.com/KPT-Jubilee-535-B

but that is a 3 way design.

However, I've seen plenty of setups that use the bass bin and the KPT-402 (I think) only, making it a two way.  It seems PWK and Roy made some prototypes but I don't see where that actually ended.

I've also read that the crossover is the key to this design.  Is it the KPT-KHJ bin with the KPT-402 with a different driver and a specific crossover that is the actual Jubilee?  Was there ever a "finished" two way, or did this pass on with PWK?

  7. Can't keep them because in this room they block my garage door. Altec 19s are in the only spot the Cornscalas fit. These sound great, but I had to choose just 1 large set.

  8. Here's the reason I can't keep them: My garage door gets blocked by the left speaker.  Only one room can support these guys and that has been taken by the main listening setup.

Klipsch inspired Cornscala B. Built by Bob Crites. Speakers are two months old, in raw birch. Unfortunately, I do not have room for these speakers, as I came upon my dream speakers. The only room I have that can support these has now been taken by my other set. Although these are fantastic set up with my TV, they present a slight issue of blocking the door to my garage...

They come with grill frames and cloth as well. Risers already installed.

    CT125 1" tweeter

    Selenium D405 2" mid horn (M2380)

    CW1526CF 15" woofer

    Sensitivity 102db

Original price was $1843 before shipping.

Local pickup only. Buyer can audition the speakers before payment. Cash, certified check, or paypal.

  10. Hi all,

Those Cornscalas on eBay are mine. They are, indeed, made by Bob Crites. Had them built and shipped. I have no room for them as I happened upon my dream speakers. Anyone local in CT is welcome to audition.

They don't exactly fit where I currently had to place them...

  11. I own 19s as well. If they are in good shape and the early version as described, it sounds like a good price to me. Just make sure you have enough room, as they are very big. If you do get them, you'll never want to give them up.
