  1. After all the upgrading I've done recently now my brother has the upgrade bug and wants to perhaps purchase the Klipsch RP-150M's as mains, and upgrade little by little. He was also looking at the RP-160M's but might not be able to afford them right away, so I suggested just get the 150's now and when you can, get the 160's and move the 150's to the rear.

Right now he has the Energy Take Classic 6 home theater in a box. He is just wondering if it would be a solid upgrade and if with these RP-160's will he be able to set them as large speakers on the AVR or small? Reason he is curious is because with the energy take classic 6's he had set them to large and ended up blowing a couple of the speakers.

The reason we want to set the front stage to large is because I had purchased the RP450C but decided to go with the RC-64ii so I gave him my RP450C and he is currently running it with his Take Classic setup but I told him he should really at least upgrade his mains to something that would better match that center and be able to set the whole front stage to large. He think's because it isn't a floorstanding speaker he will blow it if he sets it to large.

So I guess my question's are do you think the 150M's (for right now) would be a solid upgrade and can you set them to large? Also he really doesn't want floorstanding because of space issues. I offered to let him use my retired JBL S310's he said they are too big for his setup.

  2. wdecho is probably right, and that vid will help. There were two things not covered in that vid that happened to me. One was the voice coil was rubbing because it was bent slightly. I took it out and bent it rounder. I suppose the guy that put it in got a little sloppy. The other thing was that it wasn't even the speaker making the noise. It was something resonating behind it.

The cap on the back of the magnet was loose on one and a little rtv around the outside like in the vid fixed it right up. That would be fixed in the video above.

Ya, that's what it sounds like with mine too like the cap on the magnet is loose I really don't even think it's coming from inside the speaker because like I said when I put my hand over the magnet it stops it. what's rtv stand for?

The trim is a little odd for my taste, but those are SWEET. Glad you passed on the last pair you were posting about.

So am I!!! The only reason I even considered those is because of sheer desperation! One thing that I actually just happened to notice though when testing them is that the midrange on one of the speakers is making like a vibrating noise. It's definitely not blown and sounds to be coming from the magnet. When I hold the magnet the vibration noise disappears. Do you think perhaps that could be due to the  driver being a bit loose? If so how would I go about tightening it?

You can fix the vibration yourself with some super glue. I will look for the youtube video describing how you do it. From memory you remove the driver and disassemble it and and then apply super glue to the inside and let it set overnight. Using guide studs you reassemble the driver. Really not hard to do.

Not actually seeing your driver I am going to say the vibration is coming from the plastic piece on the back of the driver vibrating from coming loose. The reason for disassembling the driver is obvious, you do not want any super glue leaking inside gluing the membrane.

A decent replacement driver is the Selenium D250X but you do not need to buy a pair if you repair the driver vibrating. The problem is not uncommon with the K55M driver.

OK, I found one youtube video on this repair. It is not the one I first watched but I think you can get the idea. With some searching you can find more videos on this repair.

And I think your speakers are lovely.

Thank you so much for this!

  4. I actually just got a pair of La Scala's today and I have to say I was very pleased with the bass! As others have said I personally won't even be using my sub anymore for 2 channel listening. I'm not sure if it's just how my listening room reacts with the speakers but they actually have a lot of bass, more than my Chorus's did! With the Chorus's I felt the need for a sub, not with these.

You will love them, they are fantastic and extremely gorgeous, though the RF-7ii's are gorgeous as well. Those are hands down the speakers I'd pick if I went with the modern Klipsch line over the Heritage! I just recently picked up the RC-64ii which if I'm not mistaken is the center that's supposed to go with those, and that center is absolutely breathtaking in performance and appearance!

  5. Congrats, glad you found a beautiful pair.  Yes try to attempt to tighten the driver down to the horn, also check the screws that mount the horn to the motorboard.  You might need to order some replacement gaskets for the horn to driver mount.  If you do, go ahead and order a crossover refresh kit, but hold off on installing it.   Enjoy for now.

Thanks for the input, I tried tightening the driver to the horn which actually was a little loose but that didn't help. Where would I go about ordering those things, Klipsch?

  7. As many of you may know, I was on the hunt for a pair of La Scala's for quite some time now and last night I found the perfect pair! I picked them up today, met the guy he was a die hard Klipsch fan, a really great guy that took absolutely amazing care of the speakers as you will be able to tell from the pictures.

I couldn't be happier and I wanted to share with everyone here. They were manufactured in 91

  8. People here port La Scala speakers all the time, but typically in a different manner.

Ya, when I originally viewed the post I hadn't realized they were modified. This seems like a pretty risky deal considering there's no way to test them out before buying and the guy lives about 100 miles from me. I appreciate you pointing that out to me though, I wouldn't have noticed. If I did pick these up would it be hard to put them together?

  9. That link doesn't work for me, but I think I found the listing. They appear to be ported?

Wow yes that is the picture from the link I will try and fix that. I see that, I didn't even notice that when I looked. I'm assuming that's probably not a good thing that they've been modified.

What do you guys think of this? Basically speakers with parts all disassembled. I think I would be able to handle this, doesn't seem too hard. What do you guys think? I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I've built computers, fitness equipment, all sorts of things but just never a speaker. Great price. I spoke to the guy he said all parts are original but tweeter may not be working but he has brand new in box tweeter coils that he will include.

  11. Sorry for the second post, I know I posted this earlier but for some reason I cannot access that post. If anyone has any ideas or has had this happen to them in the past where you can't access a thread you've made because when you click on it, it says access denied and know's how to fix it, let me know. I contacted a moderator and they said they had no idea why that would happen.

Anyway, I decided to go ahead and pull the plug and purchase the RC-64ii and let this center go. Very good center and after I let it break in it did get MUCH better but I am set on trying the RC-64ii and happened to find a really good deal on it so here we are.

This thing is absolutely mint, I still have the manual still wrapped in the original plastic, and the center itself is 100% perfect. I am in CT and would rather sell locally but I would look into shipping if it doesn't sell locally. Asking 350 or best offer.

  12.

Again, as how you live in a short distance of highly populated areas, be patient.

I'll bet something appropriate comes along in a handfull of weeks.

Just encouraging you to continue to ask, and seek, but with patience.

This may be a good time for one of you out there that have a simple method of searching multiple Craigslists to put it out.    Lars

Thank you this comes in very handy!

  13. CT is Connecticut right? If so, how far are you from Groton? At $750.00  I wouldn't think twice about this purchase if I was closer.

You could pair it with a pair of these and have one heck of a system.

    Good luck with your search.

Wow!! I did not even see that! I just sent the guy a PM Thank you for pointing this out to me! Your right that would be an amazing deal!
