Very nice system.  You have three ways to get bigger/better sound, better amplification, run your subs (establish a better blend for 2 channel listening) or larger/better speakers.

 

When you think about receivers, the main reason people pick them is for the features, not the power and sound. Notice 90% are over 100 watts per channel and they are selling for $199.... It's cool to have a receiver that is so complex you don't use 1/3 of the features let alone need them.  I believe that is what you are paying for until you get very high end (all those licensing fees add up  in commodity items).  As for the drive and power, with many manufacturers the assumption is that power is handled by the subwoofer so you can probably skimp and still claim 100watts.  My opinion is that is why a lot of receivers will not spec 4 ohm speakers.  

 

If you are going to do a lot of music listening, start with the fundamentals, high quality front ends, great amplification, and above all good speakers.  Build based on the premise into your home theater.  

 

Emotiva has a 7 channel amplifier that is 4 ohm capable it provides 80 watts to all 7 channels ( 8 ohms) or 110 watts ( 8 ohms) while running 2 channels. Reasonably priced at $599.00. This may solve my amplification issue.

The responses from you have been great!  I wish I could have 2 completely separate systems (one for hifi and one for theater), but that is not feasible. I just watched "Rogue One" this evening and the sound was fantastic.  My system is absolutely killer for Movies and concerts. Stereo listening is a different story. I believe I've narrowed it down to id like more resolution, less fatigue (though it's relatively minor) without losing bass. I listen to 2 channel music often and I don't want to use my subs because I guess I'm really old school, Ive always listened to my hifi with 2 speakers. Its foreign to me to add a sub to stereo listening. 

Im sure a 2 pronged approach is required here: upgraded amplification and new speakers.

I like my 280's, I think they sound good. However, the type of guy I am, I want more. Are the RF7II's a worthy upgrade? What do you suppose the differences in sound will be?

 

im running a Marantz SR6010 receiver, an Oppo 103 universal disc player and a uturn audio turntable with Grado cartridge.

My speakers are bi-wired with audio quest wire with banana terminations. My room is a 20ft x 19ft loft with 10 ft flat ceilings.

Ive got a set of RP280's in a 7.2 home theater configuration. I have them placed with the proper distance between them but am having trouble figuring how far from the rear wall should they be. The owners manual doesn't mention anything about distance from the back wall. How would you suggest I tackle this issue?

Hi guys i have a problem... a friend of mine is saying that his velodyne 10 inches sounds better and more than the klipsch r-115sw that bought 3 weeks ago... i think he is missing something or wrong settings... please let me know the best setting for the R-115sw

In addition to my SW-115, I have a Velodyne SPL-100R. I use the set up mic for the velodyne so it can perform its automatic setup. I then use my receivers Audessy auto setup to balance both subs. I followed the advice of the members on this forum and set all my speakers to "small". The bass is awesome! I need to batten down the hatches while watching movies

[Red book cd's Via Oppo 103 or Dedicated cd Player?]

I have an Oppo 103 universal player connected to a Marantz 6010 receiver via hdmi. My speakers for left and right mains are Klipsch RP-280's. When listening to music, I mostly use cd's (store bought, not burned or MP3). My question is, should I purchase a dedicated CD player and connect to the receiver using decent rca's cords or should I continue with the 103 via hdmi?

I am considering the Marantz 6006, the emotiva Eric-3 or the Nad 516bee. I will connect using decent but not esoteric rca cords.

I have RP-280's right and left, the 450 center, the 115sw subwoofer, a velodyne spl-100r sub and mordaunt-short Carnival 3 di-poles for surrounds and rears. I have a Marantz Sr.-6010 receiver.

I utilized the Audessy set-up system to try and dial in the system. When I review the settings, there are a lot of odd figures. Center set as "Large" Distances are not accurate, etc. I am underwhelmed by the bass whether I use the 115 by itself or use both at the same time. If I switch the receiver bass setting from "lfe" to "lfe+main" the bass is much better. This seems odd to me. I'm tempted to perform my own measurements and input them, set all speakers to small, x-over at 80 hz for the mains and center and 120 he for the surrounds and rears. What do you guys think I should do?

[Theater Room Acoustic Treatments.]

Does anyone have experience with acoustic room treatments? The room is very hard. The only sound absorption is a carpeted floor, leather theater seating and a few large decorative pillows about the room. My theater area is a 20'x19.5' loft. The right side is open with a railing. There are 4 large windows. 1 window behind the right and left floorstanders. Left wall has the other 2 windows. I am replacing the faux wood blinds with cloth cellular window coverings today. I believe they will help a lot. What else can I do to calm the room down? How do you figure out where to place additional treatments?

I have RP-280f mains. 450 center and the 115 sub. I have mordant short carnival 3's for surrounds and rears.

[RP-280F Spikes]

I purchased a set of RP-280's from Frys electronics last Thursday. One of the speakers was missing the spikes. I called Frys, no help. I called Klipsch but can't get through because the recording says "in a department meeting". All I want is a set of spikes. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this taken care of?
