best folded or tapped horn sub to match La Scalas
rmichael21 replied to rmichael21's topic in Subwoofers
I might build the Othorn. It seems to target the exact range I'm looking for 35-80hz. Do you think it being tapped is a big issue? I don't really know enough -

I'm not afraid of any build, I've done ship joinery as a profession when younger. That being said, you believe THTLP is still the best match you know of ? -

Code, which one though? the only one with recommended driver which is available seems to be the Bill Fitz builds. I would probably build the pro 48 but I'm curious with all the folds will there be time alignment issues? LSs have very short folds, I don't want to build something to have it not fit in -

Never heard back from Schu. I really want to build something that looks cool (can't help it) but im going to go with a series of basic subs in parallel I believe. I'll give you updates;it'll be a couple weeks. gonna finish sanding the LSs tomorrow and coat in a layer of glass next week. -

Hornet, what driver are you using? I know lilmike stresses how each box he designs is for specific drivers Schu, Talk to me, looks fun! -
I want to build subs to match my La Scalas. I am a very skilled carpenter and I have no size restrictions .I want them only for music so fast and clean .I'm thinking performance in the 30-60 hz range is most important and I would prefer a build designed for a specific driver that is currently available. It's not money is no object but I'm not afraid to pony up. I appreciate any feedback

Mine look like they were lightly pitted from the get go. I'm painting them metallic pearl white, I'll post before/after in about a week when I'm done

Hi everyone, I'm restoring a pair of La Scalas for outdoor/covered patio use. The squawker horns do not have a perfectly smooth surface. I was going to apply a thin layer of polyurethane resin, awl fair, sand them smooth and paint them with a epoxy paint but now I,m wondering if this will effect the sound, There will be no build up it's just to smooth them out and give them a custom color. Any thoughts?

HI. I have a pair of CF 4's I plan on relocating to the garage, there is some swelling and separation.in the MDF. I am going to try to replicate the boxes and hopefully upgrade them. I know last time I checked there were no replacement diaphragms available for the horns. has that changed? Is there a driver that would work and be considered an upgrade? better woofers available? 2nd version Mike

My buddy has a pair of 1984 La Scalas with the AL crossovers ..I have the Some AA crossovers. Are the Speakers good and should I buy them if the price is good?
-
So I bought a pair of LaScalas I intended to use on an enclosed screened in patio. My friend paints boats and said he would paint the boxes in awlgrip which is a industrial strength all weather marine paint. Well, I never got the boxes back but I have the drivers and crossovers. I'm a decent carpenter and would like to build my own boxes. I would appreciate help with plans and advice on how to go about this. Mike

brought them home! I overpaid but it was 15 min from my house. no hassles no worries. I hooked up just one speaker and played chitlins con carne by SRV and smiled listening to music for the first time in a while!! I am definitely a 3 way horn guy!!!!

, Yes pie sliced logos.. funny you should mention respecting PK. I want to here them as he intended so I'll be very careful about "upgrades". Everyone has there own preference which I completely respect , I just know from experience they don't always match mine. thanks again for everyone's help. I've owned a few Klipsch but these will be my first LS

now I have more questions. are the tops supposed to have screws? these are all black, badge is in upper corner, squawker isn't completely smooth but seems like from casting. is this normal? I just want to be sure. I do not have pics, saw once and gave a down payment. I prefer to believe people but you never know..

Thanks everyoneI thought it might be overpriced but my time is worth money and they were only ever powered by one amp, the accuphase he bought them with. No alterations so I can judge from stock if I want to change anything . what are laser badges? They have black badges up in the corner Mike
