  1. Ya, this is another thing I have considered, that's another reason I was considering upgrading to something with pre outs I wouldn't mind getting a nice external amp for the La Scala's. Though the spec's on the La Scala's say the maximum continuous wattage rating for them is 100 which is what my current receiver pushes. Would it be bad to push more continuous power to them than the recommended?
  2. I didn't realize NAD made AVR's I thought they only made 2 channel integrated and amps, that's good to know. The only thing I can see though about the NAD's is they don't have 4k support which I do require. It seems like no one here really has mentioned Marantz. Is that brand all hype? What do you guys think as far as Marantz vs Pioneer?
  3. I've read a lot about how some receiver's don't play well with heritage speakers and I was just curious, which ones you guys recommend? I am talking about for home theater and music use. Right now I have the Pioneer Elite VSX-90 and I think it sounds pretty good but I kind of just jumped into it without that much research because I found it on a really good sale at bestbuy because they were getting rid of all their 2015 models. . The more I research I read Marantz might be the best way to go. What do you guys say? I was actually looking at the Marantz SR6010 one thing I really like about it, is it has 7.2 channel pre out's which really opens the door for expansion if I so chose. What do you guys think? What brand do you guys know matches well with Klipsch Heritage? Do you think it's even worth looking at a different receiver? The only reason I am considering this is because my brother has a really old receiver that doesn't support HDCP 2.2 4k@60hz or any of that and he is thinking of getting a new one so I said I could just buy a new one myself and give him mine.
  4. I was just wondering has anyone with older La Scala's replaced the parts with the current model La Scala part's from Klipsch? I see a lot of people talk about replacing with Crites crossovers and drivers. I spoke with a guy from Klipsch the other day when I was trying to figure out how old my speakers are and I asked if anyone has ever done that, he said yes people do it all the time. He also said they do not have any OEM parts for my particular model anymore so that's what led me to ask him about using parts from the La Scala II Just wondering if anyone here has done it, and how they liked the results when compared to going with Crites or the stock parts for that matter.
  5. Did you have these listed on craigslist a while ago?
  6. If your talking about adding crites drivers or anything like that I really had no plans to do any of that. I plan on keeping everything original unless of course something fails and I have no choice but to replace a part.
  7. I called Klipsch the guy told me what I thought, they are 87's but the previous owner must have replaced the crossover's because as it said in the heritage code document they didn't start using the AL-3 crossover until 89.
  8. Yes the grills do come off lol that was the first thing I asked the guy when I bought them. These horns make the horns on my Chorus look like babies! When I saw pictures of the La Scala's I always wondered if you could take the grills off.
  9. He says when he bought them they were raw birch wood which it does indicate on the tag but he refinished them and they are absolutely gorgeous. Honestly not so much as a ring stain or nick anywhere on them! Says he barely ever used them either, in the time he owned them probably played them 10 times. I guess his wife hated them and wanted them out! I don't know how anyone can hate these, honestly there works of art!
  10. Looks like you're missing a couple of digits from the serial number? Post a picture of the serial number tags to be sure, but it's probably 1987. Here's the tag from my 1988 pair for comparison. I did read that they didn't add the AL-3 network into 1989 and I do have those crossover networks so I'm thinking they've gotta be at least 89
  11. When you say floor bounce do you mean the way the speakers wobble when on a tile floor?
  12. Perhaps someone might be able to tell me based on the serial number when these were manufactured. It's 87513 the guy told me 91 but unless I'm missing something it looks like 87. Am I correct?
  13. That's actually a really good idea! Your room might be fine with a little EQ. Just curious, will you have a sub with your La Scalas? Yes I do currently I have the Velodyne CT-150 paired with it. Later on down the line I may upgrade to the Klipsch R-115SW
  14. I've had many theater systems on hardwood floors. I never thought it sounded bad but I am no expert. I don't think my current setup sounds bad either but after what I have read, I am very curious to see what a carpet could do to improve the sound quality. After spending so much money on my La Scala's I want to have them sounding the best I possibly can but I am in no way saying it sounds bad currently.
  15. I actually have six home theaters set up Jim, just some are less conventional like in a bedroom and den. As you can see by my sig, I have issues.... Tim Hey, if I had the money for it I'd be the same way!
  16. I have to be honest I really don't believe I know enough to get into the manual mode and change things around. I really would have no idea what I was doing and might end up doing more harm than good. One thing that I do when letting the avr do it's auto calibration which is a little trick I learned on AVSforum is tape the mic to my forehead so it's really right in the sweet spot of the listening area instead of putting it on the headrest of the couch where it states you should put it in the manual. Is that a bad idea? Of course, I don't cover the mic with tape or anything like that.
  17. Did you double-check to see all your speaker wires are correct? Never assume. I have stories. Lol Yes I did, they are all correct.
  18. Thank you everyone, this is exactly what I figured. Could the huge echo have to do with why my MCACC keeps saying at least one of my speakers is out of phase?
  19. I currently have my theater/music room in a room that has a tile floor. I have been doing a lot of reading and hearing that actually this is bad and can make the sound quality degrade drastically. Funny, I always thought rugs were bad because they absorbed all the sound. I see that I may have been wrong. I have noticed however that when I do my MCACC room callibration it always tells me one or more of my speakers has the phase reversed which from what I have read can be because of the major echo that is probably going on because the tile floor. My question is would the sound quality improve if I got a huge area rug and question number two is if I got an area rug should I get one large enough so that the speakers can go on it as well or something that can basically go in front of the speakers and cover the rest of the floor?
  20. That's right, especially when your mains weigh around 200 a piece!
  21. Let me just say THANK YOU for such an amazing article! Definitely explains it and I am really glad I made a thread about this because it taught me a lot!
  22. I appreciate the input, I guess it's a good thing I asked. Now I'm wondering, is it alright that I have my RC-64ii set to large, or should I set that to small? When I ran the MCACC pro it set's it to large by default.
