  1. I'm new to the projector world, thanks for the advice. From what I've read online seems that Sony and JVC are the kings of the projector world.. So if thier isn't really a true JVC 4k projector availble right now, which projector from JVC would you reccomend? Like some of you have posted deep rich blacks is something I'm used to with my Samsung 4k led tv. I'd hate to lose the image quality that I'm already used to. Will going back to 1080p projector be a huge step back? I already have a 4k UHD Samsung bluray player and around 30 4k blurays. Seems JVC has a lot of models for projectors and some have the same specs as others. How do I know which to buy? Is contrast ratio the most important spec I assume?

    here is a few I've been looking at

    JVC DLA RS400 40,000:1 contrast ratio

    JVC DLA RS500U---- this one has a little better contrast ratio of 120,000:1 but nearly $2,000 more

  2. Finally got my custom built standout designs media stand.. It looks awesome in my room and I love the build quality of it as it is definatly top notch. I'm wanting to get a $3,500 to $7,000 projector. I measured the wall and this is the dimensions I came up with:

    104" floor to crown molding or 8'8"

    140" or 11'8" width of wall

    Klipsch RP-280FA tower height 43"

    Standout designs media center height is 26"

    Width between each klipsch RP-280FA tower is 110"

    The distance from viewing position to the wall is 14' excactly

    I do play some video games a few hrs a week but mainly watch movies.

    What 4k projector fits into my price range and screen should I buy for max video quality..

  3. transformers 4 and mad max by far have tons of immersion effects.. The rest of the movies ive seen so far don't even compare to these 2 movies.. I think it will be a while till "blockbuster action movies" learn the best methods to use Atmos technology..

  4. You can definatly do better if you already have 2k to spend.. IMO like scrappy said don't even get the reference "best buy stuff" go straight for the Reference premiere stuff it's not much more and the quality is a lot better. Some people claim it's as good as the Reference II stuff. Do you plan on getting Atmos? If you do the RP-280FA towers are amazing and will take a lot of the install time away from having to drill holes in the ceiling. Will still need two atmos speakers for behind the listening position though. Do what I did Just buy one pair of speakers every few weeks as money allows and before you know it you'll have 5k worth of Reference Premiere gear. If going for atmos setup you could definatly save by using the 2 pairs of the RP-160M direct fire speakers instead of the 2 pairs of RP-250S which are quite expensive.

  5.

    After owning my receiver for about a week and playing some DTS-HD, and Dolby Atmos blu-rays I noticed I was only getting 5.1.4 out of my 11 channel receiver. I didn't realize that I would need a extra amp to get those extra two rear surrounds to play during the movies

    I am a little lost. The 5.1.4 is 11 channels so I'm not sure what you are expecting that the AVR is not doing.  If you use those rear surrounds with separate amp as you suggest, what Atmos or other configuration will you have, would that be 7.1.4??

    Are you bi-amping your L/R?  I don't think so, but I thought I'd ask.

    I'm running the Emotiva gen3 XPA-5 on my L/C/R and the side surrounds that is 5 channels. The atmos front in my towers, the atmos in ceiling behing my couch is two channels, and the rear surrounds is the final 2 channels for a total of 11 channels the final 6 channels is ran by my Yamaha receiver. The Yamaha rx-a3050 will only process (and play) 9 channels till you add atleast a 2 channel amp which allows it to process a total of 11 channels. It doesn't consider the sub a channel since it doesn't provide any power for it. Yes my setup right now is a true 7.1.4, but soon will be a 7.2.4 soon as I add 2 seaton 15" subs and get rid of this weak klipsch 12" sub..

  6. Well after searching for over two months I gave up.. I said screw it and went ahead and called Standout Designs and asked if they would deviate from their Haven design a tad to allow bigger compartments for my audio gear and my center channel speaker. They said they would do a custom order but would have to charge for it, at this point I didn't care I just wanted a top notch product that would keep my equipment cool and happy, and hidden somewhat. The cost with the holiday discount and my military discount took a good portion off smile.gif Ended up only being $2,600 Some might think this is outrageous but IMO you get what you pay for. I didn't want pressed, glued together particle board with laminate. I wanted real wood and something that would last. Should be here in 2 weeks I can't wait..

    This is the model I went with

  7. To be clear the sub I am having issues with is the RW-10d.  So if this fix doesn't work, which should be comparable to it?  I have all reference speakers right now, and when the sub worked everything sounded great.  I was thinking of the R-110sw, or maybe the R-112sw, I just dont know if I need a 12", since the 10" was powerful enough.  And, will it last?  I mean mine was purchased in 2006 brand new, and I havent ever really pushed it, not to mention that since we had my daughter I have barely used it at all, and she's 2 now.  So, from 2006 to 2013 it was used lightly, since then it was used even more lightly and rarely used at all.  I just don't want to spend money on a sub that will crap out in a few years again.

    I upgraded to the better R-112sw and I've been very impressed with it clarity and power. although if I had to fault it for something it'd be that it doesn't play low Hz (20-35 hz) excursion scenes in movies at all above 1/2 gain without bottoming out the sub and sounds like something is flapping loose inside the enclosure. I'm about to start saving for some F2 submersive 15" subs as another member here told me they pretty much are king of the hill now and even much better than the SVS subs. The F2 submersive are pretty impressive drivers and can play down to 7 HZ!! this is astounding..

  8. I have a multi channel (8) set of the Belden LC-1 cables with the tech flex braided cover from Bluejeans. Great quality at a fair price. I tried monoprice rca's but they were an extremely tight fit and did not want to force on or have to pry open wider.

    was it really ridged with the techflex? I'm only doing a 5 channel so I want it to be able to make 45 degree turn into my cabinet and not look all weird if you know what I mean..

  9.

    Monster cable is a joke. Don't waste your money.

    +1 on that.

    I own a couple of sets of bluejeans 7 channel rca's. They are well made.

    I have now gone you monoprice XLR.... While the monoprice are decent quality.

    Bluejeans are high quality.

    G.E.M

    what series of bluejeans rcas is good to use? they offer 3 types. I'd like to get the braided Techflex so the "stiffest" LC-1 RCA's is out of the question as they don't offer braiding on the stiff rcas. So that leaves the belden 1505F or the belden 1694A

    Obviously if the sonic quality is that much greater on the stiffer LC-1 rca's i'll just ditch the idea of the Techflex braiding and get this instead.

  10. man the Seaton submersive looks very very nice for the price.. If I wanted 2 15" subs which model would you go with? looks like they have some in single enclosures and some with dual drivers. Isn't it better to have subs on opposite ends of the room to keep the sound from being able to tell where it's coming from? I have enough room for 2 15" subs on opposite ends of room in opposite corners :) For barely being priced more than the SVS I agree with you 2 15's on 4000 watts should definatly get down,lol

  11. Ordered me a Gen 3 Emotiva XPA-5 to power my L/C/R and side surrounds and plan to run my Yamaha on just the rear surrounds and all 4 Atmos speakers. This should give those speakers a little more wattage and give the Yamaha RX-A3050 a lot of headroom to perform a lot better.

    Was able to pick this up from Emotiva for a nice discount over memorial day weekend :) Guess being prior military has its advantages sometimes :)

    Next upgrades will be a nice 6' to 7' wide equipment console such as these.. Need something with good wire management and active cooling. Price is of no concern I want real wood, not some cheap particle wood, as most of the gear going on there will be very heavy. Both my receiver and amplifier are 45-50 lbs.

    Here is some of the nice audio/video consoles I've found thus far but don't have experience with any of these.. Please let me know of the quality of these if any of you have used them before..

    After that is bought I plan on upgrading to atleast 1 and possibly 2 SVS PB13 Ultras

    https://www.svsound.com/products/pb13-ultra

    Then lastly I plan to do a lot of acoustic remedies for my living room to hopefully trap most of the bass in the room and keep the neighbors happy. Also need to put up some sort of acoustic panels to keep the reflections down. I don't have any experience in this so will definatly need help with this area.

  12. That room is indeed a challenge. I agree that post 18 is the best if the stand up desk must be in the room.

    do you even have room for the chairs for the standing desk? I play a ton of online games but I ended up using one of my 4 bedrooms in my house and converted it into a office for online gaming. After living in apartments for 10+ years and seeing a gaming rig where my kitchen table should go I got sick of seeing this out in the open all the time. I definatly wouldn't sacrifice your theatre room real estate for a gaming rig. Especially if this will prohibit you from reclining in your chairs while watching movies.

  13. Will this crossover setup be fine on my speakers. They are rated from 32-58hz lows frequencies.

    LFE

    SUB = 120hz or lower.

    Fronts = 60hz Rated 32-2500hz

    Center = 80hz

    Surround = 80hz

    Surround back = 60-80hz Rated 45-2500hz

    Atmos = 90-100hz

    Music plays most of the time in Stereo

    Will be any low frequencies overlap or hole as people says?

    klipsch manual states for those ceiling speakers to cross them over at 150hz.. I have mine set to 160 hz as that is what my avr allows.

    for the side surrounds at ear height when seated is what should be used for atmos.. the rear surrounds can be higher but not more than half the height of the wall..

  14. I dont know what excactly i did but none of my connections changed, all i did was unplug the network cable as i was trying to get into the user interface with my laptop, lol i dont know anything about networking, i found out where to get into it at but still cant get in :(

    It keeps saying the device cant be found, but yet it pulls up a S1 digital user interface when i go to http:/ mys1digital.com it shows my device and its actual specific location in my house on my network, but wont let me connect to it when i push the button that says setup..

    After giving up on that i then couldnt get my s1 digital server to connect back to my network and it wouldnt play music, so i figured it was like a computer and just needed a reboot, did that and now all of a sudden i have AWESOME LOSSLESS SOUND!! It sounds 10-20x better and i can hear every tiny litte detail of my music!!

    Guess for some reason it kept trying to send out corrupted data before as it was showing 48khz as the bitrate.. Now it clearly displays PCM 44.1khz in the onscreen info for my receiver.

    Thanks for all your help so happy to finally get to hear my speakers live up to thier potential :)

  15. no up sampling and no tos... what are you using for your digital to analog conversion?

    If im playing songs from this media server i wouldnt be converting the signal at all correct? I dont really know how all this crud works, I just know for the amount of money I've paid it should sound a whole lot better than it does currently.

    Only thing i could thing currently that would be doing any converting is just my yamaha rx-a3050 receiver
