Hi Dave, I was going to suggest the Crites 1526, the steel basket. But I didn’t want to sound presumptuous.

I have the the cast basket version in a pair of Cornscalas and they stomp all over the K-33, round or square magnet, I have both. Substantially lower response, a few hertz goes a long way down low.

I’m in Canada and the cast baskets came up domestically, so that is what I snagged first (cheap, cheap).

Once again, my understanding is the steel baskets go lower AND have another plus going for them, but it escapes what is left of my memory right now.

Another member chimed in not too long ago about the differences between the two Crites offerings and sealed the deal for me if I were going new.

Thanks for the insight Geoff.  Then thats what i will get.   Searching for pricing right now.

That is a very comprehensive article (!).

Would love to get a definitive answer on this one too.

My money has always been on the square magnet version, simply because it goes lower, according to other topics I have read in here over the years.

I am looking to pick up a pair of woofers and looking at K33 with square magnet and or Crites 1526.  Not sure of the difference in the 1526 and the 1526C with the cast basket. Do they sound the same?

I'm glad I got the bug to do the original pair and the v2.0, which is my fave. It feels good to know one is right once in a while, and the number of happy Super Heresy Modders astounds me. It is still something unique and to be proud of. It was created in the spirit of this forum and all it's members. And the only ones as happy as I am about that are those who have done it. Like you!

BTW, the Heresy happens to be the most Phase Coherent Klipsch Heritage Speaker. I'm thinking this is why everyone loves the IMAGING on their Super Heresys with better Transient Response, which was my original goal, but I got better bass and definition. Basically named for the B&C DE-120 driver, which is my favorite. Thanks for sharing the Joy!

Thanks for helping with that project.

You are right about that! I'm sure you could buy a Cadillac for 10 grand too!

It Might have been more like $2,500 for Walnut style B. I paid $1,600 for my Raw Birch KC BR's NEW and no longer available that way. (I bought my brother's used Walnut ones and sold my Birch ones to a friend).

Either way, my fiancee co-signed for a $1,000 bank loan to buy those horns (mostly to establish credit, since, as a cash only guy at the time, I had none).

So my point is that all USA/Hope built products have MOSTLY been tracking inflation and, approximately, sell for that same price as before in terms of how many weeks someone has to work to get the money to buy them.

Yes and it seems everything is getting so out of reach as time goes.   I still have the used Heresy's ( 82"s) i bought in 1985. They are now my Super Heresy's.  I love them.

You are being too kind with that Understatement! But it appears that you're very close in your assessment. If Walnut Khorns were close to $3,000 in 1977, 45 years ago, what should they cost today? The CPI calculator show about $14,400 should be the price of Khorns right now with the same Walnut Oil or Lacquer Finish. Perhaps even 10-20% more for the higher effective cost of production and improvements (enclosed back, bigger, higher cost Network, connectors, etc.), and not just including the selling prices?

$3000 in 1977 was alot of money.  I know my dad bought a brand new 1975 Monte Carlo for about $5000.

after seeing this ad from a dealer about a little tiny speaker, probably not as good as the RP-600M at 1/8th the price!!! Yes I have a pair for my computer speakers.

A three-way, coaxial mid-tweeter passive speaker with a 7" woofer (from France): $4,400 plus tax!

In 1985 i bought a brand new pair of Heresy for $900 out the door and a new used pair for $500 out the door.   I like the old prices better.

7-8 watts output with about 5% THD

I personally have never heard one so I cannot comment from experience. But coming from experience with other typical 300b no feedback amplifiers is it really depends on the speaker. These types of amps are not great at driving tough loads and do not have great damping. Anyone interested in these types of amplifiers (from any company or builder) should audition them with their speakers in their rooms and see if they work well enough for you. Some speakers and genres of music they just completely fall flat on their face and vomit. Other types of speakers and genres of music they sing like angels. It's really a symbiotic relationship.

To me it actually sounds like you need to increase your power a little. I don't know your room size, speakers and listening habits but bass needs power and control. You may want to look for a clean and concise 20+ wpc amplifier to replace the one you have.

Yes, i agree.  I was interested in the Tool Shed amps awhile back from all the good said about them, but when i read the specs and seen the price tag i was a bit taken back.  This led me to purchasing the 12w/ch chinese amp which sounds great til you turn up the volume. The highs and mids get louder, but the bass falls quickly behind.  I have a pair of CornScala's and another 25w/ch Chinese amp that does very well in this combo with JJ KT77's making this a great combo.  I'm sure the TS amps are great little amps, but for me the watt to cost is too much for me.  I'm looking for something more powerful while retaining good clean output.  Primeluna and Ayon are way more powerful quality amps and just a few dollars more.   If i'm spending $5000 on a tube amp, i'm expecting a clean thumpin badass of an amp.

I almost spit my coffee out when I too saw the price, wow!!!

I will say it does take a lot of time making the chassis which is where I assume most of the money is going. They are very ornate and that just takes time when hand made like Matt does. They are a little too steampunk for my taste but they are an eye catcher for sure. If you have the cash and like the looks it's nice audio bling bling which is a big part of the audiophile condition.

They are cool looking amps for sure, but what is the max wattage with these, 12w?   I think for that price i would rather buy an Ayon spirit V with 75w/ch for a little more cash, but a lot more bass.    I haven't listened to either, so i have to ask, do the Toolshed amps reproduce nice hefty bass.  I have a 12w/ch Chinese amp and it sounds nice at low volume, but not much bass when you turn it up.

I've been looking around on the webs for a bit now came across a couple different options for very reasonable prices, the RSL-10 Speedwoofer for $399 and the Monoprice Monolith 10 for $649. The RSL is out of stock otherwise I probably would have ordered one as there's tons of great reviews all over including several on Youtube. I'm looking for a sub for myself as well at this point but need it to blend well for music as well that's why I'm leaning towards the RSL plus my space is 14x18 and I have very close neighbors.

    From an RSL review:

"The CEA-2010 output measurements are excellent for a subwoofer of this size and price. They’re almost the same as I measured from the SVS $699 SB-2000, which has a 12-inch driver and a 500-watt amp; the SB-2000 averages +0.6 dB more output between 40 and 63 Hz and -0.1 dB less output between 20 and 31.5 Hz."

    https://hometheaterreview.com/rsl-speedwoofer-10s-subwoofer-reviewed/

I like what i read about the RSL 10s subs.  Looks like i would definitely  need 2.   I like the Klipsch 115sw and i think i can get away using 1 of those.   Still looking.

I picked my subs 12 years ago, but back then SVS were really good. I opted to go another route because I got more bang for buck, but I nearly went with the SVS.

I ended up with 6 18 inch CHT (Chase Home Theater) subs (I know overkill). These subs are extraordinary performers, but ugly. I have 2 CHT.2 which are 2 18 inch subs in one box powered by a Dayton SA amp. I also have 2 separate (separate enclosures) 18 inch subs (CHT.1) that I would be willing to sell cheap. You will need to get a new Dayton amp, and WAF is low but these will shatter your windows and go lower then pretty much any other sub.

EDIT: The HSU are also very highly regarded. Over on AVS they had a bunch or head to head sub shoot outs, you might want to research them.

Ok, ill check out the HSU as well as the others mentioned this weekend when i have more time.  Thanks

Nice, so how does it sound?   Didn't know Dean was still building networks.

  12. Klipsch offers so many options in subwoofer.  Anyone here have a Klipsch sub or reviewed any in person?    I read some bad reviews on them.  Seems some are ok and some suck.  Not sure what size i need, but i have a 15x21 theater/listening room.  I need the sub for theater only.   Currently looking at the Synergy Black Label line.   Any feed back on any Klipsch subs welcomed.  Thanks

    Hi -

I'm considering getting a pair of Heresy's (all generations) for mixed HT and music usage.

I know people here generally love these speakers, but do these speakers do poorly? What is the downside?

In 1985 i bought a new pair of 85 Heresy's and a used pair of 84 Heresy's and using them for HT i had an Onkyo 50w/ch AVR and a Hitachi HIFI VCR.  While watching Pink Floyd The Wall it would really shake everything in the living room while watching at spirited levels.  There was no need for a sub in that HT system.  I was pleasantly surprised as with music they didn't seem to have much low bass.  I still have the 84's which are now Super Heresy and couldn't be happier with 2 channel stereo.

Both my tv and the AVR use ARC.  I guess either way would work fine.

I have decided on the Panasonic player as what i want.  UB820, but i see there is also a UB450 or 420. I will only be using this player for movies in a theater room using a AVR 7.1, so the audio needs to be top notch as well.  Think i'll start a new thread on this.    Thanks guys

Not according to my simulations. FYI,  I have returned my Cornwalls back to Original Klipsch Components (except for Cap refresh) to sell them at the highest price on Ebay.

BTW, what you have is NOT a Cornwall in the purist sense, and according to Roy Delgado.

I haven't ordered new woofers yet as i'm still playing with adjustments and really need the room closed off to get a good listen in the upper db range.  I did change the attenuation 1db(from 7db to 8db) and it seems a move in the right direction, it's hard to tell with only 1bd adjustment. I also tried some different preamp tubes i had laying around. The Electro Harmonics 12AX7 GOLD.  These little babies made i nice improvement in the sound stage opening it up a bunch and brought out strings and cymbals a bit more.   Over all, it's sound pretty badass, but i'm still looking for a bit more bass. I might make another adjustment on the mid attenuation and set it a 9db. This should bring out a bit more bass.  With the B&C 85TN mid driver spec at 107db and the Kappalite 3015LF at 96, that would give a 2db spread between woofer and mid.
